Sunday Post May 17, 2020/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday May 18, 2020

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and Storms
I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)?
What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I remain very busy at work. My trial prep has been taking up time but will be worth it this week. Heather needs to start the data report now due June 1 (extended from May 1).
Hubby's doctor appointments showed more deterioration in his lungs. Seems they can't do anything for it. His primary doctor/nurse practitioner advised that he had walking pneumonia so he has been on antibiotics. That has helped his breathing.
This morning Hubby made me a yummy egg and bacon sandwich for breakfast!
(I don't usually eat white bread but that is all we had and I am not going to complain.)
Our weather is warming up mid 70s to low 90s. Some recent reports indicate the virus doesn't transmit in temperatures over 77 so maybe that is good for us. Heavy rains today.
Our governor is allowing more openings this week.
I continue to hope everyone is staying safe in these awkward times.
I enjoyed my reading and listening even though only two books again: one audiobook and one ebook. I posted two reviews and my usual memes.

I visited 17 blogs again this week.
Shout Out this week to The Intrepid Reader. Marg says "Once upon a time I was all about books but these days not so much. Now I will be more likely to be cooking. My adventures through time and place used to be all without leaving the pages of my book.. Now real life is an adventure."

Don't forget- Audible is offering free children's titles during these days at home.
Audiobooks.com is also offering free listens for children.

These were last week's posts:
  • A2020- Audible Book Review: Through the Flames by Bonnie R. Paulson; Genre: EOTW, Post-Apocalyptic, Sci-Fi; My Rating: 4.0 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.0; Narration 4.0.

Deal with the Devil: A Mercenary Librarians Novel
by Kit Rocha
I like how this has begun.
Source: NetGalley 2020.
Deal with the Devil is Orphan Black meets the post-apocalyptic Avengers by USA Today and New York Times bestselling author duo Kit Rocha.
Nina is an information broker with a mission—she and her team of mercenary librarians use their knowledge to save the hopeless in a crumbling America.
Knox is the bitter, battle-weary captain of the Silver Devils. His squad of supersoldiers went AWOL to avoid slaughtering innocents, and now he's fighting to survive.
They’re on a deadly collision course, and the passion that flares between them only makes it more dangerous. They could burn down the world, destroying each other in the process…
Or they could do the impossible: team up.
This is the first book in a near-future science fiction series with elements of romance.

I'm keeping track of my Alphabet here as I finish the books. The cross-outs aren't easy to see, so I made the completed letters blue.

May 17, 2020 - I am again enjoying the devotions and readings with the One Year Bible plan through You Version App. I considered changing but this is the reading group that is closest to my husband's reading so we can sometimes discuss the same passages.
I started a six-day study in James: Practical Instructions For Your Daily Life Journey

I completed two books and posted two reviews; I am one review behind.
My NetGalley shelf is down to 9 again, plus the four titles from 2012-13 which I still hope to read this year.
I still have one carry over author ebook and two new author ebooks. I expect to pull one of these soon. I have one audiobook from an author and now I have 1 other new audiobook left of four (third done this week).
Still many titles through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.
Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Leslie of Under My Apple Tree, Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
No review books this week.

I still have to check the email requests I have been receiving. {Sigh.}
I picked out two April Audible credits, one May Audible Original and two free Audibles.
Again, I added NO, ZIP, ZILCH free kindle titles this week. I haven't taken time to view the free offerings due to work and limited energy at night.
(Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.) Are your mailbox and TBR piles blooming?

  1. I'm sorry to hear your hubby is not well. How sweet of him to make you a meal. :-) Enjoy your reading week.

  2. Wow! I'm glad to hear that over 77 degrees the virus may not transmit. We are in South Florida and it has been HOT and humid for the past 2 weeks! Tomorrow we have stores like Homegoods, TJMaxx, and the mall opening up! I'll still be staying in. I don't really need anything and I'm in a higher risk age group. Have a great week!

  3. It would be good if the virus didn’t transmit in temperatures over 77 but it hit Australia during our mid summer where we had temperatures in the 90’sF everyday. I am interested in reading Quack. My cousin’s son had selective mutism as a child.

  6. I will keep your husband up in prayer. How nice that he made you breakfast.

Quack looks cute. Don't Give Up sounds good too.

I like our quote from Marg. Our world is so different lately. Hopefully we can navigate the new normal and give a bit of grace to each other as we proceed.
