I had another busy week and a surprise when I got home Friday night as our son came to visit for Mother's Day. He was a big help around the house today.
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Thirteen commenters do follow campaigns but a few follow coverage rather than debates. Six people do not follow politics and that includes a few whose foreign politics and elections are very different.

The Winner from SBB #250 comments is: #8 Rita who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated ARC/Review titles or (not yet updated) Love titles - all linked near the end of the post. [I'm hoping to update the book choices - maybe the beginning of next year, lol.] Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.
WEEK #251
(One Question.)
miki asks: What do you think of authors who ask for specific review (for example to post only review with 3,5/5 minimum)? Would you want to review her/ his book again??I have never had an author tell me only to post if above a certain rating. I do not think I would agree to review first or again.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! The supply of questions is dwindling so share some if you think of any -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.
Your turn to share:

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Valentine and "Love" books or the February 2015 Newly Updated ARC/Review List. (My daughter pulled several of the Christmas titles to give with gift bags we made up for the nursing homes. One of these days I will get together a new box of Christmas titles.)
SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on the question above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday May 14, 2016 at 5 PM central.
The only time I've heard of something like that is during a review tour. I HATED the book, told the tour host right away for an alternative and posted the review after it ended, all without problems.
ReplyDeleteBut an author coming at you directly with that request? Absolutely not. I post all reviews, no matter the rating. It feels right and fair. That'd be a giant red flag for me.

Congrats to the winner. I've never had an Author specify a particular rating but if I did I wouldn't care to review for them again.

No, I would expect to write an honest review. To give the rating I think the book deserves from me.
ReplyDeleteit only happened twice to me and i refused to abide by that kind of rules but i also felt very small as it was like i was the only one not happy with that
ReplyDeletedon't review, but they shouldn't do that
ReplyDeleteI've not had that request by any authors that I review books for.
ReplyDeleteI don't review ARCs and I don't accept books in exchange for a review, and I wouldn't want to read an author who makes such demands. Not acceptable!
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha.
ReplyDeleteThis has never happened to me.
Happy Mother's Day to all!
If an author asks for reviews, I don't think it's right to limit the reviewer to only post 3.5 reviews. It's not fair to let to the people reading the review not to get an honest review.
ReplyDeleteI have also never had an author tell me that there had to be a star minimum for posting, though one of my former co-bloggers did have a situation where she told the author that she'd be posting a negative review and they asked her to just not post it on the blog, which I thought was fair.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's appropriate for an author to ask for a certain rating for a review. I would not comply with such a request.
ReplyDeleteI do not think an author should do that and I would not agree to it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Rita. I don't feel it is appropriate for an author to do that.
ReplyDeleteI've never had an author say that; they are all open on honest reviews
ReplyDeleteI've worked with tour companies that do not want the hosts to post reviews that are under 3 stars on the tour post, though they don't ask you not to post it at all, just not in conjunction with the tour post, which I understand. I've never had an author ask though.
ReplyDeletei've never had an author say that. i usually give them my honest reviews.
ReplyDeleteIf my response to a book is low I usually don't post the star value, just mention the concerns I had with the book. That way it doesn't affect the review avg but lets the review reader know and they make their own decision whether or not to be affected in reading choice.
ReplyDeleteand I do refuse to continue reading any book I find offensive which publishers are fine with.
ps- Martha, I love your mother's day quote at top left !
