Sharing Beyond Books #29 Comment Giveaway December 31, 2011

Hello on NEW YEAR'S EVE! Are you out partying or waiting for the "Ball" to drop?  Not me. The DH isn't feeling well so he is off to bed early. I get to play on the computer for a while yet. :-)

Thank you for commenting last week.

Surprisingly (or maybe not) several of you wanted to remain females in present. Only two wanted to go to the past.  The balance were divided between future worlds or fantasy worlds.Carol L picked Eve Dallas in the In Death series - one of my possible choices too. Linda would like to be a dragon rider or harper --- cool. Llehn chose the Harry Potter setting and one I had to look up was I.S.'s choice: Daine of the Tortall from The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce.

Most commenters open presents sometime on Christmas day although there were a few who open theirs on Christmas Eve. Several got to open at least one present on Christmas Eve and Carol L's family did the kid's pjs tradition for Christmas Eve like my family.  Ricki got to open Christmas Eve, Christmas morning and Christmas later in the day. Sounds like a full day of presents - Sweet!

WEEK #29 Questions

Q1. This week Winnie asks: Do you ever get reading slumps? How do you get out of one??
A:  It has been a long time since I have had a reading slump. If I had one I would probably get out by listening to books on Audible which makes it so easy to 'read.'
My suggestion: Listen your way out of a slump!

Q2. Here is my question- Did you receive any books for Christmas? If yes, what book(s); if no (or you don't celebrate) what book do you wish you had gotten in the last two weeks??

A:  I unexpectedly received one book. My office assistant gave me How to Lead by THE BOOK by Dave Anderson which was a lovely surprise!

 HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!!

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask.  Input suggestions in this Suggested Question FormAt the end of each month I will draw from the suggestions I used the month before and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions but some of you others might want to get in a question or two as we have a few people submitting most of the questions so far.  Either way - it works for me. :-)  I welcome more questions. Remember they don't all have to be book related. I'm going to be asking some other questions soon!
December we had Qs submitted by mamabunny, Winnie, Mary P, Abby and Winnie. Random.Org #2 = Winnie.  Please pick a book Winnie!

  1. 1. I hate reading slumps. Usually they will pass on their own, but sometimes it takes starting a new book - one that I really want to read - to get me out of it.
    2. I received three: The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, The Tin Princess by Philip Pullman, & The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

  2. 1. Fortunately it does not happen often, but I guess it comes with the territory that when you read a lot you sometimes slow down too. What works for me is not to give in to the voice who wants to take a break from reading and instead get one of my favorite books and read it again. Helps every time!
    2. I also received a book quite unexpectedly. My friend Amy sent me a beautiful hardcover edition of Mary Louise Alcott's novels Little Women/Little Men/Jo's Boys. I've never read these before (shame on my, I know) so this was a lovely surprise!

  3. Happy New Year everyone.
I haven't had a reading slump believe it or not but unbelievably the last week I feel one coming on. I'm hoping it passes quickly because my TRL is gigantic.

I wished I had gotten Steven King's latest 11/22/63. But I got it from my library yesterday anyway.
    Congrats to Linda K.

  4. 1. If I ever get into any kind of reading slump, I ask my daughter for reading suggestions. She usually gives me the names of books I MUST READ. This always breaks the cycle & I'm right back into it again.
    2. I did not get any books for Christmas which is unusual. I would have liked a copy of SNUFF by Terry Pratchett.

  11. I do get into reading slumps and sometimes I don't read any books for a few days and instead watch some comedy DVDs. I did not get any books for Christmas, but I did get a gift card. Happy New Year.

  12. 1. I sometimes get in reading slumps - definitely in the summer when we're much busier and it's nice outside

  13. 1. Yes, most definitely. I find usually that time resolves the slump.

    2. No, but I wished Santa had brought me Rae Carson's Girl of Fire and Thorns.

  14. My reading slumps are usually due to a lack of time or health problems. I end up taking care of my son and DIL's dogs plus the foster dogs as well as my own. It has to be done in shifts. Then, of course there has to be computer play time and TV time. So something has to go.

I didn't get any books for gifts but I did win some great ones and got some good free kindle books, too. Now, if I only had time to read them all.

And, to Carol L., Thanks for acknowledging my lucky win.

  15. 1. Do you ever get reading slumps? How do you get out of one?
Yes, but I will try to find some time to read, even if the time is short.

    2. Did you receive any books for Christmas? If yes, what book(s); if no (or you don't celebrate) what book do you wish you had gotten in the last two weeks?
No, I didn't receive books for Christmas. I wish I had gotten Crime by Ferdinand von Shirach in the last two weeks.

  16. 1. Yes, I do get reading slumps from time to time, but there are different kinds. Like I can get into a slump when other things in life get busy and I don't have much time to read and other times, I just may not be able to find some books that can hold my interest to read. To try to get out of a slump, I either just put reading off until I find something I really want to read or I re-read some of my favourite books to get things going again :)

    2. I didn't receive any books for Christmas but I did receive gift cards that I could use to purchase books with and am still deciding on what I want to use them for.

  17. 1. I don't get into reading slumps. I need to read books to keep my brain sane!! :)

    2. I didn't get any books official through Christmas, just money and giftcards, but with that, I bought Touch of Power, Shatter Me, Spirit Bound, Carrier of the Mark, Inside, In Close, A Feast of Crows, Wolfsbane, Wither, Soul Screamers Volume 1, Fallen, and Torment. Yep :) I could've gotten more, but I had to renew my irewards card, and that turned out to be $35 instead of the $20 that I planned, so I couldn't get Unearthly or Before I Fall. Evil expensive program!!!

  18. 1. Do you ever get reading slumps? How do you get out of one??
YES! Only in the sense that some are boring so I have to start a new book then go back and try continuing the previous book. Also it happened with the book I am currently reading, Heat Wave. It's SO like the Castle series that I got so mixed up so I had to put it down for awhile first. Now am happily reading it again!

    2. Did you receive any books for Christmas? If yes, what book(s); if no (or you don't celebrate) what book do you wish you had gotten in the last two weeks??
Yup. I did. I received Love Your Life by Victoria Osteen. I think someone is trying to tell me something. I have SO MANY books on my wishlist I am saving up for. A manga to continue my series, other books to continue my other series...lots!
