Sharing Beyond Books #127 Comment Giveaway 11/23/13

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

I must apologize for failing to link my giveaways last week. A special thanks to you folks who sought out the post to comment during the week. :-)

I was rather surprised that greater portion of commenters only read one book at a time. There were nine of those which includes three who occasionally read two at a time. Only six of us read more than one at a time and Ricki takes the cake reading 20 books at one time. Not sure how she manages to keep them all straight. :-)

Most of us claim to be good patients although a couple besides me admitted to be cranky sometimes. Natasha stated she was a good patient "always usually." Hmm wonder just what that means. :-) And Mary P has a mother who plays the dying swan whenever she is sick. I bet (hope) Mary's family has lots of patience.

The Winner from SBB #126 comments is: #2 Linda who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #127

Q1. Emily asks: If you disliked a book, would you still take the time to write a negative review? Or would you just give it a bad rating and forget about it??
A: I rarely read a book without doing a review and fortunately I haven't had too many I actually disliked. If I did I would try to give specific reasons why I didn't like it because we all have different tastes. Giving a book a low rating without saying more doesn't really help other readers know what was unpleasant about the book.

Q2. My non-bookish 'Question' this week: It's that time of year to give thanks so please share something(s) you are thankful for.
A: I started thinking I would say lets state one or two things.  But my own list quickly added up so I decided -- no limits!  Here goes: I am thankful for 1) God creating and blessing me2) Family - parents, siblings, spouse, children, grandchildren and extended, including pets. 3) Church Family - they are special. 4) Work - all three businesses. 5) Blog which includes friends in the blogging community and all the books I get to read! 6) Fairly good health - even with the cancer diagnosis it could have been much worse. I could go on but that covers most of it!

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We are getting low on questions so hopefully you will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.

Your turn to share:

  1. I always write reviews of books, whether I finished or not, and liked or not.

I'm thankful everyone in my family is healthy, and that we had the opportunity to move to my husband's hometown this year.

  2. Congrats to Linda.
I think it only fair to take the time to write the review. And I agree we all have different tastes in reading and Authors so if you dislike the book you should explain why in the review.

I am so grateful that me youngest daughter went into remission at age 8 from bone cancer and is now a beautiful 26 year old healthy woman. :)

I'm grateful for my son who is in Special Forces and is back in the USA.
I'm grateful for being blessed with my family and friends that I have.
I'm grateful for waking up everyday. There are many things to be grateful for in my life.

  3. 1. I would write a negative review but also explain why - everyone has their own taste. I don't read several best selling authors because I'm just not a fan of their writing but I wouldn't be negative about them just because I don't care for their writing.

    2. Obviously hubby and kids are at the top of the list along with the 3 furballs. I'm thankful for my family's good health and that we're able to travel several times each year as it's my absolute passion.

  4. 1) generaly if i do read a book i review it it doesn't matter if i loved it or not if if i told someone i would review it i do ( but fortunately so far those i haven't liked were few) now sometimes i don't review a book i've read ( and loved^^) but then i don't even rate it but it's really an exception

    2) a few weeks ago i would have said my family health now with teh situation i'm in i'm not taking that for granted anymore and i'm thankful to be able to help a little and i hope my mother will be better and it's nothing serious ( i would be really grateful then)
i'm more thankful for my family as a whole and yes i include pets ^^( they wouldn't want to be forgotten) but also for the friends i made in the blogging community and the great books i've discovered and those i will read in the futur ( and the list could be a lot longer too but i take pity on my fingers^^)

    take care!

  5. 1 - I don't review many books (generally just those I get thru Goodreads or LibraryThing), but if I didn't like it I feel even more responsible to justify negative comments.
2 - Thankful for may family, my generally good health and for living in the USA

  8. 1. I only write a review if I have enjoyed the book. I'm not a reviewer, but I know authors appreciate it when you can write one.

    2. I am thankful for so many things. All the usuals. Tomorrow I am going up the coast for a holiday - certainly thankful about that.

  13. Q1. Well, I have lots of really good books to review first so those bad ones will be pushed way way back, and I don't know if I'll ever get time to review them.

Q2. I am thankful for my family, friends, and great books!

  14. I would not submit a bad review, however, I would message the author and explain why I would not be submitting it.
