Sharing Beyond Books #150 Comment Giveaway May 10, 2014

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB!
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Five out of 18 people prefer shorter series, 3-5 books; one prefers a medium series of about 10. The others are all glad to have longer series as long as the author keeps up the focus and engaging storyline.  And I think Nikki is right that the In Death series is close to 40 especially if you include novellas. The Goodreads list shows #39 due out September 2014.

The Winner from SBB #149 comments is: #11 Faith Hope & Cherrytea who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #150 (One Question.)

Q1. Abby asks: Have you ever changed your mind about reading a book (summary/plot/cover didn’t capture your interest at first) after reading good blog reviews on that book? Which book was it??
A:  I find this an interesting question. Not only have I changed my mind based on good blog reviews but also I have agreed to review books upon a request when I might not have selected the book otherwise. One book I selected after seeing favorable blog reviews was The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We still have a supply of questions but from the same people so hopefully others will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.

Your turn to share:

Q1. Abby asks: Have you ever changed your mind about reading a book (summary/plot/cover didn’t capture your interest at first) after reading good blog reviews on that book? Which book was it??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Valentine and "Love" books, the Christmas Giveaway Books (this is the new link), or the June 2013 Newly Updated ARC/Review List.

SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on either of the two questions above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.

I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday May 17, 2014 at 5 PM  central.

  1. Sometimes, I'm encouraged to read a book, after reading various reviews. :)

  2. I don't think I have so far. Usually I find a book that piques my interest & use the reviews to reaffirm a purchase decision

  3. For me, it has been some of the new retellings of classics. I have never really liked the original Oz stories by Frank Baum. But there are several retellings that are getting great reviews. Same for Alice in Wonderland.

  4. I mostly buy books by reviews. One time I bought a book because I liked the cover and the reviews were terrible, it was by one of my favourite authors and I thought it was one of her best.

  6. The most recent one that I can think of is Cruel Beauty. At first I didn't want to read it but I read a lot of good reviews so I added it on my TBR list. I'll get to it some day!

  7. Yes, though the titles elude me now.

  8. I know I have, but can't remember which books. Sometimes there is something in the blurb that just didn't appeal, but reviewers and other readers comments where just so positive that I read it - I think I decided that the blurb was very misleading & even wondered if the person who wrote it had really read the whole book.

  9. I stick to a lot of my favorite authors but will read others if I read several good reviews of the book.

  11. Excellent site you have here but I was wondering
if you knew of any message boards that cover the same topics
talked about in this article? I'd really like to be a part of community
where I can get feedback from other knowledgeable individuals that share the same interest.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thanks!
