Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Six people watch games shows sometimes; two only watch sport shows; two like shows with a storyline; one watches documentaries and one watches only dvds. That leaves another five who don't watch much TV and one who doesn't have a TV!
The Winner from SBB #348 comments is: #17 Becky who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) ARC/Review titles or (recently updated) Love and Christmas titles - all linked near the end of the post.
**NOTE: I did post an Updated ARC and Other books for Giveaways. I have to go back and list the titles -- someday.
Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.
WEEK #349
(One Question.)
St. James asks: How many pages of a book do you read before deciding it's a dnf [did not finish]??
We have had this question before but back in 2013. Let's see if our answers have changed.
My answer hasn't changed. I rarely DNF. If I selected or accepted a book for review I plan to push through to the end. I can only think of one DNF over the past several years. It is a popular book and I was listening on audio. I stopped about two hours in as I found it boring and depressing. Perhaps I'll try again sometime.
(Maybe someone should ask - for another SBB- what popular book we DNF.)

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! The supply of questions is dwindling so share some if you think of any -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify.
Marjorie and St. James get 1/2 book credit or $2.50 for the month of July.
Your turn to share. St. James asks: How many pages of a book do you read before deciding it's a dnf [did not finish]??
SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Updated ARC and Other books, including the "Love" and Christmas titles all in one post.
SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on the question above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday August 11, 2018 at 5 PM central.
I try to finish however hard (it is very hard at times when you know you have countless good books in the offing!). I feel I owe it to the publisher who sends me the book to finish.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem DNF-ing a book. I'll probably read at least 20% before giving up.
ReplyDeleteI will give a book about 50 pages, but I can usually tell after much less than that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha!
ReplyDeleteI usually finish reading whatever I start. But if I still find it boring after getting to the 4th chapter I will but it down for later and start something else.
It's more a case of how bad the book is. Some which I couldn't stand the characters, I stopped pretty early on; within the 1st few chapters.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Becky!
ReplyDeleteSt James this is a really good Q. I usually read about 10% of the book, other times, when I really want to love it, I force myself to read about half, that's the maximum limit.
i always try to finish a book so i have no rule about when i give up it happened only once quite a long time ago so i guess we can still say i do not dnf
ReplyDeleteI always finish the book, no matter what. You may think it's terrible, but I have had a couple of books that didn't make sense till the whole thing was read. I say, give each book a chance to the end. Even a bad book is good reading.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Becky!
a couple
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winners!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you Martha, if it's a review book, will push through. I have DNFed some books. 1 is a very popular one but was sooo boring, I think I gave it one chapter if not less. Another was something that sounded nice based on the summary but totally ahead of my age (at that time) for me, so I skipped the difficult parts. So it's kind of a DNF?
I think I've only come across one book I DNF. The heroine was so clingy, needy & depressed I had to stop reading after half the first chapter. Congrats to Becky.

Congrats Becky!
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not into it by the 1st chapter I stop and put it in my donate to the library pile. There are so many fabulous books out there I don't want to waste my time on something I'm not enjoying.
Congrats winners. Thanks for the win.
ReplyDeleteI usually read 3-4 chapters, if it is not interesting off I go to another book.
Around 100 pages or so...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rita Wray - too many great books need my time for reading to waste time on a lesser read...
ReplyDeleteA good youtube video has a young woman sharing how she's read 1000 books - by cutting out those that don't grab and keep her attention right off the top! Thought that a great summation for dnfing. Just because it's been written doesn't qualify it for being read ;)
Thanks, Martha, for sharing the question with us !
