Sharing Beyond Books #417 Comment Giveaway March 20, 2021

Hello again, Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books. AND HAPPY SPRING!

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Last Q#416 Alina asked: Are you a superhero movie fan? If yes, MCU or DCEU??
Six commenters are not real fans, with one being unfamiliar with the superhero worlds. Three like either, with one leaning toward DC and another favoring Marvel. Two others chose MC/Marvel.

The Winner from SBB #416 comments is #6 Marjorie who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) ARC/Review titles or (recently updated) Love and Christmas titles - all linked near the end of the post. -- [11/16/19 I plan to add some review books this week and maybe some new Christmas and Love titles as soon as I locate the box I put them in. 11/28/20 I have added a box of new books for SBB and will list them in the next week or so. I have to try to cross off books that have already been awarded. ]

Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #417
(One Question.)
BN100 asks: What do you think of authors claiming "exclusive giveaways" for newsletter subscribers only, but the only way to enter is via social media or buying a book??
I might not mind an entry through social media (like Twitter or FB) but I don't like being required to buy a book for an entry.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month, I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a 1/2 book choice or $2.50 towards GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! The supply of questions is dwindling so share some if you think of any -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify them.
Thank you to Alina and BN100
for contributing questions used in March. Each get $2.50 or half book credit.

Your turn to share. BN100 asks: What do you think of authors claiming "exclusive giveaways" for newsletter subscribers only, but the only way to enter is via social media or buying a book??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Updated ARC and Other books, including the "Love" and Christmas titles all in one post.

SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on the question above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday, April 3, 2021, at 5 PM central.

  1. Happy Spring! I don't like the idea of having to buy a book to be entered in a giveaway either. Then it's not really a giveaway if purchase is necessary.
    Happy reading this week!

  2. seems like false advertising; agree with Martha about not liking the required to buy a book part

  3. Congrats to Marjorie!
I don't enter those giveaways because they make you sign up for everything under the sun. You shouldn't have to have so many stipulations in a giveaway. That takes the excitement out of it. I'm all for the author doing what they want, I just won't enter. Make those options, not mandatory.

  4. I dont believe authors should feel required to offer any gift. If they choose to do so is a kindness, not a requirement.
Readers aren't required to enter contests neither should they have expectations of authors regarding their giveaways.

  5. i hate those but even more those excluding international readers

  6. I would not buy a book to enter a giveaway. I might sign up on some form of social media.

  7. Thanks for the win, congrats to the winners.
I do not think it is right to enter a contest if you have to buy a book.

  8. Congrats, Marjorie!

I don't let things like that bother me. If for some reason I can't enter (because I'm not on social media or there is a requirement of a purchase), I forget and move on.

  9. Congrats Marjorie!
I don't mind the entry through social media but I don't care for having to buy a book just to get an entry in the giveaway.

  10. Congrats Marjorie, I agree in that I don't like it when you're expected to purchase a book to enter contest.Or having to sign up with about ten other Authors. I have too much email now without having to sign up for more.

  11. I dont enter giveaways that require any purchases...

  12. It's free choice either way. As long as the terms are clearly stated upfront, it's the author's choice on how to structure any giveaway. Similarly, a person has a choice if they want to participate or not.

  13. Hmm... I've never been in this position before since I'm international and such things don't usually apply to my country. I would love to be able to get ahold of some special goods that come with book purchases though so I think I'd go for it if applicable.

  14. Congrats Marjorie!
I don't like it. It's either a giveaway or not, so no purchase necessary, and if it's exclusively for newsletter subscribers, it should have any more hoops to jump through
