Review:
Brian, a member of the Jackson Commune, continues his character interviews in this episode. The primary character discussed is Blake Gibson, formerly SSgt Gibs. Gibs is a wonderful character and, as Gayou states in the intro, he did his best to make Gibs a true to life Marine Sergeant. Gibs is clearly well read and well spoken but he comes with the full blown rough language of a Marine.

This book provides Gibs the opportunity to tell about the misfit survivors that he gathered in his ‘bus’ as they struggled through Colorado. They scavenged along the way and hoped to find good supplies in Denver but found trouble instead. Gibs describes their losses and harrowing escape before he explains how they ended up in Jackson, Wyoming where he was fortunate to meet Jake, the leader of the commune. In the early days there weren’t outsiders aware of the location of the secluded cabin and surroundings. Once Gibs arrived with his busload of people the occupants grew from three to over twenty. It was important that everyone find a task they could perform to contribute to the community.

The story goes from desperate gun fight to methodical, planning and working toward long term (at least past winter) survival. Some interviews are shared from Amanda and a few others which gives a break from all Gibs. In spite of the potty mouth, I enjoyed the fighting action and the prepper development activities. I am looking forward to book 3. I recommend this book and series to readers who enjoy real to life post-apocalyptic stories.

Audio Notes: R.C. Bray is a great narrator for this work. He captures the voices and personalities of the characters. His narration enhanced the book for me. I plan to continue to listen to the audio versions.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost TEN years I have posted 91 groups of 16 books plus an additional 21 totaling 1,477 books available to find new homes! (As of November 6, 2020).

I am happy to say that so far about 1,354+ books have found new homes through this feature! YAY. [A year or so ago I posted I had reached 2000 books given away. As I calculated the numbers 11/2/17 I realized that had to be an error. I realized I went from 1098 to 2001 instead of 1101. Guess I was tired; sorry for the error.] I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. Review:
Mai and her younger sister, Kira, are fox shifters, also known as kitsune. They have to keep this secret since it is a fact that would condemn them to execution by werewolves who don’t tolerate the kitsune magic. Mai lost her mundane day job so has to rely on her fighting success in the fight cage.

Unfortunately, her run of wins is hurting the betting. Her boss decides to set her up against a new team – werewolves. Gunner, an alpha werewolf, offers Mai a lucrative job if she will help the werewolves find a rogue, brutal killer. Mai needs the work but is reluctant to work so closely with her enemies of her very nature. While she is still contemplated the job another murder occurs and she is drawn in to inspect the scene. It is quickly apparent that the killer is using magical power. Not only that, but the killer has somehow gotten a hold of Mai’s family artifacts that can be used to trigger magic.

Mai is receiving cryptic mind messages from her dead mother while she is trying to discover who has obtained her mother’s magic and is now stalking her. Meanwhile, Mai needs to keep her ‘boyfriend’, a local werewolf, from putting her in the middle of a territorial war with Gunner and his pack. All of her efforts get tangled up, especially when Kira keeps taking actions that endanger the sisters.

I enjoyed the overall plot line and the intrigue of Gunner’s interest in Mai. I was a little frustrated that Kai had not shown more regard for her mother’s heirlooms and also failed to communicate better with her sister regarding their nature. Then there was the bad choices that Mai kept making to sneak away from the werewolves who were trying to trust her. These several elements seemed like major missteps for the primary character although it plays into the action.

The writing is at a level suitable for YAs and adults. I do enjoy shifter characters and I liked the developing relationship between Mai and Gunner. The story ends with danger and a bit of a cliff hanger. I am interested in reading the next book. I recommend this to readers who like shifter stories.

Audio Notes: Piper Goodeve does a good job with the narration. She gives appropriate life to Mai and manages to give the characters distinct voices. I enjoyed the audio listen.

Kid-friendly text full of onomatopoeia and simple international vocabulary makes Chicken Talk Around the World a great read-aloud. Bright, charming illustrations show multigenerational families and chickens in different environments, celebrating cultural diversity; as well as universal elements, such as the special relationships grandmothers have with their grandchildren no matter where they live in the world.

Review:
This charming book shares grandmothers and chickens in at least six countries and languages. It is a lovely book to share with children as you show them how different cultures have much in common even as you share the differences in language, settings, chicken feed and types of chicken.

It is an easy read with bright, engaging illustrations. I would be glad to get this for my grandchildren!

I had another busy week as Heather was out all week with a ruptured eardrum. Besides the pain, she is dizzy and we didn't want her driving the hour+ to work.
Stocks rallied and my portfolio account is at the highest (up 73%!) since I began March 19, 2021. Now I'll be watching to determine if I need to close out or just sit tight with my dividend stocks.

Today I am sharing my March nail treatment - for St. Patrick's Day!

(Just ignore all those wrinkles!)

We had some nice warm days last week. And I remembered to Spring Forward since my hubby changes the clocks on Saturday morning so he can be ready when bedtime rolls around. :-)

I enjoyed all of my reading this week. I finished two audiobooks and one author pdf. I posted three reviews and my usual memes.

I only visited 15 blogs last week.

March 14, 2021 - I love seeing new things each time I read the Bible. I am glad to still be current with morning reading.
I am reading/listening to the NLT Tyndale version of the Bible on You Version App so Hubby and I are reading the same passages each day.
I didn't pick out a new study last week. Maybe this week....

I completed three books and have three reviews to post to stay current.
NetGalley shelf is at 9. (I didn't look last week; maybe this week. :-))
