Sunday Words of Encouragement June 5, 2011

Happy Sunday! We had a visiting missionary who told us a bit about war ravaged Liberia and the ministry that is going forward there. May God bless the effort!
We had baptisms this morning and Pastor reminded us of its importance. "Baptism" comes from the Greek word "baptisma" which means to immerse; to dip under; or to plunge beneath.  We are not saved by baptism - we are saved only by God's Grace and our belief and acceptance of His gift of salvation.  Baptism is an outward acknowledgment of our confession of faith and our acceptance of that gift. We participate in Baptism as we are commanded by God to:
  • Believe that Jesus died for our sins
  • Repent and turn from our wicked ways
  • Confess with our mouths that Christ is our Lord and
  • Be baptized in His name.
Baptism is a meaningful expression of our faith as we publicly die to sin and are born to a new life.

I found this song which is not quite what I was looking for
but a good song anyway.

Verses for Today:
Ephesians 4:4-5
New International Version (NIV)
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

Heaven rejoices and we celebrate with joy for each person saved and each baptism.

The Gentlman Farmer and Blackberries Too!

I am tickled to share how I spent this beautiful Saturday morning!

First I picked blackberries in the side yard. Then I added the container to some of the veggies my DH, aka The Gentleman Farmer, had picked yesterday with our daughter and grandkids.
So here we have: blackberries, yellow squash, red peppers, zucchini, garlic and potatoes.
Here is a peek at The Garden

Photo #1: On the left is the corn, yellow squash and zucchini.
In the right side of picture #1 are tomatoes and next to them a row of peanuts.

Photo #2 On the right are garlic, potatoes,
asparagus, lettuce, carrots, radish,
sweet potatoes and watermelon.

Photo #4
Close Up-
The little green fruit in the middle
is a baby watermelon.

After being in the hot sun taking pictures I headed for the pool.

On the way to the pool
I took a picture of the "manual labor"
aka my DH,
The Gentleman Farmer. :-)

So - I hope everyone else had a nice relaxing Saturday morning.
Tell me - how does your garden grow?

Enquiring Minds - Meme Week 40 PLUS Comment Giveaway + Winner

NOTE - THIS IS THE LAST WEEK OF ENQUIRING MINDS TO BE HOSTED BY DOLLYCAS. HOWEVER I WILL BE CONTINUING A SIMILAR COMMENT FEATURE.
I WILL POST NEXT SATURDAY because that is an easier day for me.
Thank you to those who commented and encouraged continuing!
Next week you can help me pick the name and picture for the event. :-)
I may not do a linky unless there is a big request for that.

Thanks again for your answers last week.  Several of us wanted to meet authors, a few actors and some other interesting figures. Most of us do not have plans fora summer vacation but are planning to summer at home.  Interestingly a few of the favorite TV shows are based on books like Bones (Kathy Reich's Temperance Brennan books) and Game of Thrones. And Jennifer C - we recently watched all of Firefly on Netflix and loved the show!

The Winner from Enquiring Minds Week #39 is: #6 AIK. Aik is across the seas so she will probably choose a GC; otherwise she could try picking a small book from the Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks if desired.

This meme is hosted by Dollycas Thoughts for Thursdays - which are hard for me to make.  The goal is to get to know our fellow bloggers and visitors better. Each week Dolly asks some questions for us to answer and then link up. I am late doing the post but I am trying to to participate as I would like to learn more about blogger and follower friends.

WEEK 40 QUESTIONS

1.  List 3 things the make you happy?

This isn't too hard:
1. Family and friends
2. Reading and blog friends
3. Worshiping

2. If you could change 3 things in the world today what would they be?
This is more difficult.
1. No more wars = peace.
2. No more evil.
3. I thought about no more suffering but we learn so much from our pain;
so I think instead I would like there to be No more hunger.

3. If you had a BILLION dollars list the first 3 things you would do with the money.

After the government gets their piece then
1. Pay off our debt
2. Invest for family
3. Donate to select charities like Project Hope, Cancer research, etc.

Your turn to share: Name three things that make you happy; three things you would change in the world; and/or three things you would do with a Billion dollars.

Enquire Comment Winners can choose a selection from  Valentine and "Love" books or the remaining Christmas Giveaway Books
Rules: a) Must be a follower; b) Share a comment on any (or all) of the three questions above.
