Sunday Words of Encouragement May 8, 2011

I hope all mothers have had a beautiful mother's day.
I did. :-)
We had one of our retired pastors give the Mother's Day sermon today. It was very sweet. He encouraged mothers to [continue] to stand up and be counted - speaking for right and against wrong.
He reminded us that mothers who are followers of Christ should be Christian in word and deed.[Prov 31:10-31.] We should commit our families to the Lord. [Like Hannah did with Samuel. 1 Samuel 1:26.]  We should stand on God's promises and train our children in the way they should go and trust God with the rest. [Prov 22:6.]
Remember: Mothers cast a long shadow.

I lost my mother when I was 21.
I still remember her faithfulness, determination and honor she taught us.
This song seemed to fit nicely.
A Verse for Today.
2 Kings 4:30
But the child's mother said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So he got up and followed her.

This morning we prayed for mothers everywhere - for strength, patience, and the loving heart of God.

We had a wonderful afternoon by the pool with our daughter, son-in-law and the three children. My DH gave me flowers and our daughter gave me a hydrangea plant. I have some pictures and I hope to post one or two soon.

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 36 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner (Corrected)

(The first post for this was an "oops" - phone rang and I hit the wrong button. - sorry to any subscribers that got that.)
Well - I was glad to see a few others have lots of shoes even if most of us only wear a few favorite pairs. Our sizes ran from 5 to 12 and numbers from 1 to over 50. I have to say that I bagged up 20 pairs of my shoes for Goodwill when I realized I hadn't worn them in ages. I plan to bag more tomorrow too.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #35 is: #9. Chelsea. Chelsea, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

This meme is hosted by Dollycas Thoughts for Thursdays - which are hard for me to make.  The goal is to get to know our fellow bloggers and visitors better. Each week Dolly asks some questions for us to answer and then link up. I am late doing the post but I am trying to to participate as I would like to learn more about blogger and follower friends.

WEEK 36 QUESTIONS
Interesting Questions.
1. Where were you or what were you doing when you learned of the death of Osama bin Laden?
I was getting up from bed and my husband read me the news from the computer.

2. Where were you or what were you doing when you learned of the tragedies of 9/11?
I had just arrived at my office. We did not have a TV so we turned the news on the computer.
We were all stunned.

3. Do you feel safer today than you did before Sunday evening?
I am glad that a terrorist of this caliber has been stopped. I wouldn't say that I feel safer because of it. There is more a sense of danger from the strange weather occurrences such as the recent tsunamis and tornadoes. I take comfort that my safety is secure in bigger hands.

Your turn to share: Where were you and what were you doing when you learned about Osama bin Laden? Where were you and what were you doing when you learned of the attacks of 9/11? Do you feel safer now?

Enquire Comment Winners can choose a selection from  Valentine and "Love" books or the remaining Christmas Giveaway Books

Women.jpgThe Amazing Women Series
The Amazing Women series from the Amazing People Club offers inspiration and a new way to celebrate women around the world.”  Today, more and more women become doctors, politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, financial advisers, and take on other roles outside the home.  This, of course, has certainly not always been the case.  The women in our ‘Club’ were trailblazers.  Their stories are a source of inspiration and are revealed through our BioView format.  Each story is a biography – a virtual interview – reflecting the life story of an amazing person.   It offers an interesting and easy way to learn from those who have made major contributions to our world.  Discover how these amazing women lived, loved and worked in their own distinct ways.  We can learn key lessons from each one of them.  In particular, their achievements were a result of their determination to continue on, regardless of how difficult the journey.  They believed in what they had to offer, and used their time well.  Here is a snippet from one of them:-
Florence Nightingale
1820–1910
From the age of 17, I knew my destiny lay with many men
I said ‘no’ to the proposals of marriage that I received
I felt strongly that my role in life was to help others
Beyond my education in Latin, Greek, German, French and Italian
My first name came from the city of Florence in Italy
That is where I was born
My parents came from a well endowed English family
In 1837, “God spoke to me and called me to his service”
They were disappointed and upset when I chose to be a nurse.
