Review:
This is the sequel to Patriots of Treason in the Patriots Series. It picks up where book one ended and continues the political struggles, including the Federal corruption and brutality, that are the basis for Texas considering seceding from the United States.

The story moves along well and includes good action which keeps it entertaining. There are several key characters, good guys and villains, who are life-like personalities. Particularly the legendary Texas Ranger, Pops Younger, is a strong character who encompasses the “don’t mess with Texas” attitude.

The plotline made me ponder how I would feel about any state taking sides against the Union that we love. The author incorporates some timely political issues. Of course, in this book the corruption, including lies, cover-ups and murder, was truly extreme, providing a basis for the actions of the Texas leadership. The cost of rebellion is great but to capitulate might result in loss of freedoms that are intended as part of the American way. I enjoyed this entertaining story of a state at odds with a corrupt Federal government. I recommend this series to readers who like alternate history, action stories.

Audio Notes: Charles Craig does a good job with the narration. His voice took a bit to get used to but pretty soon it seemed to fit the nature of the story. I found this to be good listening!

This was an Audible selection from 2017. It qualified for my 2017 Audiobook Challenge.

I have relaxed some this week - as much as a grandmother can with twin 16 month old grandchildren and a 5 year old granddaughter.
We have huddled inside a lot since the weather is running from 5° to 14° and we are surely not used to the cold!

December 31, 2017 - I finished for 2017 and am ready to start a new year of reading in the One Year Bible. I have been reading along with my husband and others from our church. I hope to take more time this year, staying on the day and listening to the companion commentary online.


I completed 4 books and posted only 4 reviews (plus some children book reviews at Goodreads). I still have 10 reviews to finish for the end of this year.  Maybe I'll have some time this week to double up reviews. 
I am a little more up-to-date linking my reviews at Goodreads, Amazon and Audible.
My NetGalley shelf is at 20 with six older 2017 and 14 picked up the past month. I still have one committed author title in queue and many through InstaFreebie.

Sunday Words of Encouragement December 31, 2017

We braved the 7° weather this morning to attend Church locally with our son’s family.
The worship songs were good and we enjoyed sharing in communion to anticipate the New Year.

The Pastor shared a message on Abundant Generosity: being selfless (Galatians 2:20), not tight handed (2 Corinthians 8:2-3), believing in God’s blessings (Matthew 21:22) and believing that He provides more than enough (Ephesians 3:20-21). We should also be thanking God even before we receive the blessings. Mark 11:24.

Sharing Beyond Books #334 Comment Giveaway December 30, 2017

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB!
I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful time of holiday. We are having a great visit with family but hubby and I (and our dogs) are cold in these under 10° temps.

MaryP asks: Have you ever cooked something using a recipe included in a novel??
Since I don't cook my answer is easy "no". I do occasionally give recipes to my husband to try but I can't think of one he has made. I will say that he finds recipes on facebook and tries them. This week he surprised me by having our daughter-in-law make gooey cookies. I LOVE gooey and they were delicious!

The First Main Word Needs To Be The Letter You Are Counting

Except For those pesky Q, X AND Z titles the word that starts with the challenge letter can be ANYWHERE in the title. [Emphasis Added.]
I have always tried to have the beginning letter as the second word after an article like "The" or "A". Having it anywhere in the title could actually make it easier except I think I had already lined up titles for this challenge!

Last year I tried to do four titles for each letter and came pretty close. I did get at least One each.
This year I worked on TWO for each letter: an Audiobook and a TBR, preferably NetGalley. If I didn't have a NetGalley title there is a third book as a PrintTBR or eBookTBR or an Tour or Author book if not TBR.

I completed a total of 65 books as part of the challenge. All but 16 were TBR and there were four print TBRs.

When all completed, I got an Audiobook for all letters (the requirement for the original challenge) but I did not get a second book for Q and U. I plan to try harder to get at least two each letter in 2018.
