Pastor's online message this morning was from Luke 24. Jesus bore our sin on the cross. He conquered death and rose in glory! We cannot find help in the things of this dying world. We can only find healing and life through the redeeming blood of our Risen Lord.
What do you turn to for help, hope or purpose?

but in the end it leads to death.

Stop looking among the dead.

Review:
Robin is now an outlaw with a small group of followers: John, the big warrior, Tuck, the excommunicated monk, Will, the brother of his heart, and Alis, the lady who learned to fight to survive. The group has rallied around Robin even though he is still trying to figure out how to lead and what to do. His friends have aliases to protect their true identities when in the villages. Now they are toying with giving Robin his own alias.

Each of the characters apparently has a sad history that has landed them together. This novella focuses on Robin’s history through flash-backs to some of the heart-breaking traumas in his past. This occurs while the group faces a bleak Christmas Eve. They are aware that the Sheriff’s men have raided the surrounding villages taking a toll in not only taxes but holiday feasts. Are Robin and his friends willing to risk their lives to retake the bounty and return it to the people?

I enjoy retellings and found this to be a quick, engaging read. I enjoyed the extra development of the characters as well as the action scenes. While staying consistent with the legend that we know, the author provides intrigue and humor in arriving at the famous name. I recommend this to readers who enjoy retellings.

Christ Shed His Blood For You and Me

I had planned to post this in the morning but didn't get the schedule set properly. I still feel it is worth posting.

Some of the images are difficult as they are from the movie The Passion of Christ.
I find this to be a stunning reminder.
I hope people took some time today to reflect on the sacrifice made by our Lord and Savior.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost NINE years I have posted 88 groups of 16 plus an additional 21 totaling 1,429 books to find new homes! (as of November 8, 2019).

I am happy to say that so far about 1,308+ books have found new homes through this feature! YAY. [A year or so ago I posted I had reached 2000 books given away. As I calculated the numbers 11/2/17 I realized that had to be an error. I realized I went from 1098 to 2001 instead of 1101. Guess I was tired; sorry for the error.] I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors, your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to faraway places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. Review:
Magic is supposed to be hidden from the public with the help of the Ministry of Occultism. Then an alien species from a side dimension arrives in the countryside to seek asylum. It seems that whenever the gelatinous, slimy masses came into the country alone they were quickly killed. Now a group of the Fluidics have gotten into the public eye and become popular, but not with everyone. The aliens are a hive group, all with the name Shoggoth, and someone is continuing to track them to murder them.

Now that the Ministry of Occultism has been exposed, they are separated from their original mysterious leaders, the Hand of Merlin, and moved into a new department. The handful of quirky agents are tasked with finding the murderer and saving the image of the magical community. It isn’t easy with the stumbling agents. The ever-controlling office manager pairs Alison, a young, brand new agent who has a photographic memory, with a mistrusted insane magician, Diablory. The other pair of agents has been a long-time team, one with enhanced senses and the other with fire powers, who banter like immature schoolboys.

The new director adds another cog when he introduces a social-minded phycologist, Dr. Pavani, to work with Adam, a young student who is possessed by an Ancient. Dr. Pavani insists that the Fluidics and the “Dual Consciousness” must be treated with political kindness, although much of the time her attitudes are ridiculous too.

Alison does her best to use her memorized facts to help Shoggoth, her ‘own’ aide, and the group generally. She is also trying to protect Adam’s sister so she won’t get returned to the ministry controlled schools for the magical. Alison, the twisted Diablory, and the other agents pursue each lead with a few red herrings to keep the searching interesting.

The story is full of humor and satire. The Fluidics/Shoggoths are a likable species for slime creatures! There are clues to the identity of the killer, but the truth hides until close to the end. The listen didn’t move along as quickly as I thought it might which I contribute to some level of disorientation and fatigue I am experiencing with the stresses of coping with the times of coronavirus. If you enjoy fantasy, magical zaniness with a good whodunnit, I recommend this story to you.

Audio Notes: The author, Yahtzee Croshaw, serves as the narrator and who better to capture and portray the quirks of the characters? The narration is engaging and fitting to the characters. I enjoyed Shoggoth even though you have to listen closely to understand his/their lisping speech. I enjoyed the audio experience which enhanced the reading for me.
