Audio Book Week- Mid Week Meme

Jen at Devourer of Books is hosting this event (and I saw at over at Book Journey). I am jumping in a few days late but anyone who follows my blog knows I read...opps...make that LISTEN to audio books all the time. I will post my Audio Giveaway later today.
Current/most recent audiobook:

Impressions: I am enjoying the WWII history in Luciano's Luck. It is moving nicely.
I love Eve Dallas and Rourke in the In Death Series! I will post that review with the print giveaway by week's end.  I have the next book in My Audible Library and will start it soon. :-)

Current favorite audiobook: Does anyone have any idea how hard it is for me to pick a favorite book or audiobook? No can do! So I'll list a couple of favs:
  • 1> The Study series by Maria V. Snyder, as well as Inside Out and Outside In - okay let's include ALL of her books.
  • 2> The In Death series by J.D. Robb
  • 3> A recent listen I loved: Soulless by Gail Carriger and I will be listening to the others VERY soon
  • 4> An old time favorite audiobook: Lightning by Dean Koontz - this is a shelf keeper.

One narrator who always makes you choose audio over print:
I am not sure I would necessarily look at the narrator before picking audio over print although it could be a consideration if I have had a bad experience with a narrator (which I have). Here are some narrators I really enjoy:
  • Anna Fields - I love her readings of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books. Unfortunately she was tragically killed in 2006.
  • The narrator of the In Death Series Susan Ericksen does a suburb job on accents and emotions.
  • I have listened to many good detective stories narrated by Will Patton. He has a smooth deep voice that adds character.
  • Another narrator I know I can trust to enjoy is Dick Hill who has read plenty of mysteries, military, sci fi, and even romance.
  • In the paranormal genre I like Marguerite Gavin who narrates the Rachel Morgan series, the Kitty Norville series and more.
  • Also, Gabra Zachman, who read the Study Series, and
  • Emily Gray who reads the Alexia Tarabotti Series.

Genre you most often choose to listen to: It is very varied. I will listen to paranormal, mystery, romance, sci fi. I love an audio book because I can listen with hands free for choirs or driving.

If given the choice, you will always choose audio when: the book is long but available on audio I will choose audio because I can listen during chores, while exercising and before bed, getting up etc. Also, once I start a series I am apt to continue in audio/Audible.

If given the choice, you will always choose print when: the story is only available in print when I want to read it. Oh that isn't "given the choice." Sooo let's think. I will choose print for children's books so I can share them with my grandchildren. Books that shift in time, forward and back, like The Time Traveller's Wife, are a bit trickier in audio but you don't always know that before you select a book. There have been some books that I liked so much on Audible that I determined to buy the print books, i.e. the Study series by Maria V. Snyder.

How about you my commenting friends? Care to share how you feel about Audio books? (Note: Sharing a comment will gain an extra entry for the Audio Week Celebration Giveaway I will be posting.)

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 40 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

NOTE - THIS IS THE LAST WEEK OF ENQUIRING MINDS TO BE HOSTED BY DOLLYCAS. HOWEVER I WILL BE CONTINUING A SIMILAR COMMENT FEATURE.
I WILL POST NEXT SATURDAY because that is an easier day for me.
Thank you to those who commented and encouraged continuing!
Next week you can help me pick the name and picture for the event. :-)
I may not do a linky unless there is a big request for that.

Thanks again for your answers last week.  Several of us wanted to meet authors, a few actors and some other interesting figures. Most of us do not have plans fora summer vacation but are planning to summer at home.  Interestingly a few of the favorite TV shows are based on books like Bones (Kathy Reich's Temperance Brennan books) and Game of Thrones. And Jennifer C - we recently watched all of Firefly on Netflix and loved the show!

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #39 is: #6 AIK. Aik is across the seas so she will probably choose a GC; otherwise she could try picking a small book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

This meme is hosted by Dollycas Thoughts for Thursdays - which are hard for me to make.  The goal is to get to know our fellow bloggers and visitors better. Each week Dolly asks some questions for us to answer and then link up. I am late doing the post but I am trying to to participate as I would like to learn more about blogger and follower friends.

so I think instead I would like there to be No more hunger.

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 39 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

I'm not sure if most of you missed my comment (** below in blue) last week noting that Dollycas will be ending this meme next week at #40.  Only three comments were made indicating they would like to either continue this or a similar comment post.  I would probably end up doing them on Saturday since that is usually when I get to it. (A little late tonight.) So maybe give me a comment this week if you are OR are not interested in continuing with a similar comment meme.
Thanks again for your answers last week.  There were some interesting job "dreams." I was curious what  Rachel's 'music therapist' career involves.  Many of us attended college and a several are in college now - oh you young things! Most of us do not go to reunions although at least five answered "not yet" because they are young and two were too far away.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #38 is: #1 Meredith. Meredith, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 39 QUESTIONS

1. If you could meet a famous person who would you like to meet?
If this were a deceased person it would be easier - #1 Jesus; #2 Abraham Lincoln.
However I assume we are supposed to pick a living person so I had to think and think. I decided not to pick a political person. And I am not a huge Hollywood star fan. So I decided maybe an author but then I had to think and think which one and I had a hard time settling on just one. I like Dollycas' answer.  (This is one of the few times I saw her answer before I typed in my own answers.)  I enjoyed going to the Romantic Times Book Fair two years ago and meeting many authors, including a brief hello with Heather Graham. I would love to go to a book convention and I hope I can safe up for BEA next year.  However, looking at this crowd I may have second thoughts.

 2. Are you planning a summer vacation?
We have already been on a couple of trips earlier this year so we have not made any summer plans yet. Maybe we will vacation at home!

3. What is your favorite television show?
We mostly watch movies on TV not shows. We used to love "24".

Your turn to share: What famous person would you like to meet? Are you planning a summer vacation? What is your favorite television show?
**Please NOTE while you are answering - Lori at Dollycas has advised that she is going to be ending this meme at #40. I have really enjoyed getting to know you better by your answers and I may continue the questions or I could go to a comment meme. Please let me know if you are interested in continuing the enquiring type questions or would prefer another type of comment meme.

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 38 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

Most of us agree we like to be outside on a bright sunny spring day! I would love to go on an archaeological dig with Elizabeth too! That would be awesome.  Green and Blue tied as favorite colors with four votes each and October and December each got three votes.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #37 is: #13 Jane. Jane, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 38 QUESTIONS

1. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
HA - I think sometime before the age of 12 I read Alice in Wonderland. I can't find the quote but somehow I always knew then that 'if I am to be a queen, I'd surely handle it in time.'
In High School I wanted to be a writer, more precisely a journalist and that was my undergrad work in college. But as soon as I took a business law class in college - I was hooked on law.

2. Did you go to college?
Yes for 6 years. I got a BS in Journalism/Public Relations. Then I got my JD - Juris Doctor - in Law.

3. Do you attend your high school or college reunions?
My DH and I attended my 20 year reunion with my sister and her husband - she and I graduated together. I have not gone since although my sister has. My DH and I danced up a storm!
We have not been to a college reunion.

Your turn to share: What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you go to college? Do you attend reunions? Please NOTE while you are answering - Lori at Dollycas has advised that she is going to be ending this meme at #40. Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 37 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

Interesting replies regarding the death of Osama bin Laden. The majority of comments indicate that we do not feel much safer in our world today. Jennifer was brave enough to say she supports the conspiracy theories. I was sort of surprised to see all the sites on that when I was pulling the 9/11 photo.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #36 is: #7. Mariee. Mariee, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 37 QUESTIONS

1. What is your favorite thing to do on a sunny bright Spring day?
Well - it should probably be swimming but my favorite thing any day is reading. So how about this picture: that's me on the float in the corner of the pool with a book! (I have a funny pony tail on the top of my head so I didn't use any close up shot.)

2. What is your favorite color?
Burgandy. With close second of nice greens.

3. Do you have a favorite month of the year?
Thinking....thinking...  Not really any favorite as I usually like any month I'm in except when it is too hot in the summer.
But maybe December is my favorite because both Christmas and my birthday are celebrated that Month.

Your turn to share: What is your favorite thing to do on a bright spring day? Wat is your favorite color? Do you have a favorite month?

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 36 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner (Corrected)

(The first post for this was an "oops" - phone rang and I hit the wrong button. - sorry to any subscribers that got that.)
Well - I was glad to see a few others have lots of shoes even if most of us only wear a few favorite pairs. Our sizes ran from 5 to 12 and numbers from 1 to over 50. I have to say that I bagged up 20 pairs of my shoes for Goodwill when I realized I hadn't worn them in ages. I plan to bag more tomorrow too.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #35 is: #9. Chelsea. Chelsea, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 36 QUESTIONS
Interesting Questions.
1. Where were you or what were you doing when you learned of the death of Osama bin Laden?
I was getting up from bed and my husband read me the news from the computer.

2. Where were you or what were you doing when you learned of the tragedies of 9/11?
I had just arrived at my office. We did not have a TV so we turned the news on the computer.
We were all stunned.

3. Do you feel safer today than you did before Sunday evening?
I am glad that a terrorist of this caliber has been stopped. I wouldn't say that I feel safer because of it. There is more a sense of danger from the strange weather occurrences such as the recent tsunamis and tornadoes. I take comfort that my safety is secure in bigger hands.

Your turn to share: Where were you and what were you doing when you learned about Osama bin Laden? Where were you and what were you doing when you learned of the attacks of 9/11? Do you feel safer now?

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 35 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

Yum candy- the Cadbury creme or caramel eggs seem to be the most favorite of the answers with Reese's peanut butter eggs the next fav. And ChrisS loves the old yellow peeps! It has been a while since I got those since I am not a marshmallow person unless for toasting and smores. Thank you to everyone who commented!  Most of us try to reduce waste and reuse or recycle! A few nice Easter traditions were mentioned but the most mentioned was egg coloring and egg hunts. It seems that not many of us have joined in Earth Day yet.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #34 is: #2. Lieder Madchen. Lieder, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 35 QUESTIONS
Okay - these should be fun!
1. What is your shoe size?
I wear 8 1/2 medium for the most comfort. Sometimes a 9.

2. How many pairs of shoes do you own?
These are NOT my shoes but I have similar rows in a spot of my closet that has three tiers for shoes! I have over 52 pairs of shoes.
3. How many do you actually wear regularly?
I found some really weird shoes at this link:

Boy - it is time to clear out my closet! I only wear about 15 pairs out of all of those shoes I have.

Your turn to share: What size shoe do you wear? How many shoes do you have and how many of those do you actually wear?

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 34 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

Interesting responses this past week. Thank you to everyone who participated!  Most of us do not have regular beauty salon visits - much less massage or spa visits! Do you think the fact that we are busy reading and on the internet says something about our priorities? Are we book and computer nerds who disdain fashion? LOL
Mystica reminded me that I like pedicures but I only do that about twice a year too.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #33 is: #19. Jolene (who is lucky to have a sister do her hair *G*). Jolene, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 34 QUESTIONS

1. What is your favorite Easter candy?
Hmmm - I had to really think what qualifies as Easter candy since it's my daughter's turn to celebrate with her kids and we don't have to do baskets anymore. :-) I like the Reece's peanut butter eggs but I think my favorite would be jelly beans.

2. Do you recycle, reuse, and reduce?
We definitely reuse around our house and reduce or conserve on power and paper etc. Having lived on boats and in the RV we have learned to minimize waste where possible. We are not so good on recycling perhaps because we rarely have aluminum cans - not too many soft drinks for us.

3. Do you have any special traditions to celebrate Easter or Earth Day?
I wish I could say we get new dresses but - nope.  I guess our biggest tradition is coloring eggs for the kids. I have to go right now and help my daughter do the eggs! We don't do anything special for Earth Day although we do get trees for Arbor day. :-)

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 33 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

I love the variety in your answers - different cereals and yogurt flavors. :-) Most of us do the healthy thing and eat breakfast ... although I suppose eating bacon and eggs isn't as healthy as eating yogurt would be. Scottsgal reminded me that I did love OHs for a while too. winnie listed a cereal I have never heard of -Vectors. Apparently it is a Kellogg Canada cereal.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #32 is: #8. Carol L. Carol, please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

WEEK 33 QUESTIONS
Oh dear - these are fun sort of. ;-)
1. How often do you go to the hair salon or beauty parlor?
I am really bad about going to the hairdresser. I where my hair in a bob that can also flip up. The length is from chin to shoulders depending on how long between hair cuts, which is usually about four months. I color my hair myself about every 6-8 weeks. My color varies from dark auburn to pomegranate but always some reddish color.

2. Have you ever had a massage?
Yes, I have had maybe three spa type massages that I can remember. One on vacation in Cabos, one on a transatlantic cruise and one by a friend who has a private shop.  Interestingly, the only noncredit course I ever took in college was massage!

3. Have you even been able to enjoy a full day of pampering at a spa?
No, I have never done a full day at a spa. It might be lovely - as long as I could read during the day too... How sick is that!?

Your turn to share: How often do you visit a beauty parlor? Have you ever had a massage? Have you ever had a full day at a spa?

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 32 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

I wasn't sure if people would be too modest to answer last week's questions - guess not. :-)
A greater number of us shower but more bathe or shower in the evening not morning, which surprised me. Tooncesmom's Japanese tub sounds pretty nice.
Not too many hot tubs or pools and even those of us who have pools don't use them as much as we should/could.

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #31 is: #19 TrueBookAddict. TrueBookAddict- please pick a book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired. Or let me know what credit you want or book you want from Book Depository if international.

WEEK 32 QUESTIONS

1. Do you eat breakfast every morning?
I believe eating breakfast is healthy so I try to eat every morning.
Usually bacon and eggs. If not at home then I make an omelet and bacon at the office.

2. What is your favorite breakfast cereal?
I hardly ever eat cereal except for hot cereals like oatmeal, cream of wheat or bran.  I used to like Frosted Flakes as a kid when I could eat all that sugar.  Last time I ate cereal it was Special K - with fruit.

3. What is your favorite brand and flavor of yogurt?
I am not particularly picky about the brand but buy the lower price. I prefer lite varieties.
My favorite flavor is strawberry and banana OR french vanilla with some fruit.
Your turn to share: Do you eat breakfast?; What is your favorite cereal? What is your favorite Yogurt?
