Review:
Dr. Bob Cassidy is a caring, country doctor. He hasn’t deserved the troubles of malpractice suits brought against him but, in the nature of court proceedings, sometimes the insurance companies settle just to avoid the cost of going to trial.

Dr. Bob didn’t get to complete his residency because he returned home to care for his parents. He was accepted by the local community hospital because his father was one of the founding doctors. Bob has taken over the family practice which is run out of their rustic but impressive home which sits in a beautiful, prime spot in the hills of Pennsylvania, above the local community.

Bob is frustrated by the hospital system he has to work within. The local hospital is controlled by a corrupt and greedy chief doctor and his cronies who care more about their golf games and money than the care of the patients. The greedy managers have brought on board a scary group of inept physicians with a goal of making money rather than helping the sick.

Bob is required to take his turn handling the emergency room and he watches over his own patients when they have to be admitted. But Bob recognizes the uncaring, ineptitude of the other doctors and the outdated and inadequate equipment at the hospital. He wishes he could go elsewhere but he can’t leave home nor find other work without his full residency time.

One evening a beautiful woman appears at Bob’s doors seeking treatment for a painful toe. He encourages her to see a doctor in Scranton, where she lives. She refuses to go to her own town or to the local hospital. She finally tells him why she can’t go there in order to convince him to test her and treat her. Angela is a top malpractice lawyer, known as the "Angel of Death" in legal circles due to her persistent and successful skills winning malpractice cases against doctors and hospitals.

As the daily, painful treatments proceed, Bob and Angela reveal their emotional struggles, pains and dreams while they fall in love. Everything is going well until an incident causes Angela to re-injure her toe. The injury is severe and she is rushed to the hospital where one disaster after another nearly results in her death. Now the queen of malpractice has her eyes set on the hospital and every doctor there, including Bob.

This story is eerie, frustrating, frighteningly and disgustingly real – full of greed and corruption both private and in the Medicare bureaucracy. Sadly, I suspect that this fiction could be all too real. I really enjoyed the characters of Bob and Angela. The story is well written although there were some tense errors that needed editing. That was only a minor distraction as I liked the plot and the twists that made for engaging reading. I recommend this to readers who like a mystery and who can stomach reading about corruption in the medical system.

Happy Friday!
Friday again as another month bites the dust! DH and I headed out in the middle of the night/morning (4am) to get to the hospital for his stint surgery this morning. We went to bed expecting rain and a little wind but hurricane Hermine passed east of us so little impact here. We are saying prayers for those who will be impacted by more rain and flooding, heavy winds and storm surge along the coasts.
(I think the choices are getting lower and I hope to pull another box this week.)

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost six years I have posted 62 groups of 16 (992) books to find new homes! (as of November 6, 2015).

I am happy to say that so far about 995+ books have found new homes! YAY. I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy too. :o)

Review:
Concordia is back to her normal duties as a lady professor but under a new Lady Principal who has been nicknamed “ogre” by the students. The woman clearly doesn’t like Concordia and takes away long time assignments and gives her secondary positions, such as moving her from director of the student play to assistant under a math teacher who has never had experience directing a performance. The continual insults from the Lady Principal take second place though to a theft of an Egyptian artifact recently donated to the museum. The donor is the father of Concordia’s best friend, Sophia. When he is found murdered the younger daughter is traumatized into silence by finding the bloody body. Not even the Police Detective believes Sophia when she confesses to the crime.

Concordia of course is intent on proving her friend innocent. She soon learns that the dead man had once been a partner of Concordia’s own father when they searched for artifacts in Egypt. Details that Concordia never knew and her mother continues to refuse to discuss. Instead, Concordia’s mother has gotten herself involved with a physic whose séance results in Concordia’s father speaking to her!

The Lady Principal is a character that you like to dislike, causing Concordia to seek help from the Dean and the President of the college. There is plenty of intrigue and multiple suspects as well as surprising twists. I enjoyed the friendship between Concordia and David which is continuing to grow, especially after a misunderstanding is cleared up.

This is the second story in the series and I recommend reading/listening to them in order to better know the supporting characters and the friendships and tensions that exist. I enjoyed this one even more than the first and it makes me want to hear more adventures/misadventures for Concordia. I recommend this to readers who enjoy character driven mystery.

Audio Notes: Becket Royce does another good job narrating this historical mystery. She manages the various voices with clear distinction. The narration enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

I received this audio book from the narrator for an honest review. This qualifies for my Audio Challenge and "U" in Alphabet Soup Challenge.

Review:
Tiffany Mills keeps to herself although she has a secret connection to the small town of Eagle Cove. Injuries from her past have made her extremely cautious around people so she has been taking her time becoming a true member of the community. Yet they continue to draw her in, treating her as a friend and accepting her silence until she is ready to share.

Devin has just come to town to found most everyone busy in a double wedding. He has escaped a bad experience in high society Chicago and is ready for some time in a quiet, unpretentious town. What he didn’t expect was to find is a beautiful, shy young woman who has as many talents as she has defenses. He is willing to give Tiffany time to warm to him but he isn’t beyond creating opportunities to spend time with her.

Tiffany begins to open up with Devin as the town folk watch carefully, simultaneously encouraging him while threatening to take him down if he hurts her. The town eccentrics, a Yurt dwelling (complete with goats) and the FlamEagle Festival add natural enchantment to an already delightful romance.

I loved this story from beginning to end. The author provides a warm depth as both main characters grow closer with their quiet strengths, sweet humors and warm chemistry. Other strong, and sometimes quirky, characters add charm to the community that wants to embrace, and protect, Tiffany. There are work and life details that enrich the story and are never boring. The small town dynamics are beautifully portrayed and the whole story is solid, charming romance. I was pleased that it didn’t need any heavy sex to make it appealing. There is fun banter among the town folk and a few gentle love scenes which were just perfect in my opinion.

I have enjoyed Mr. Buchman’s romantic suspense and at least one other small town romance (Where Dreams Are Born). This story clinches for me that his books should be on my automatic buy list. Although this is book 4 in the series it read fine as a stand-alone. I have not looked to see which characters were in the prior books but I am thinking their stories would be just as delightful. Readers who like engaging romance, and don’t need the steamy side, won’t want to miss this story.

I am thankful to have received this title from the publisher for an honest review. Release date 8/30.
