Sharing Beyond Books #106 Comment Giveaway June 29, 2013

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

It's been a hot week here when it hasn't been raining.

Thank you to all who shared last week.

Our collective book reading is from 185 to 220 per month! Some as little as 1 and some as many as 22!

What fun to be reminded of so many childhood games: many board games like Monopoly (apparently a favorite), Scrabble, Life, Parcheesi and more; card games including Old Maids, Uno, Go Fish; and other games like Yahtzee. Not to mention the outside games like hopscotch, jump rope and tag. And early computer games like PacMan and Super Mario!

The Winner from SBB #105 comments is: #24 Nikki who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #106 Questions

Q1. Emily asks: How likely are you to go out of your comfort zone when choosing a book to read? Will you give it a chance, or no way Jose???
A: I try to stretch myself now and again. Usually I will press on to finish the book. However, as I have just experienced this week, I became really uncomfortable after beginning a book and feel that I am not going to enjoy it. So I decided to give it a pass since there are so many other books waiting to be read. :-).

Here is a book challenge if you want to step out...

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: Do you have a favorite pillow??
A: When I was young I loved my foam rubber, medium hard, pillow. I was in a rear-end car accident in my late 20s which caused some neck discomfort. As I have gotten older my neck has been a bit stiff. I now use a travel type neck pillow which I do take with me when I travel. I also use a small foam pillow under my knees which has helped reduce pain there.

My DH happens to still love a feather pillow. The kids bought him a new one to replace the old after it got yucky.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions. I do have a group of questions from the same submitters so if you have a question don't be afraid to ask!
JUNE QUESTIONS were contributed by Birgit, miki, nrlymrtl, Becky and Emily. Random.org winner for a book pick is BECKY!

  1. 1) It depends on why it is out of my comfort zone. Because it is just not my usual, sure. But if it is something that disgusts me, then no.

2)I always have to have two pillows, so I tend to not be picky about which ones.

  5. Q1: I am always reading things that are out of my comfort zone, but if it is something that I can't get into I don't finish reading it.
Q2: I have two pillows that I use all of the time, but I'm not picky about what type of pillows that I use. I also have a big square pillow that I will use if I am lounging around on the floor or the sofa.

  6. I'm a pretty eclectic reader, so as I get older, and hence, have more reading experience, fewer genres/subgenres are out of my comfort zones. I guess I could say that political of books with a strong religious bent are outside my comfort zone and I rarely read anything along those lines.

My favorite pillow is whatever one the kitties have not coughed up a hairball on to - at least during hairball season. Furry little bastards.

  7. 1. I will try any book, although to go out of my comfort-zone, I have to have a reason - like reviewing it or a friend recommended it.
    2. No - I need new ones.

  8. 1. No, I stick with my fav genres. Too many books to read without adding a book that I may not enjoy.
    2. No.

  9. 1. I like to read YA if the story sounds good but it is difficult for me to read horror, science fiction and pure romance.

    2. I sleep on a buckwheat pillow and also use a "knee pillow" between my knees. Can't use feather pillow because I am allergic. Would really love to find a "good" travel pillow. I have tried many, but haven't found one that helps.

  10. 1. I will try something new but if I'm not enjoying it I stop reading. I won't waste my time reading something I don't like.

    2. No

  11. 1 - my primary requirement is romance with an HEA - beyond that I'm open to try things. Two paranormal genres I haven't gone to yet are Angels and Zombies, but if I got one that people rave about I'd try them.

2 - I like 2 pillows so that I can flip them to get a cool side. Therefore, they can't be too thick. I'm open to finding some new pillows, but it's hard to tell if they are right until you use them for a while, and if they're not, they can't be returned.

  12. Q1. I do read out of my comfort zone occasionally. If it sounds good, I will give it a chance. :)

Q2. I don't have a favorite pillow. Though right now, I'm using a cooling gel pillow since it's warm outside. :)

  13. 1. My daughter drags me out of my comfort zone. She will read a book & then strongly recommend it to me. I have found that it's good to branch out every once in a while.

    2. I don't know what type of pillow I have on my bed right now, but it's super comfortable. Just the right height & firmness/softness. Even Goldilocks would find nothing to complain about.

  14. I have started many books out of my comfort zone but if I don't like them I don't finish them. Like you said, I have so many good books that I want to read so I go on to them.

My favorite pillow is a very inexpensive one. When it starts going flat, I just buy another one!

  16. 1. I am very likely to go out of my comfort zone where books are concerned but I do like a good romance in all of my books.

    2. I do have a favorite pillow :)

  17. My reading is pretty eclectic, so I'm not concerned about comfort zones, more what I'm in the mood for.

I don't really have favourite pillows, although my husband and I do have our own, and look out if he takes mine. I make sure to put separate coloured pillow cases on his and mine so he can tell them apart.

  18. 1. No I won't read anything that doesn't interest me or outside my normal genre. My reading time is limited to begin with and I won't waste it on something I know is iffy that I'd enjoy.

    2. No favorite pillow - I'd love a big fluffy pillow for the bed to read with

  19. Q1. Well, before last year I'd never read a dystopian book. And now I'm addicted to them so to a certain extent, YOU BET I WOULD! BUT, I won't read horror no matter what. I don't even watch it. And watching it a lot shorter than reading. So no way. There are TOO many other wonderful books to read to waste time on those I know I'll dislike.

Q2. YES! Totally. Might sound disgusting but I haven't thrown away a lot of pillows. I have some that were handmade by my grandma when I was a baby. Granted, I am not actually that old, so it has not been THAT long. Or so I'd like to think.

    Cheers!! And good pillow.

  20. 1. I occasionally will read something out of my normal but most of the time I stick with what I love which is romance.

    2. I have a set of pillows that I love but I am not overly picky.

  21. I tend to stick with what I love but if a book is getting a lot of hype and it's out of my normal range, curiosity usually get's the better of me and I break down and read it. I tend to power through books, even if I don't like them. For some reason I can't leave a book unfinished and I hate that sometimes, even when I really want to walk away from it

I love my body pillow and can't sleep without it

  22. 1. I usually stick to what I like, but sometime I will try something different.

    2. I have one comfy cool gel one that I like alot.
