Sunday, November 21, 2010

It's Monday! What are you Reading November 22, 2010?

This meme starts at One Person's Journey Through A World of Books!

What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I only finished two books this week. (The Forever Queen was big enough to count as two.) I posted three Reviews, one ARC Giveaway and a Follower Giveaway.

As noted before,  for this feature I will only be giving a rating and a short summary comment on books I read from my TBRs or as fillers - which aren't many :).

I did get to visit at least ten other Monday posts this week.

These were last week's posts plus Winner posts not listed.
Finished Reading:
PB and (Kindle):
The Forever Queen

The Forever Queen: Sometimes, a desperate kingdom is in need of one great woman by Helen Hollick. The review and ARC Giveaway are linked above.

PB:  Synarchy Book 2: The Ascension by D.C.S..  This was the second book and I really enjoyed both. I will post the review and a Giveaway on November 24th.
Product Description
Synarchy Book 2: The Ascension"We're villains, as much as we are capable of being heroes..." A lifetime ago, Stefano Vasco Terenzio saw one way to maneuver his family into a game of betrayal against an unbeatable enemy; walking into a bullet. A generation later, what started with one man's ego will determine the fate of the whole word. For centuries The Brotherhood and their Gods, the Anunnaki have hidden in plain sight among us. For centuries they have lied, sacrificed man by the thousands, and manipulated humanity into their service. As the clock ticks closer to December 21st, 2012, they will stop at nothing to keep their control of planet Earth. In the thrilling sequel to Synarchy Book 1: The Awakening, the end is only the beginning. Secrets emerge that will challenge the core of everything you think you believe. All the while a team of scientists must make sense out of the fantastical, and the tenuous link holding together the one family that can save humankind, shatters.

Currently reading:
Print:  The Taming of the Wolf by Lydia Dare.  I will start this tonight.
The Taming of the WolfSourcebooks Description:
Lord Dashiel Thorpe has fought his true nature his entire life, but whenever the moonlight proves too powerful, Dashiel is unable to control the werewolf within him. It is on one such moonlit night that Dashiel accidentally bites the beautiful Scottish witch, Caitrin McLeod. Though now bound to him irrevocably, Cait decides that she wants nothing to do with him. When she flees to her native Scotland, Dashiel has no choice but to follow her and convince her that it was nothing short of destiny that has bound them together body and soul.

City of Glass (Mortal Instruments)Audible:
City of Glass (Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare. It seems fine that I am reading the third  book although there are some facts missing. I am enjoying this.
Product Description
To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that enter-ing the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Times best-selling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.

Audio:  Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue. This is a Hachette Audiobook for review and Giveaway. This is very different as the narration is by the child.  I am very interested  what will happen.Room: A Novel
To five-year-old Jack, ROOM is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.

ROOM is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough…not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, one that relies on her young son's bravery and a lot of luck. What she does not realize is just how unprepared she is for the plan to actually work.

Line Edits:  I did get one book released this week and I am still working on three others. Then I'll start on more edits.

Upcoming books:
PR:  Devil's Desire by Laurie McBain. I have received this for review from Sourcebooks.

Kindle:  While the Savage Sleeps by Andrew E. Kaufman. I am reading and reviewing this for the author.

Enquiring Minds Want to Know Meme Week 12

This meme is hosted by Dollycas Thoughts for Thursdays - which are hard for me to make.  The goal is to get to know our fellow bloggers and visitors better. Each week Dolly asks some questions for us to answer and then link up. I am late doing the post but I am trying to to participate as I would like to learn more about blogger and follower friends.
You don’t have to be a blogger to participate either. I will be using a Linky List for the blogs to use to participate and follow each other around to get to know each other, but if you are not a blogger just answer the questions in the comment section following the post on your favorite blog. Please feel free to click on the links and visit other blogs too.

This way we not only get to know other bloggers,
we get to know our followers too.
I am really excited about this meme
and hope many more people will join the fun!!!!!

WEEK 12 QUESTIONS
1.  Do/did your kids or grandkids take part in sports organized by school or recreation departments?
I was a swimmer; my son and daughter were in gymnastics and Matt even went as high as 3rd in SE Division before he shot up in height and stopped doing gymnastics.  Our 61/2 year old grandson has done softball and now soccer this year. Our almost 3 year old granddaughter was doing a little bit of dance but she likes gymnastics better.
(This IS JoJo - she is a doll.)
2.  Were you involved in any sports while growing up?
I was a swimmer in highschool - backstroke and relay.
(this is not me)
3.  How are you planning to spend Thanksgiving?
DH wants to trek us down (food and all) to our A Frame for a Thanksgiving day with nature and a sleepover.  It would be hubby and me, our daughter and her husband and the two grandchildren. Our daughter then wants to drag me out at 3 in the morning to go an hour to the mall for Black Friday shopping. AARGH!
DH has all the A Frame pictures and he is sleeping right now; maybe I'll get one later.

Sunday Words of Encouragement November 21, 2010

This morning our Pastor gave a wonderful message on Thankfulness.  He noted that to experience peace requires a thankful heart attitude. He pointed out Job's attitude when he lost everything. Job acknowledged that he came into the world naked and would leave naked. He accepted that God gives and has the right to take away. Job 1:13-22.

Pastor also mentioned the life of Martin Rinkart in 1637 who became an ArchBishop and served a community in the middle of the 30 year war. Though they lost 4,000+ people to plague, he still wrote the Hymn "Now Thank We All our God."

We must learn to Praise God in the good and the bad.

Verses for today:
Job 1:20-21 (NIV)
20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
   and naked I will depart.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised."

I pray that this week, as you prepare for Thanksgiving Day, you will recognize cause to say to God: "much obliged" for all the blessings He has bestowed.
