Saturday Snapshot (May 4, 2013) Wild Creatures

These are two wild creatures that I have stumbled upon.

This rattler was stretched across our driveway one morning when I went to my car.
I called my DH so he could take care of it. I guess I could have run it over but - ugh!
The rifle lets you see the length, It was over five feet long.

Here are his rattles.

Last fall I had a surprise one morning when I went to work.
Note that little black spot on the wall behind my office door.

Here are some zoomed in shots.
Little bat hanging up side down on the wall!

And in had a friend or mate in the brick near the door.
I was excited and they were sort of cute but creepy too.
I didn't want to get too close and disturb them.
They were only around two days before finding a better home somewhere else.

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

  1. Yikes! I don't know which of these varmints I like least!
    The snake or the bat!
Even though I would be opposed to killing either of them -- I would be very much in favour of immediate DEPORTATION!
    Cheers!

  2. Eeeeep!!! This is one of the upside of living up north; it's too cold for creepy crawlies. :) Great pics!

  3. UGH....I had a bat in my house about 35 years ago, it freaked me out.

  4. I love mother nature as long as she stays outside where she belongs!
The snake photos brings up a few hundred fear and anxiety issues I have about snakes - although thankfully we don't have rattlers in Australia. The red-belly black and brown snake are enough for me to worry about!!

  5. EEP that is a big snake - but the bat... on the wall he looks so tiny!

  6. Wow, that snake is big! Long rattles too!

I don't mind bats as long as they stay away from me. We had a couple of them get inside our house when I was growing up and it was a pain to catch them. We used my dad's big fishing net on a pole. Well, I shouldn't say "we" - it was really my dad who caught the bats and set them free. :)

  7. Oh my gosh, I would have screamed if I'd seen either one of those!

  8. You have a lot of wildlife going on. We used to get bats in our house in Michigan. One day I found my daughter, a toddler, kneeling on the stairs singing to a sleeping bat. I had to get her away from there. She decided the bat was her friend. Here's Mine

  9. Where do you live that you find rattlers and bats in your house and yard? Remind me that might not be a place I'd like to visit.

  14. I don't mind bats if they don't startle me. The snake....a whole different issue.

  15. That rattlesnake has such beautiful markings, I wouldn't like to see one though. The little bat is extraordinary, so cute. A great brush with nature.

  17. I don't mind bats or snakes at all. That bat looks smaller than the one I had follow me into my house one morning after bring the dogs back in. I thought I was going to be late to work because I was trying to get the bat out of my house. It eventually followed my out the front door.
