Sharing Beyond Books #171 Comment Giveaway October 4, 2014

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB!
I did some catch up in the office today but spent a lot of time with a sneezy, runny nose. I hope it's just a reaction to cold weather and nothing more. I am fading this evening as I get this post ready.

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
I was a bit surprised that only five people are curious or interested in Banned Books. Eight people said they are not interested or curious. No one had plans to read a Banned Book in 2015. Mystica and Elizabeth noted that the reasons many books were banned were just silly or not pertinent

The Winner from SBB #170 comments is: #13 Rita who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #171 (One Question.)

Q1. This is a good question to ask in October. Nikki asks: 1. Have you ever come across a story so gruesome/scary/freaky (you get the point) that you had to quickly shut the book? (eg. Harry Potter when he came across that screaming book in the Restricted Section!)??
A: I am inclined to answer, "Yes." But I can't think what book it was.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We still have a supply of questions but from the same people so hopefully others will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.

Your turn to share:

Q1. Nikki asks: Have you ever come across a story so gruesome/scary/freaky (you get the point) that you had to quickly shut the book? (eg. Harry Potter when he came across that screaming book in the Restricted Section!)??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Valentine and "Love" books, the Christmas Giveaway Books (this is the new link), or the June 2013 Newly Updated ARC/Review List.

SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on either of the two questions above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.

I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday October 11, 2014 at 5 PM  central.

  1. No, I never came across a story like that.

  2. Chevy Stevens frightened the daylights out of me. Also Silence of the Lambs.

  3. Yes, it was a truly horrific story of the children tieing down & torturing the baby-sitter. Once I realised what was going on I not only stopped reading I actually put the book in the garbage. It shook me up terribly.

  4. No, because I avoid scary books in general

  5. I read only for fun and escapism--so I won't even open the cover on something that looks like it is scary or gory. I've never read a Steven King novel and probably never will.

  6. Never. I have read some books with very strange things that made me cringe but I keep on reading.

  7. Wow! I forgot I ever wrote this question. Luckily I'm not into horror so this hasn't actually happened to me before. But if it were to happen, it'd probably be a Stephen King book. Thanks for using my question Martha!

    Congrats winners!

  8. Congrats Rita!
Now I had some books that kept me up at night, but scary enough to have me shut the book... I wish!

  9. hum... i had moment i wanted to stop reading soul ressurected by Keri lake because it was too much horror for me but the story was still compelling so i had to go back reading after a moment to gather my thoughts and breath

  10. I don't think so, at least not recently. I don't really read horror anymore.

  11. Not really - I have turned off tv shows or movies when they have been too scary (I've stopped watching Criminal Minds)

  12. Sometimes, but I now try to avoid reading those.

  13. I never read scary books because I think about them and can't sleep.
