I have finally updated the intro and Entry paragraphs here:

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in four years I have posted 43 groups of 16 (688) books to find new homes! (as of November 2013).

I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want! I am happy to say that so far about 629+ books have found new homes! YAY. I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed.

Note rules here regarding international entries.

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $5.00 $7.00 and $6.00 $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy too. :o)

Review:
Howard Collyer is known for two things in his life. In college, even though an unexceptional football kicker, he “nailed” a last minute kick that brought the team victory. Then he became a weapons specialist working in the Pentagon with a relatively unexceptional career except for the fact that he was obsessed with the problem of nuclear bombs lost in the 1950s and 1960s. These lost bombs have been termed as sleeping dogs because the powers that be at the Pentagon have determined they should just leave them alone, trusting that any danger is decaying over time.

Collyer was quietly pushed out of the Pentagon since no one wanted to deal with his harping on the nuclear issues they wanted to keep quiet. He maintains a website called Sleeping Dogs that has placed estimated locations of many of the lost bombs and a wealth of information regarding the types of bombs and the history of why they were lost or dropped.

VA Nurse Sharon Thorsen has been visiting with a cheery, if confused, patient, Major Risstup. Sharon is a bit alarmed when the Major starts talking about a lost bomb. She becomes more distressed when she comes in one morning to find the Major's medication changed to a dose that would kill him. Sharon discovers Collyer's Sleeping Dogs website through an internet search and calls Collyer on Thanksgiving day to request his help to protect the Major.

Collyer races to help Sharon kidnap Major Risstup, triggering a hide and seek chase from more enemies than they realize. A silent “undercover” division at the Pentagon, known as Vector Eleven, has been monitoring Collyer's activities and seeks to shut down any noise or activities that would bring attention to the nuclear issues. If that means eliminating the parties with information that is just considered a cost of doing business.

Collyer, Sharon and Major Risstup are hiding from the threat of their own government secret agency while trying to coax the Major's brain into remembering the location where the bomb was dropped. Their danger increases when an Al Queda cell group, who has also been following Collyer's site, realizes there is activity and sends out a prepared terrorist team to obtain and detonate the bomb.

Collyer is fortunate to be getting some security back-up from his old college roommate, a CIA agent who is a former overseas spy/spook. Winston Straub is willing to help Collyer especially if it means a chance to give a black eye to the Pentagon. When things begin to escalate Straub recruits the help of the head of Homeland Security who is also eager to pin a bad mark on the Pentagon.

This story has a great plot and excellent suspense. I was anxious to turn the story back on each time I could. There is good character development and disturbing, though sadly likely, enmity between the governmental agencies. As the agencies try to out maneuver each other there is the fear that not cooperating could result in even worse damage. Another disturbing aspect is that the leaders seem a bit surprised that terrorists would be following Collyer's website so closely. That is scarily naïve as even I am alarmed to think of all the bomb building and evil activities easily available on the internet.

This is a first rate thriller and I highly recommend it to those who enjoy good suspense!

Review:
Isabelle Lindley is a mostly proper Vicar’s daughter. She is certainly caring and kind-hearted even if she does have a bit of a mischievous streak. Isabelle has been hiding in the secret rooms of the unoccupied Canderlay Manor since her cottage was burned and she escaped into the woods. Isabelle used to live in the Manor with her beloved uncle and she is aided now by the old caretaker, Samuels, who is helping her until she comes of age to collect her inheritance.

Morgan Spence has always dreamed of purchasing back the manor that was his childhood home. Now that he has succeeded he stops by to access the condition of the old estate. It is a dark, stormy night and he isn’t sure if the lights he sees flickering in the Manor are real or the result of rumored ghosts. Checking more closely he stumbles upon evidence of an intruder but is startled into falling over a banister when he turns to find a ghostly apparition.

Morgan’s friend and brother-in-law, Bartholomew, chalks it up to a night of drink but Morgan is convinced that someone is hiding, especially when he begins to smell roses in certain rooms. Morgan is glad to take the old caretaker on as his house servant and more delighted to discover that Samuels is cook, groom, foreman and able to fill most other positions too.

Morgan is concerned about finances to repair and refurnish the home and plans to marry an heiress to make up the funds he will need. Although his head-strong sister, Margaret, shows up with furnishings to fill the house he still feels he will have to repay her.

Belle finds it hard to remain hidden and when she is discovered, Margaret recognizes her and knows something is wrong. Morgan isn’t ready to trust the minx but begins to fall for her sweet innocence and caring nature. When Belle is threatened again a story of bribery and murder orchestrated by a man of the ton is slowly revealed. But they dare not accuse a nobleman without clear, strong evidence.

Isabelle is a delightful character with a wonderful mix of naivete and stubborn determination. Morgan is practical and warm. The behavior, as well as the pairing, of Belle and Morgan makes for many smiles and chuckles. The villains are quite properly nasty and I enjoyed the action as the mystery was unraveled. This reads smoothly with it’s engaging characters and mysterious plot. It is one of those stories that I was eager to read but sad to finish. I have enjoyed all of Ms. Julian’s books which have likable characters, a good plot with some suspense and a wonderful sense of warmth. I highly recommend these historical romances!

Review:
Charley is worrying that Reyes may be responsible for several building fires. Although no one has been injured she recognizes the locations have a connection to Reyes’ past. While she is trying to avoid Reyes he is busy remodeling the apartment at the end of her floor to move in!

One morning Charley discovers a dirt covered blond little girl under her bed. The ghost is clearly frightened and Charley is unable to get her to speak. Soon there are a multitude of dirty, blond female ghosts cowering in every corner of Charley's apartment.

Meanwhile Charley has a visit by the spirit a nurse who claims there is a body under an old bridge out of town. As Charley follows this line she is surprised when she meets the nurse who is actually alive but has a history of prophetic dreams. As a serial killer begins to be revealed Charley gets frightened that her own sister may be the next target.

There is plenty of mystery and action to keep this moving along and interesting. There is also renewed contact between Charley and Reyes for those who crave the romance elements. There are still the fun chapter headings - snarky t-shirt and bumper sticker sayings. There is also good interaction among the regular characters, Charley's team of friends. There is some rough language but it passes quickly. This is a fast listen in a fun series and I look forward to more adventures.

I actually missed last week's What Are You Reading due to the three days sleep-in recovering from Chemo #2. Finally started being almost normal again by Friday! So this will cover two weeks reading which is actually normal, about three books a week even though I was so "under the weather."  On the other hand I am now further behind in posting reviews since I lost five days with no postings.

Line Edits: We are now finalizing formatting for two ebook re-releases, as well as working on a new children's release.

I am still enjoying reading books from my own TBR. :-) My reading/listening is going along well but I have fallen behind in reviews due to being out of commission for several days. 
My backlog for review is now seven so I hope to do four or five reviews this week to catch up.
