Sharing Beyond Books #97 Comment Giveaway April 27, 2013

Hello; Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

Hi Friends. Happy Saturday night! Is Spring finally getting to most of you? Except for those on the other side who are starting to get Autumn.
I have had an oddly busy week. Family visited for nice, but tiring dinner tonight so we could have official BD cake for the 2 year old.
Thank you to all who shared last week.

We had a good response last week and 22 out of 33 people will, at least sometimes, look up events mentioned in books. Eleven do not look up events although several of you qualified that with expecting the author to sufficiently explain the event and LindaK acknowledged that she would look up unusual words.

It sounds like many of us did learn some instrument as a child but we did not keep it up. The most played instrument is the piano with 11 people having had lessons at some point. The other instruments include guitar, flute, cello, synthesizer, flutophone, djembe (I had to look it up), clarinet, trumpet, french horn and school age recorder. And we actually have a classically trained pianist and singer in our midst - very impressive, Meghan! I almost forgot to mention that Lisa said what my DH always says - all they can play is the radio. :-)

The Winner from SBB #96 comments is: #21 Meghan who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #97 Questions

Q1. Faith, Hope and Cherry Tea asks:  What is your favorite Genre? Who is your favorite author in the Genre and do you have a favorite book in the Genre??
A: This is very hard to answer as I enjoy reading a variety. I think my favorite genre has shifted over the past year or so. I used to always say that Historical Romance was my favorite but as they have gotten more sexually explicit I have enjoyed them a bit less than I used to.
I really enjoy action, fantasy and space adventure. Romance is good too if there is a strong story that is the focus over the sexual interaction.
I am unable to pick one author or one favorite book -- there are just too many and it changes as I read. :-)

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: Is your inbox in or out of control??
A: I am afraid that my inbox is definitely out of control. I do have my work inbox down to under 100 -- with just a few there reminding me to handle something.  But my blog email is in the thousands and just keeps growing. Plus I am now getting about 10 anonymous comments a day - ugh.
I think I need to take a whole day to clear out emails!

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions. I do have a group of questions from the same submitters so if you have a question don't be afraid to ask!
Those who contributed Qs in April were: Abby, Mary P, Miki andFHCT. The winner of a free book/GC for April is FHCT.

Your turn to share:

  1. 1. That's a tough question indeed but I guess my ultimate love goes to Speculative Fiction, more precisely the science fiction genre. My favorite author in the genre is Dean Koontz and my favorite book by him "Odd Thomas".

    2. Amazingly it's under control right now! There was a time last year when it was real bad and I sat literally for hours to sort through, delete and archive e-mails, but I learned my lesson. While my inbox is never completely "tidy" it's definitely in a state that doesn't make me panic which is good enough for me.

  2. 1. I too cannot pick a favorite genre! I think what I need in most of the books I'm reading is romance. I'm a sucker for happy endings so I'll read any book with one. I like to mix up my reading with equal YA and adult titles so I don't get bored :) I have a ton of favorite authors but if I had to pick one it would be Gena Showalter.

    2. My inbox is in control. For now. :)

  5. 1. It's actually hard to choose now days. I probably read an equal amount of Historical Romance, Historical Fiction, Paranormal. and Scottish Romance. I have too many favorite books and Authors. But if I had to mane a book off the top of my head it wold be Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Love the series.

    2. Thank the Lord it's in order now. I spent hours last week cleaning it out and sorting.

    Congrats to the winner.

  7. 1:Probably fantasy, and when I don't feel like reading fantasy, mystery. I also enjoy the classics a lot, but I'm not sure if this counts as a genre. I don't think I have a favorite book...

2: I don't get very many emails, so it isn't to hard to keep it under control. :)

  8. 1. I love anything and everything Historical - well almost everything I guess. I don't have a particular book or author as a favourite. Just too many choices.

    2. I have been away from my computer for a week while I was at my parents. It was AAAAH when I got back, but it is all sorted now. I usually have it fairly well under control.

  9. 1) Fantasy is my favorite with Jill Williamson topping that list. I don't really have a favorite book, it is a bit hard to decide.

2)Mine it under control. I check it everyday, but if I didn't, *shudder*, I can hardly imagine.

  10. 1. My favorite genre is mystery. I also like western romances. My fave author is James Patterson and I like Linda Lael Smith on the western side. No fave book although I do really enjoy the Alex Cross series by Patterson.

    2. I have 1 email that gets out of control quickly if I don't watch it like after vacations. Otherwise they're manageable right now.

  11. 1. Historical fiction without explicit sex. But that is only by an edge. I also love subtle inspirational fiction, amish fiction, thrillers without a lot of of blood, cozy mysteries and memoirs. I also can't choose. It would be fair to the other books that I love.

    2. Retired so I no longer have an in box for work. At home, I have about 300 e-mails a day. By the end of the day, I am ususally down to three to five. I just delete the ones that are advertizing and of course spam. Every once in a while, I unsubscribe to some blogs as my reading interets changes. But not this one, it is a keeper!

  12. I like both historical romance & fantasy romance. I have too many that I like to name one fav.

Out of control. I've lots of problems archiving mail timely as well as somewhere I can find it later - when I need it.

Q2. My inbox was under control...then I was sick for a few days last week and couldn't even get on the computer...I've tried to reign it in but I'm still over 1,000!

  17. 1. I would have to say my favorite genre is Fantasy. I absolutely loved Kim Harrison's The Hollows series. It is still one of my favorites! I also enjoyed Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and Patricia Briggs series, as well as Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. I cannot pick one favorite author or book from either!

    2. In my opinion my email is out of control! Haha. I'm not used to receiving this many emails. I recently started following blogs and have them send emails so I can keep track. I only receive about 20-30 a day, but I'm used to only 5-10. It's nothing compared to the hundred you receive!

  18. My favorite genre is thrillers...medical and legal. Anything that gets the pulse rate up and keeps me turning pages. James Patterson's books always keep me going, even though they aren't medical or legal they are thrillers.

The only time my inbox gets out of line is when I have a medical problem which I have had too many times recently. It takes a while to catch up again. Right now my inbox is just fine.

  20. 1. I like historical and contemporary romance. I also love Time Travel. There are so many great authors I can't pick just one.

  21. 1. I've got to have romance in my books, but beyond that I like variety.
    2. My Inbox is totally out of control - I am going to be working on going thru it and will have to unsubscribe to some things that either I am no longer interested in or just send too many emails - Martha's Bookshelf will stay on my subscribe list!

  23. I love many genres, but I read mostly Fantasy & Scifi. It's too hard to name a single favorite author. Frank Herbert, Guy Gavriel Kay, Brandon Sanderson, Elizabeth Bear, and so many others.

My inbox gets out of control during the work week, and back under control on the weekends. I guess my inbox is tidal.

  24. My fav genre is either sci-fi or high fantasy. There are too many great authors to narrow it down to just one.

My email always seem just below the out-of-control line, although I really need to go through my review request folder. That is definitely out of control.

  25. 1. I love romance and all it's sub-genres. I used to just read paranormal romance but then I read my first contemporary romance and loved it too then I just kept going. As long as there is a touch of romance in the book I will usually like it and don't really have a favorite. It really depends on my mood as to whether what genre I will read and I have way to many favorite authors & books to pick just one.

    2. My inbox is pretty good control. I delete what I don't need right away and use sub-folders to help keep things in control.
