If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost TWELVE years I have posted 91 groups of mostly 16 books plus an additional 21 totaling approximately 1,535 books available to find new homes! (As of November 26, 2021).

I am happy to say that so far at least 1,406 books have found new homes through this feature! YAY. [A year or so ago I posted I had reached 2000 books given away. As I calculated the numbers 11/2/17 I realized that had to be an error. I realized I went from 1098 to 2001 instead of 1101. Guess I was tired; sorry for the error.] I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

Note rules here regarding international entries.
Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors, your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to faraway places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy too. :o)

Repeating this helpful blog tip: You can right click on a link and you will be given the choice to open the link in a new window or tab so you do not navigate away from the screen you are on!! I use this all the time!

Sunday Post October 16, 2022/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday October 17, 2022

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and Storms
I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)
What Are You Reading? is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

The week was another busy one. Tuesday we had our Grand Re-opening and it was very nice. My Pastor came at the beginning to do a dedication prayer of the building and staff .(This was shared with a couple of guests who were early.) We were all exhausted at the end of the day and glad to have that done so we can concentrate on work again!

Wednesday I was trying to reset my default gmail account and managed to lock myself out of the mesreads account until I could re-access on Saturday.

Thursday afternoon I had a late evidentiary hearing and then my assistant and I headed out to Alabama for a day of industry classes on Friday. Heather got there a bit earlier.

Here is a picture of our charcuterie board (almost set up) that my assistant put together.
If she wasn't heading to law school next year I think she'd make a great event planner!
It was very yummy.

I continue with my previous prayer lists.

We finally had rain- Wednesday afternoon and evening when it down poured.
We are actually supposed to get night temps in the mid 30s this week. Day temps will start in the low to mid 80s, and then drop into the 60s at the end of the week.

This week I finished three audios I enjoyed. I posted two reviews at the end of the week and my regular Memes.

I visited only 12 blogs last week.
No shout out again this week.

Audible offerings for free children's titles ended June 30, 2021.
Audiobooks.com is still sharing some free listens for children.

These were the posts last week:

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his humorous investigating team return in Santa's Little Yelpers, the next Yuletide mystery in David Rosenfelt’s bestselling series.
'Tis the season in Paterson, New Jersey: Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his golden retriever, Tara, are surrounded by holiday cheer. It’s even spread to the Tara Foundation. The dog rescue organization, not used to having puppies, has their hands full with a recent litter. Eight puppies are a lot to handle, and Andy is relieved when his co-worker Chris Myers agrees to foster them.
Myers, a newer employee at the Tara Foundation, did time for a crime he swears he didn’t commit. When Myers discovers a key witness against him lied on the stand, he goes to Andy to ask for representation in getting the conviction overturned. Myers thinks they can have this wrapped up by Christmas, no problem.
But when the witness is murdered, and Myers is arrested for the crime, things go from bad to worse. Suddenly, it’s all elves on deck to make a list and check it twice, so they can prove Myers is innocent.

Sunday Words of Encouragement October 16, 2022 - Encounter God.

Our Sunday School teacher shared a message explaining how much God, the Father, loved the Bride (the church). He made a way to reconcile corrupted man through the sacrifice of His own son. It is an ongoing process to become sanctified but ultimately believers will return to share in the millennial reign while God gets the earth ready so He can finally dwell with the sanctified believers here on earth.

We enjoyed the move of the Spirit while worshiping God in the church. Pastor then shared a sermon based on Hebrews 4:16 and titled “A Pattern for Encountering God.

You can look at the Lord's Prayer as a model. Also, the Tabernacle Prayer. Exodus.
Christ announced that the Tabernacle should be a House of Prayer. Along with this, the church people should be People of Prayer.

The Tabernacle was made up of three main parts: The Outer court, the Holy Place, and the Holy of Holies. Each location brings the worshiper closer to the manifest presence of God, who resided in the Holy of Holies.

As we enter the gate or doors, we begin to praise. “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.”’ Psalm 100.

Then enter the Holy Place. Then holy of holies.
God wants to have encounters with us. He invites us. We can come with confidence, boldness.

In the Holy Place we repent of our sins. Sacrifice at the altar is a reminder of our sin. A price has been paid for our sin. We express our appreciation for the price Christ paid. Christ’s Blood is about covenant... relationship. The believer is being sanctified. We need to clean at the basin (laver) where we wash our hands but truly we need to be submerged in the Word. Here we pray “Search me and cleanse me.” Psalms 139:23-24.
“Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10-15.

As the Believer moves towards the Holy of Holies, they should be hungering for an encounter with God, seeking to feast on Jesus’ character and nature. John 6:35. As we spend time in the Word, we surrender and become more Spirit led. We need to be not just Spirit filled but Spirit led.

As we reach the inner lamp of incense there is a good fragrance rising to please God. Pray that you know God well enough that you know what He likes to hear in your praises and see in your attitude.

The Ark is where the mercy seat is located. It is the most intimate connection.
Isaiah 6:1-8 tells us: I saw the Lord on the throne and the seraphim called out “Holy, Holy, Holy. We encounter the Holy God and He speaks to us.
We pray that He will make His presence known to us. In the intimate place of worship, God shows up.
3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3.

As often happens, I went looking for one song video and found another.
I love how this video speaks of God’s love for us.
I hope you will read the scriptures while listening to God’s Love Letter.
Psalm 51:10-15 NIV
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
so that sinners will turn back to you.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
you who are God my Savior,
and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 Open my lips, Lord,
and my mouth will declare your praise.

God, I give thanks that you created me and called me to salvation. Please help me walk with Your Spirit everyday.

Audible Book Review: A Borrowing of Bones, a Mercy Carr Mystery by Paula Munier

This is a good mystery with the plus of dogs.
A Borrowing of Bones
A Mercy Carr Mystery
By: Paula Munier
Narrated by: Kathleen McInerney

A Borrowing of Bones Audiobook By Paula Munier cover art

Length: 11 hrs and 58 mins
Release date: 09-11-18
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genre: Police Procedure, Search Dogs, Women Sleuth
My Rating: 4.0 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.0; Narration 4.0.

Publisher's Summary
The first in a gripping new series by Paula Munier, A Borrowing of Bones is full of complex twists, introducing a wonderful new voice for mystery listeners and dog lovers alike.
Grief and guilt are the ghosts that haunt you when you survive what others do not....
After their last deployment, when she got shot, her fiancé, Martinez, got killed, and his bomb-sniffing dog, Elvis, got depressed, soldier Mercy Carr and Elvis were both sent home, her late lover’s last words ringing in her ears: “Take care of my partner.”
Together, the two former military police - one 29-year-old two-legged female with wounds deeper than skin and one handsome five-year-old four-legged Malinois with canine PTSD - march off their grief mile after mile in the beautiful remote Vermont wilderness.
Even on the Fourth of July weekend, when all of Northshire celebrates with fun and frolic and fireworks, it’s just another walk in the woods for Mercy and Elvis - until the dog alerts to explosives and they find a squalling baby abandoned near a shallow grave filled with what appear to be human bones.
US Game Warden Troy Warner and his search-and-rescue Newfoundland, Susie Bear, respond to Mercy’s 9-1-1 call, and the four must work together to track down a missing mother, solve a cold-case murder, and keep the citizens of Northshire safe on potentially the most incendiary Independence Day since the American Revolution.
It’s a call to action Mercy and Elvis cannot ignore, no matter what the cost.

Review:
Mercy was a military police investigator but was sent home after being wounded. Her fiancé, a dog handler, was killed and Mercy fought to take home his traumatized dog, Elvis, who suffers from PTSD. They have been keeping to themselves and taking long walks in the Vermont wilderness. On the July Fourth weekend they stumble upon a crying baby and a shallow grave.

US Game Warden Troy Warner and his search and rescue dog Susie Bear, arrive in response to the 911 call. They begin to track the missing mother and Warner begins to investigate the cold case death. The local detective is antagonistic to both Warner and Mercy. He treats the Game Warden with disdain and wants them both away from his case.

Technically Mercy has no basis to continue involvement in the investigations, but she won’t back off, especially after the baby disappears from the hospital and the teen mother and baby show up at her home only to be scared off. Bit by bit the investigation by Warner and Mercy leads to a potential domestic terrorism threat that could cause community deaths. They are in a race against time and even the dogs are being threatened as a result of their persistent efforts.

I enjoyed these characters, their dogs and their interactions. The dogs quickly become friends and slowly Warner and Mercy develop a friendship. I felt there were some shortcomings of the book such as not treating the issue of PTSD seriously enough and the fact that Mercy kept pushing into the investigation with no authority. Still, I found the book entertaining and will be listening to more in the series. I recommend this to mystery, crime thriller fans who like search dogs.

Audio Notes: Kathleen McInerney delivers fitting energy but didn’t have strong voices, especially for the male characters. I think a stronger narrator might have added more. I am glad I got the audio version as it goes faster for me than reading.

I love books. I'm glad the spooky characters do too.
