Another week has flown by. It was busy for me - how about you? We had a few warmer days but now rain has brought in the cold again.
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
There were some wonderful ideas for gifts. Many agree regarding special bookmarks, gift cards and more. Di suggested a lightwedge which I never heard of. Also Sarah suggested a great gift that has no monetary cost but a lot of heart cost: a thought out list of book suggestions! The link that I left gave some other suggestions like ear plugs or library/name stamp. Another one that I thought of is ear buds - I need to replace those for my MP player several times a year.

The Winner from SBB #186 comments is: #11 Infuse who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post. I'm hoping to update the book choices this week. Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.
WEEK #187 (One Question.)
Q1. MaryP asks: What makes you decide to take a chance on a "new to you" author??
A: I like to try "new to me" authors. What I look for is a genre and blurb that interest me. I will also check into recommendations from other bloggers. :-)
Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We still have a supply of questions but from the same people so hopefully others will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.
Your turn to share:
Q1. MaryP asks: What makes you decide to take a chance on a "new to you" author??
SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Valentine and "Love" books or the June 2013 Newly Updated ARC/Review List. (My daughter pulled several of the Christmas titles to give with gift bags we made up for the nursing homes. I have to go back and update that list with what is left and a few new titles to add.)
SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on either of the two questions above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday January 31, 2015 at 5 PM central.
I will read a new author when I read good reviews of them - mostly on blogs
ReplyDeletesometimes it's as simple as an appealing cover! But it's often the genre that pulls me in.
ReplyDeleteIt's mainly word of mouth like a friend, another blogger, or even a few people I follow on Youtube. If someone I trust tells me the book is good, I will read what it's about and usually give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteReview, the blurb, sometimes the price too
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winner. I look to see if they write in my preferred genres and I've read a lot of reviews about a new Author and now they are actually auto buys for me.Thanks for the question.

I will read a new author if the book sounds good. I have recently found several new authors whose books I love.
ReplyDeleteI check on reviews by fellow bloggers and places like Goodreads. Also, I like to read interviews of authors and if they have similar likes in books/authors I am more likely to give their book a chance.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually drawn in by the cover at first. Not always, but it makes me take a second look. And then I'll check out the synopsis and if other people have been recommending it. It also comes down to availability. I'm much more likely to read a book if I can check it out from the library.
ReplyDeleteI am always open to new or new to me authors. It's the synopsis and cover that pull me in. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to this week's winner!
mostly if it's recommended to my by several or excellent good bloggers friends ( which i know have a lot of common taste with me) or if i win a giveaway for example
ReplyDeleteWhen choosing a book by a new author I rely on the blurb, reviews I find online, and of course, the genre. I have a couple blogs that I feel do a real good job reviewing cozy mysteries and I can trust their recommendations.
ReplyDeletethe premise, no typos or grammatical errors in the blurb/excerpt/title
ReplyDeleteWOM is a huge factor. I also look at covers & read blurbs.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the jacket copy and it intrigues me and I like the opening pages.
ReplyDeleteIf the summary sounds good to me and the cover will make me try a new author.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I love trying new to me authors! I take a chance on them when I read reviews on Goodreads and Amazon and hear good things about them. Sometimes I will pick up a book because I've interacted with the author on social media or enjoyed their website.
ReplyDeleteI tend to read new authors, based on the book summary, reviews, and excerpts.
ReplyDeletecover always grabs me 1st. if it pulls me in to read book cover blurb with an appealing storyline, I'm willing to try it. Have often been fooled though, but it is one sure way of finding my own author likes and dislikes.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually attracted by the cover and then read the reviews.

If I see a book around a lot, see a good teaser or an amazing cover I'll usually look the book up on Goodreads, look at the rating and read some reviews. If I look like I'll really be into I will just go for it.
ReplyDeleteI subscribe to many book blogs and I usually go the reviews from the bloggers and then check out the reviews on amazon.
ReplyDeleteI'm all about enticing covers and summaries. Summaries is the most important thing, covers and authors come after.
