Sunday Post April 8, 2018/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday April 9, 2018

I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading now at The Book Date.

What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

We still had some staff members not fully healthy this week. I got some work done each day but still have more. I had to spend time preparing for two upcoming trials.
We are having rain with fluctuating weather. We have a new hen house with a baker's dozen of chicks which we are enjoying watching.

My listening was good if slower this week. I finished 1 ebook and 1 Audio title. I posted three reviews and my usual memes.

I only visited 25 blogs last week. I want to do better.
Shout Out this week for My Lovely Secret, a book blog with a cute new background (I love the kitties on the 4/1 recap).
Thank you to all the nice people who visit me.

These were last week's posts:
  • ATBR- Audible Book Review: Fledgling by Nicole Conway; Dragons, Fantasy Adventure; my rating 4.25.
  • NGTBR-#NetGalley Book Review: The Edge of Memory by Maura Beth Brennan; Drama, Psychological Thriller, Suspense; my rating 4.0.
  • eB2018- Audible Book Review: Book Review: Blackstone by Richard Falkirk; British Detectives, Historical, Mystery; my rating 4.25.

Mind Game: A Novel (Eve Duncan)
by Iris Johansen
I haven't read this author (nor series) in a few years.
The beginning reminds me why I enjoyed her writing.
Source: NetGalley 2017.
Mind Game takes Jane MacGuire back to Scotland where she continues her search for the treasure she’s been chasing for years. But now she’s being plagued by dreams of a girl in danger. Who is this girl, and what is she trying to tell Jane? And will Jane figure it out before it’s too late—for her and the mysterious young woman? Things are further complicated when Seth Caleb comes back into Jane’s life. This time he’s the one in trouble, and Jane will find herself pulled unexpectedly into his world as she fights to save him.
With the adventure, intrigue, and explosive energy that Iris Johansen fans love, Mind Game is a high-octane thriller that readers won’t be able to put down.

4. Audible/Smartphone (2018)

I'll be listening to this for conference next week.

Publisher's Summary
We live our lives word by word - to build our relationships, to convey our points of view, to object to wrongs done to us or to others, to comfort our children and our friends. We also use the wrong words - sometimes unknowingly - and get ourselves into situations we'd rather not be in.
As Stephen R. Covey points out in his introduction: "Words sell and words repel; Words lead and words impede; Words heal and words kill."
Kevin Hall discovered the deeper power inherent in words after a fateful encounter with a wise shopkeeper in Vienna. When that led to an introduction to an esteemed etymologist residing in a senior home, Hall embarked on a project that changed his life, and has since changed the lives of thousands. Discover the eleven words - as well as the secret word - that when used correctly, can light your path to the lifelong success you deserve.

April 8, 2018 - I continue on track with my morning reading the One Year Bible plan on my new smartphone. It is a great way to start my day. You can check out the audio on the companion commentary online.

I completed 2 books and posted 3 reviews on the blog. That moves me to 3 current reviews.
I linked some titles during the week at Goodreads, Amazon and Audible.

My NetGalley shelf is at 14 and I still have one committed author title in queue and many through InstaFreebie. I have more new author requests but still haven't replied.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Leslie of Under My Apple Tree, Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
I received one review title.
I picked up two Audible daily deal titles but no Kindle deals this week.
However, as usual, I picked up lots more free kindle titles as usual. (Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.)
Are your mailbox and TBR piles blooming?

  1. Although she's quite popular, I don't think I've ever read anything by Iris Johansen. Enjoy your new books!

  2. I am curious about Mind Game. Enjoy your reading and your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  3. It seems this flu season is never ending. I hope your office is healthy soon. I used to read all of Iris Johansen's books but haven't read one in a while.

  4. The Mysterious Howling does look like a fun one. I may have to try it. Enjoy your latest hauls.

  5. Aspire sounds interesting. Enjoy all your books!

  6. I bet the baby chicks on fun. I hope everyone is healthy at work this week. It is hard when your work loads doubles.

  7. Cute on the baby chicks. :)

I hope everyone is better soon.

ENJOY your books and reading week.

  8. I am pleased that you are enjoying the J.D. Robb story. I know that yours is an audible version, which I don't particularly enjoy. However hers is not a style of writing I could read too much of at one time, so I have dipped in and out of this series, but have enjoyed it overall.

I quite liked the sound of 'Mind Game', but only until I realised that this is book #22 in the series and according to many readers, there are some threads which recur throughout, which I should imagine would make them quite difficult to read as stand alone stories. Also, ratings and reviews seem to be very mixed, on an either 'love or hate it' basis, with very little middle ground.

I hope that you enjoy all your reads and that work life returns to more of an even keel, very soon. Who knows, we may even get some spring like weather one day :)

  9. I hope you enjoy all of these books

  10. Aw on the chicks! How fun :) Hope you have a good week (and everyone finally gets to feeling better!)
