Sharing Beyond Books #107 Comment Giveaway July 6, 2013

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

This has been a very rainy week; hot and muggy.  Ah well - good for working in AC or reading!

Thank you to all who shared last week.

We have a pretty brave group as at least half do read out of comfort zone, another handful will try occasionally and only about four don't venture too far outside their favorite genres. It's nice that Mary P lets her daughter encourage her outside of her comfort zone.

I was surprised that almost half of us do not have a favorite pillow. Guess we are either adamant or ambivalent about it. :-) However, if we do have our own - we don't want to swap, even with hubby. Right, Sarah?

The Winner from SBB #106 comments is: #22 Jolene who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #107 Questions

Since we (most of us anyway) are in summer vacation season...
Q1. Elizabeth asks: Do you have favorite books to read on vacation??
A: I can't think that I have any favorite books for vacation. I just take the next ones ready to read! However, with my Kindle and MP3 so handy for travel I am less likely to take along a print book.

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: Do you take vacations on spur of the moment or planned months ahead??
A: I guess we do both. The trip to Hawaii had to been planned months in advance. But we seem to do more spur of the moment trips -- especially when DH finds a good deal on a cruise.  We have been talking about taking the motor coach for a couple of weeks but we are DH is still working on getting it in mechanical shape again. We will be doing a test run soon for our grandson's division ball games. :-)

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions. I do have a group of questions from the same submitters so if you have a question don't be afraid to ask!

Your turn to share:

  1. For vacation, I take a handful of books - usually one long one and then 2-4 that are light and can be left behind if need be.

We plan ahead for vacations. Being on a small farm, we must make arrangements for a farm sitter.

  2. Q1: I don't really have any favorite books to read while on vacation. I normally just take what ever I have sitting there in my to be read pile.
Q2: I don't normally take vacations on spur of the moment. Since I live on a set budget I need to plan for the vacation.

  3. 1. Big confession here - I usually don't read while on vacation as there's just too much to see and do that I never really find time to read anything. Thus, no fav vacation reads!

    2. I'm a planner. I mean, I don't make reservations a year in advance (which some people apparently do), but depending on where I plan to go I do book tickets, say, 2-3 months before leaving mostly so that I get a good price on plane tickets.

  4. I read the same types of books regardless of where or when.

We plan since most of our vacations involves visiting family on the other side of the country. It's hard to do that spur of the moment.

  5. I usually take several books with me to last the whole trip. Can't be without a book to read! I just take what's in the TBR list.

    Mine are usually planned ahead.

  6. 1°no specific book but i would probably not have a lotof time to read anyway with all there is to do and see

2° i guess i'm a planner thought not month in advance so it's organised at least but that being said it has been years since i went on vacation so perhaps it would change...i'm in need of one ( doctor order) but it stress me tooo much at teh moment to think about it so i rest at home and i read

  7. 1. I take a whole pile of books on vacation. No specific genre, just whatever comes to hand really.

    2. I'm a big planner in general, so holidays are always planned ahead of time.

  8. 1. It has been a long time since we could afford to go on vacation but when I did, I took books that had larger print and also a variety of genres.

    2. Plan, had to cancel the last one. Sigh!

  9. 1. I just take whatever book I am currently reading on vacation, but I am lately finding that ebooks are great for vacation as a reader takes up less space than one book but can contain a whole library.
    2. Definitely plan going on vacation months ahead of time, but we leave some of the activity planning for when we get there.

  10. 1: I read the same types of books, but I usually bring my Kindle so I have less to carry.

1: We definitely plan our vacations ahead of time.

  11. 1. I typically read my fave authors on vacation. I bring my Nook and read them on that.

    2. I do both. For longer vacations I like to research and plan excursions and day trips but have also booked cruises on the spur if I can find cheap airfare.

  12. 1. It depends on where I am going on vacation. Sometimes I don't have time to read.

    2. I plan my vacation.

  13. 1 - I read anthologies or non-series books on vacation so I can hand them off to my sister-in-law

2 - Planner - tho it may not be months in advance, it's at least weeks

  14. I don't usually get a chance to read while on vacation. Since it's usually visiting family and grandkids it means catching up. :)

I have to plan since I live on a fixed income.

  15. 1. I don't have any favourite for vacation reads.

    2. With us it's both: recently in April we made a week long trip on spur of the moment but we have also made several pre-planned trips. :)

  16. 1. I always bring several books to read for the beach/pool, as well as the plane for vacations...usually funny books.

    2. I try to plan in advance. :)

  17. I follow via Blog Lovin' (Julie @ Knitting and Sundries)

    My answers:

    1. Like you, I tend to take whatever's next on my reading pile - BUT I do kind of skip over the "heavy" books and go for the lighter reads that don't require as much concentration
    2. Like you as well, I do both. Sometimes it will be a spur-of-the moment (as in a day or two or three before) road trip. But for longer vacays, I do a lot of research and planning ahead of time.

  18. I just take along a couple from my TBR pile.

  20. Q1. No faves. Always something new. And I try to bring thinner books if it makes sense, especially for those really packed, or heavy trips.

Q2. Mostly planned. Unless it's for weddings or relatives want to meet up then pretty spur of the moment. So it depends really.

  21. 1. Well I am not sure since I haven't been on a vacation in 7 years or so but I don't think I would pick any specific books just my kinde to download whatever was next up on my list.

    2. Well we are about to take our first vacation in 7 years and it has been planned for several months.
