I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)?
What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I had a busy week covering closings for my daughter as she was out with an infection.
I have two large commercial closings this week so I will be concentrating on these.
The new contractor confirmed that they are waiting for an inspection by the insurance company. Below are pictures of the office ready to be rebuilt.
We have decided to keep this left lobby wall as brick. They will remove more plaster up to the ceiling level and then clean the underlying brick.
This is looking from the lobby to the back of the office. They had to add pillars for support on the right until they add the new steel supports.
We plan to do a curved reception desk along the right wall.
Our weather is still hot and wet. It looks like we will have some rain from Marco this week. We are praying both storms dissipate rather than hit anywhere as hurricanes.
We are praying too for California and the devastating fires there. :-(
I enjoyed the books I read/listened to this week. My old kindle remains frozen. I was able to continue reading on my Fire Kindle although it is frustrating since it takes 3-4 minutes just to get the unit on, open the book, and find the correct chapter. I finished two audios and one ebook. It was a light posting week with only one review and my usual memes.
I visited 17 blogs last week.
Shout Out this week to In Wonderland Book Blog. Stephanie and Lizzie share blog fun and reviews primarily in YA/NA genres.
Don't forget- Audible is offering free children's titles during these days at home.
Audiobooks.com is also offering free listens for children.

Dodge & Twist
An Audible Original Drama
By: Tony Lee
Narrated by: Matt Lucas, Stephen Mangan, Michael Socha, Kara Tointon
Length: 4 hrs and 56 mins
Release date: 12-12-18
This is a fun production listen.
Source: 2/23/19 Free Audible Original.
It’s rumored that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist—to bring Oliver back as an older character—but never managed this before he died. If Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood effect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger,’ sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver?
Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives—for both good and bad.
This Audible Original production of Dodge & Twist is fully dramatized with an immersive SFX soundscape and is performed by a full cast including Stephen Mangan as Charles Dickens (Green Wing, Episodes, I'm Alan Partridge), Matt Lucas as Fagin (Little Britain, Me, Bridesmaids, Alice in Wonderland), Kara Tointon (Eastenders, Mr Selfridge, The Sound of Music Live) and Michael Socha (Being Human, This is England). Will Howard and James Joyce portray Oliver and Dodger.

Woof
Written By: Spencer Quinn
Narrated By: James Frangione
Duration: 7 h 5 min
I have been looking at this series for a while.
This is starting out fun.
Source: 10/29/2019 Audiobooks.com 2 for 1 Deal.
Summary:
"Spencer Quinn speaks two languages--suspense and dog--fluently."--Stephen King
Bowser is a dog detective on the loose, paired with an eleven-year-old girl, Birdie. Bowser and Birdie live on the Louisiana coast with Birdie's Grammy. When a prize stuffed marlin is stolen from Grammy's bait and tackle shop, Birdie and Bowser decide to take on the case. But what looks like a straightforward break-in soon becomes as tangled as a tourist's fishing line. Was Grammy hiding a treasure map in the marlin? What's up with Old Man Straker, owner of a rival tackle shop, and his juvenile delinquent son? And most sinister of all, why does it suddenly look as if someone wants to harm Birdie? Told entirely from Bowser's hilarious dog point of view, WOOF launches a brand-new, slightly slobbery, but utterly winning detective duo.

I imagine I will pick up a sci-fi audio next. Just not sure which one.
I'm keeping track of my Alphabet here as I finish the books. These are the letters that remain:
NETGALLEY: H M U X Y and Z
AUDIO: X and Z
August 23, 2020 - I remain caught up on daily reading. I need to be in the word every day. I am again enjoying the devotions and readings with the One Year Bible plan through You Version App. I considered changing but this is the reading group that is closest to my husband's reading so we can sometimes discuss the same passages.
I haven't picked a new study yet.
I completed three books and posted one review, remaining up to date.
My NetGalley shelf is at 2, plus the four titles from 2012-13 which I still hope to read this year.
I'm resisting adding any more NetGalley titles until I get some of my review titles done. I still have one carry over author ebook left. I have two audiobooks from authors. I feel good getting caught up on these books.
Still many titles through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.
Welcome to Mailbox Monday.
Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Leslie of Under My Apple Tree, Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists. No new review books this week.
I still have to check the email requests I have been receiving. {Sigh.}
I picked up one VIP free book at audiobooks.com ; purchased one Chirp title for $3.99; and purchased one Audible at discount. I still have credits at Audiobooks.com which I think I will be saving until September.
I added 11 free Kindle titles this week.
(Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.) Are your mailbox and TBR piles blooming?

ReplyDeleteDodge & Twist sounds intriguing. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI hope it goes well with the insurance company and the remodel is finished quickly, it looks like a great space.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Wow that looks like a lot of work. Good luck! You have some interesting reads. By the by I love it when you get the kindle version for free and then the narration add on is like a 1.99 or so. :)
ReplyDeleteWoof looks like a fun read.
ReplyDeleteI hope the inspection happens soon and construction can continue!
Wow, good luck with all those construction projects. Sorry about the Kindle. I don’t use mine often because I don’t like fighting with it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Commercial real estate is such an odd animal to me. I sometimes get involved in it, but I find residential so much easier.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your Kindle. How inconvenient. That's how I ended up with a new device, but all the PDFs that were on the old Kindle are stored on my computer now.
Dodge & Twist sound great. I wanted to catch the movie The Man Who Invented Christmas, which is about Dickens going through a writing block and how he ended up writing A Christmas Carol.
Hope you have a nice week. Thanks for visiting my blog.
I really enjoy John Heldt's books. I've been listening to a lot more audiobooks recently.
ReplyDeleteThe SciFi anthology looks like a good one to dip into. Enjoy.
