Sharing Beyond Books #426 Comment Giveaway July 24, 2021

Hello again, Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books.

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Last post SBB#425 Elizabeth asked: For summer picnics and parties, what's your favorite dish / meal to share??
I am excited that, with 12 of us answering, if we gathered together, we would have 12 different dishes from hors d'oeuvres (1 or 2), to salads (2), main entrees (4), side dishes (1) and desserts (4). I was surprised that some of the commenters have never been on a picnic and two others are in countries that don't do picnics!

QQ for US participants: I need to update and refill the books available to US winners. I have used "Love" and "Christmas" titles as well as ARC titles. Since the supply is lower, I have author collections I could choose from, mostly romance - historical, suspense and some contemporary. What books/authors would you like me to include?

The Winner from SBB#425 comments is #7 ALINA who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) ARC/Review titles or (recently updated) Love and Christmas titles - all linked near the end of the post. -- [11/16/19 I plan to add some review books this week and maybe some new Christmas and Love titles as soon as I locate the box I put them in. 11/28/20 I have added a box of new books for SBB and will list them in the next week or so. I have to try to cross off books that have already been awarded.]

Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #426
(One Question.)
Becky asks: Which form of public transport do you prefer???
Most of Florida doesn't have wide public transportation except for certain tourist cities (Orlando, Miami come to mind). However, whenever we travel for vacationing we love to take the trains (metro and between cities) and we always take the tour buses to get a quick idea of the city and available attractions.

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Last post SBB#424 Ashfa asks: What's the last book you read because you loved the cover??
Three commenters don't choose by covers. One is currently choosing by author and one couldn't remember. The other five of us named a title and I had to go look at some of those covers.

WEEK #422
(One Question.)
I'm asking a question tonight: Did you (or would you) want to write your own wedding vows??
I think hubby and I were married before it became popular to write individual vows. The Christian, traditional marita service was good for us. And I think it would be good if we reach 40 years (in five years).

I am not subscribed to any of the boxes although I have been tempted especially by coffee or tea and book boxes. My assistant was given a six-month make-up subscription at Christmas. It sure seems fun. I think Sci Fi, Fantasy book would tempt me.

I apparently am not a superhero fan because I had to look up "MC" - Marvel Cinematic Universe - and "DCEU" - DC is for DC comics and I gather EU is for extended universe. Now that I got the images I can say I enjoy the Guardian movies -- really like Groot!

Hello again, Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books.

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Last Q#412 Ashfa asked: What topic would you like to see tackled more in diverse reads??
Four of us suggested more dystopian with two of us mentioning 'prepper' stories. Three suggested more diversity - different tropes, race and equality issues and different cultures. Three didn't know what to suggest and one added more pets. Although I might not agree with Fredaman's suggestion that included "more sexuality" (or I would chose not to read it), I totally agree with her comment: "More of it all. Don't ban it, read it." I agree - let it be the reader's choice to read or not.

WEEK #413
(One Question.)
Natalija asks: Do you prefer alpha or beta heroes in your romantic fiction??
I think I generally prefer alpha males but it may depend on how you define alpha male. He still has to be loyal and honest, not a womanizer or a cheat, and kind rather than bullying.

If you're a girl: You don't see alpha vs beta male shaming? Two personalities set a different tone for what is accepted by the girl.

WEEK #412
(One Question.)
Ashfa asks: What topic would you like to see tackled more in diverse reads??
I have been reading a lot of post-apocalyptic and I like the different 'prepper' and survival scenarios that are presented. This includes 'end times' scenarios and (although it may seem too close to home right now) near future apocalyptic stories, which may occur from natural catastrophes or political events.

I am always interested in more creative topics in this line.

I have read a couple of series like Divided We Fall, Borrowed World, Days of Elijah, America Rising and Patriots of Treason. I have a more I want to read/listen to like Days of Noah and Sedition.

WEEK #411
(One Question.)
Miki asks: What kind of book tour do you like? one with several snippet along the tours? behind the scene blog post or review only or something else??
I used to participate in more tours and I always liked to do reviews and a Giveaway. I don't find cover reveals so interesting - that's just me. I don't mind a short excerpt but I'm not crazy about long ones. I also enjoy shorter interviews or author's posts.

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB and the last month of 2020!
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Last week Q#409: What is a book that you think every child should read??
Three people named Enid Blyton, two each comments for the Bible, Black Beauty, Winnie the Pooh, and Dr. Seuss. Other books or authors mentioned include Anne of Green Gables, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and la comtesse de segur and Komey Chukovsky (think Russian Dr. Seuss).

The Winner from SBB #409 comments is #3 BN100 who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) WEEK #410
(One Question.)
Nikki asks: If you had the power to make a fave book into a movie/tv series adaptation, what book would you choose and why??
We may have had this question before but maybe we have different suggestions now. Two series that popped into my mind are the Mercy Thompson series (provided they don't cheapen it like the Sookie Stackhouse series) or the Destoryermen series. I dont' watch Netflix but if I did I would like to see the Virgin River and Bridgerton series.

Sharing Beyond Books #409 Comment Giveaway November 28, 2020

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB.
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Last week Q#408: What word/phrase do you hate hearing??
Six of us don't like swear words; two don't like the word "moist". Others don't like these words: goon, smirk, bae, whatever, adulting, oh my, bigly, and yo. Also one doesn't like repetitive words in books.

The Winner from SBB #408 comments is #8 ELIZA who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) WEEK #409
(One Question.)
Fredamans asks: What is a book that you think every child should read??
My first choice would be the Bible. But for non religious I'll go with: The Night Before Christmas, Winnie the Pooh and Black Beauty although there are many more! Oh - two more: I'll Love You Forever and The Growing Tree.

Sharing Beyond Books #408 Comment Giveaway November 14, 2020

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB.
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Q#407: Do you think your reading tastes have changed in the last 5 years or are you still reading the same genres/sub-genres??
Six commenters say their reading hasn't change and seven of us had maybe some shift.
The last time this question was asked was SBB#198 on 4/11/2015 if you want to check answers then.

The Winner from SBB #407 comments is #10 ALINA who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) WEEK #408
(One Question.)
BN100 asks: What word/phrase do you hate hearing??
I know I don't like foul, dirty words, or explicit and base sexual descriptions. I also don't care for immature, selfish characters.
It took me a few minutes to think of phrases I don't like such as: ending a sentence with a preposition, ie. where's she at? and improper use of "I seen". And I'm not too thrilled with the phrase "the new normal". The word "hate" is one I don't use so maybe I don't like hearing that either.

Sharing Beyond Books #407 Comment Giveaway October 31, 2020

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB.
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Q#406: Did your area have a stay-at-home order? Or are you considered an essential worker???
There were two commenters out of the US and one in the USA who did not have stay at home orders. Even there, two said that wearing masks were required and the other has had curfews.
The rest have had various degrees of stay at home requirements. Fredamans is a cashier and I agree with her that the customers should be wearing masks.
Sadly we are seeing an increase in cases with the relaxing of SAH restrictions.
It appears that many countries did flatten the curve so that the hospitals have not been overwhelmed and the percentages of deaths is not increasing. Still, each death is cause for sorrow and prayer.

The Winner from SBB #406 comments is #12 ASHFA who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) **NOTE: I did post an Updated ARC and Other books for Giveaways. I have to go back and list the titles -- someday.

WEEK #407
(One Question.)
Alina asks: Do you think your reading tastes have changed in the last 5 years or are you still reading the same genres/sub-genres??
A similar question was asked in 2015 so it has been five years and we can look back to answer. (I'll put the older link in the answers next week.)
I think I started to shift to more sci fi (dystopia, post-apocalyptic, space military) a bit more than five years ago and that trend has continued. I do not read as much romance as I used to.  However, I have added more nonfiction as I am reading one nonfiction a month.

Sharing Beyond Books #406 Comment Giveaway October 17, 2020

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Q#405: How do you pick you next read? Or pick from TBR pile?
Some commenters had first and second methods. Four commenters pick review titles first (that makes sense). Five pick based on mood or emotion. Four liked to go through Series or author whose series they have liked. Four pick what looks interesting or catches eye. Two pick the next book on the pile. And one reads their newest books first.

The Winner from SBB #405 comments is #8 MARJORIE who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) WEEK #406
(One Question.)
Elizabeth asks: Did your area have a stay-at-home order? Or are you considered an essential worker??
This was submitted in May but is still timely...sadly. My answer is Yes and Yes.
Our title and law office has remained open throughout but with locked doors, only seeing people by appointment and preferably by phone whenever possible.
The courts were closed for in person hearings so hearings and trials were held by Zoom. This month they have opened the courts to limited in person hearings, including foreclosure sales and eviction proceedings for the first time since March.
Restaurants suffered as they were closed a month or two except for to-go orders.
Slowly they have been allowed to reopen in stages.
During the summer hair and nail salons were allowed to reopen with limited appointments, and extra precautions - masks, temperature checks, station shields etc.
Schools opened in August with choices: in person or online; some mixed.
As of October, Florida is now pretty much open with local restrictions as needed and masks and social distancing still encouraged. We plan to continue our locked door policy for at least a few more months.
