Sunday Post August 16, 2020/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday August 17, 2020

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and StormsI am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)?
What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Thankfully, my staff member tested negative for Covid19. Her husband has been permitted to return to work so she returned to our office late in the week.
Meanwhile, my assistant stayed home ill for a few days and then the rest of the week with ill children.
My work is a little behind with files waiting on her desk for efiling, invoicing and mailing. I know she'll catch up quickly.

I have to call the new contractor early this week to see if they are getting an inspection by the insurance company.

I was able to get several pictures of this pretty butterfly on the zinnias that returned in our planter.
These were taken through a french door window and cropped to be larger so they are not as clear as I'd like.

We continue to have hot days and rain that leaks in the temporary office. :-(

I enjoyed the books I was reading/listening to this week. Sadly I dropped my kindle and it is frozen. So I have to download The Lane Betrayal to one of my other tablets so I can finish it.  I only finished one audio and got half way through another. I posted three reviews and my usual memes.

I visited only 14 blogs last week.
Shout Out this week to A Multitude of Musings. Astrid is a blogger who shares from the Netherlands.

Don't forget- Audible is offering free children's titles during these days at home.
Audiobooks.com is also offering free listens for children.

These were last week's posts:
  • A2020- Audible Book Review: You Need A Budget by Jesse Mecham; Genre: Budgeting, Money Management, Non-Fiction, Self Help; My Rating: 4.5 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.5; Narration 4.5.
  • Audible Book Review: Monster Hunter Siege by Larry Correia; Genre: Paranormal, Urban Fantasy; My Rating: 4.0 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.0; Narration 4.25.

Catalyst Downward Cycle
by J K Franks
Narrated by: Steven Varnum
Series: Catalyst, Book 1
Length: 12 hrs and 8 mins
I am half way through this beginning of a post-apocalyptic dystopian series.

Publisher's Summary
In the first five minutes, more than a million people will die.... That’s just the beginning of the nightmare.
The super solar storm wasn’t supposed to hit Earth - the odds were against it. And yet it did, and everything changed. The storm causes a global blackout. Society begins to come apart as the planes begin falling from the sky and all traces of normal vanish. Scott Montgomery watches helplessly as pandemonium consumes the world around him. But the loss of electrical power is just the first of the problems facing the survivors in the chaos that follows.
Soon, they discover the loss of electricity was just the beginning of their problems. In a land without laws and few consequences for their actions, individuals must come to terms with their darkest fears and desires. What will Scott do when he learns the draconian plans one secret group has for regaining control and ensuring their own vision for the new world?
Catalyst is a shockingly realistic tale of how society copes when the world is thrust back to a time before technology. If you are a fan of Steve Konkoly, Tom Abrahams, or A. American, you will love this audiobook.

I'm keeping track of my Alphabet here as I finish the books. The cross-outs aren't easy to see, so I made the completed letters blue.

August 16, 2020 - I finally am caught up on daily reading. I need to be in the word every day. I am again enjoying the devotions and readings with the One Year Bible plan through You Version App. I considered changing but this is the reading group that is closest to my husband's reading so we can sometimes discuss the same passages.
Now that I am caught up I will look through my saved studies.

I completed one book and posted three reviews. I am up to date.
My NetGalley shelf is still at 3, plus the four titles from 2012-13 which I still hope to read this year.
I'm resisting adding any more NetGalley titles until I get some of my review titles done. I still have one carry over author ebook left. I have two audiobooks from authors. I feel good getting caught up on these books.
Still many titles through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.
Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Leslie of Under My Apple Tree, Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
No new review books this week.

I still have to check the email requests I have been receiving. {Sigh.}
I picked up six free Audible Originals. I still have credits at Audiobooks.com and I am pondering deals as well as the August free VIP.
I added no free Kindle titles this week.
(Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.) Are your mailbox and TBR piles blooming?

  1. Glad to hear about her negative test results, but so sorry to hear about your assistant's family and falling behind. That can be stressful. Hopefully, all is back to normal soon.

    What beautiful photos.

I would like to read Waiting for Summer's Return. Neat free titles this week, too. Hope you enjoy them.

  3. Ouch to dropping your Kindle. Something I always am aware can happen. I knocked my phone the other day but it was okay so that was good. Sorry about all the sickness around your office but better to be sure these days.

  14. I think these growing uncertainties with Covid are going to rumble on until we finally get a vaccine, which is going to make it almost impossible for employers to plan ahead - I guess this is what they call the 'new normal' and everything is going to take that little bit longer.

I hope that your Kindle managed to sort itself out and you haven't had the outlay of a new device. These things are great when they work, but a real pain when they break!

Time travel is not a genre I would choose very often, although I do remember reading the very first book that John Heldt wrote, 'The Mine'. I did actually really enjoy it, but it wasn't until I saw you mention his name, that I thought to check out what he was doing these days. I had no idea that he had become such a prolific author, so I might catch up with one of his other series at some point in time.

I hope that you are enjoying 'The Lane Betrayal' and that you have some great reading / listening lined up for the rest of the week :)

    Yvonne xx
