Product Description
Working with local private investigators Den McHart and Sylvia Price, Briar's Point Police Department Detective Orlando Bateman solves a missing person case. Keeya Nilsen, visually impaired from the plane crash that took her parents' lives, comes to him and has a justifiably bad attitude about love, since all the men she's ever loved have cheated on her and robbed her...including the last one, who absconded with her most prized possession-her grandfather's unpublished Blues compositions-when he flew the coop. As together they search for her last boyfriend and her missing legacy, Orlando reminds Keeya of the faith she'd had before the plane crash that changed her life and makes her see love as God inte

What if your darkest sins materialized, seeking your annihilation? And what if your only salvation was to accept the touch of forgiveness from someone who could then claim your soul? This is the terrifying power Reverend Zachary Bright has over the townspeople of Silver Springs, Washington.

In CRESCENT LAKE, Nick Murphy, a mob informant trying to atone for his crimes–and his role in a tragic accident that killed his wife and daughter–is placed into a witness-relocation program and sent to a small, scenic town believed to be the perfect hideout. But from his first day in Silver Springs, he finds himself in a different kind of life-and-death struggle, one where his past sins have come back to haunt him. He and FBI agent Audrey Harper are quickly caught up in supernatural events and bizarre miracles, and must contend with a town besieged by religious fanaticism – and an enemy that can raise the dead.

And while a ruthless mob assassin closes in on Nick’s location, Reverend Bright plans to expand his dark ministry across the country. Nick and Audrey must overcome their own dredged-up sins, and then rally the few residents that have somehow resisted the Reverend’s influence. They will make a last stand against the whole town; but first, they must confront what rests at the bottom of the nearby lake–the source of the Reverend’s unholy power.

Line Edits/Releases:
This week we released Life After The Undead by Pembroke Sinclair.
The world has come to an end. It doesn’t go out with a bang, or even a whimper. It goes out in an orgy of blood and the dead rising from their graves to feast on living flesh. As democracy crumples and the world melts into anarchy, five families in the U.S. rise to protect the survivors. The undead hate a humid environment, so they are migrating westward to escape its deteriorating effects. The survivors are constructing a wall in North Platte to keep the zombie threat to the west, while tyranny rules among the humans to the east. Capable but naïve Krista is 15 when the first attacks occur, and she loses her family and barely escapes with her life. She makes her way to the wall and begins a new life. But, as the undead threat grows and dictators brainwash those she cares about, Krista must fight not only to survive but also to defend everything she holds dear—her country, her freedom, and ultimately those she loves.

Sunday Words of Encouragement September 4, 2011

We had a wonderful testimonial service this morning. First our associate pastor gave a very good short message. He shared one of the passages that means a lot to him. My comments extend the message that was shared.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

New International Version (NIV)
7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD,
   whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
   its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

First, trusting in the Lord is done as a choice sometime during each life. Sometimes we do it fully informed or sometimes, and better yet, we trust with the simple faith and trust a child has that their loving parent will take care of them.  Then, for some of us, trust deepens until it becomes such a natural thing that it is an unwavering confidence. Just like when we drive over a bridge we don't really worry whether the bridge will collapse while we are on it. We trust the structure. Although I suppose there is an argument to be made that in a hurricane, earthquake or flood we might avoid crossing the bridge. Unlike a bridge, I have complete confidence that God will hold me up even through the storms of life.

If we are rooted deeply, like the tree by the stream, we do not fear or worry about the weather extremes. With God's grace to support us we can still bear fruit even in the difficult times.

Isn't that an awesome message?  Thanks Pastor D!

I had never heard this song till today.
See/Listen how well it fits. God is so Good!

Tree by Justin Rizzo
I wanna be unmovable and unshakable so let my roots go down deep
I wanna be unmovable and unshakable in you,
I wanna be like a tree planted by the streams of living water
this'll be my song, God this'll be my prayer till the end,
till the end in the midst of the coming storm
in the midst of the coming blessing
that my life will be built upon the rock
and I will not be moved
not be shaken

A Verse for Today:
Psalm 37:25
New International Version (NIV)
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

We praised God for His faithfulness today. And I pray that you may set roots deep in the living waters of God.

Sharing Beyond Books #12 September 3, 2011

Welcome to another Saturday night! Thanks for your comments this past week.
I really enjoyed the shared comments regarding our reading "preferences" and phobias.  We have a lot of mixed reading genres which I think is lovely.

We don't have too many real phobias but many do not like creepy crawly bugs and spiders. Interestingly, no one mentioned snakes!

PLEASE NOTE - SBB #12 should close on September 9 but I will be on the air flight from Atlanta to Copenhagen. So the close date will run to September 10 and I hope to get to post the next SBB on September 11. We are going on an 18 day cruise and I will have internet access but not like I am used to.  If any commenter(s) would like to host this for September 11, September 17 and September 24 please email me at mesreads AT gmail.com and we'll set it up - you do the post and I'll still honor the winner picks.  :-)

The Winner from SBB #11 comments is: #ABBY There are still 9 'love' books to pick from, 8 Christmas choices and 3 Summer titles below. So Abby- please choose a book from the remaining Love Books List for Giveaway or remaining Christmas Giveaway Books or the summer books below and let me know your choice, your address and a choice of bookmarks by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #12 Questions

Q1. Jennifer asks the book question this week:  Do you cry when you read books?  What book has made you cry?
A:  I'm not a big crier. But I do chock up and get teary eyed sometimes.  Now let me think what was the last book that made me tear up... I'm trying to remember if there was a scene in Steamrolled. But I KNOW there were passages in Working it Out!

Q2.  Have you ever been in a disaster.  Hurricane, tornedo, fire, etc.? I thought of this last week because of Hurricane Irene and the week before with the earthquake on the East coast.
I have been in several hurricanes since I live in Florida and give thanks to God that my family has never had serious injuries. I remember the first one when we moved to Florida in 1964 - Cleo. We  watched the palm trees in the front yard bend to one side and after the eye passed they bent to the other.  We did suffer roof and other damage from Ivan and Jeanne in 2004. We drove to the panhandle to avoid Frances and Ivan but were in Palm Beach when Jeanne hit a bit further north. We spent the night rocking and rolling n our old motorhome at my husband's place of employment as he had to be there as the supervisor.

Can a secret be kept forever?
Five years ago, Shannon Astor left the beautiful high-mountain country of West Texas as a single mother. She was desperate for a fresh start...and a way to keep the secrets of her past buried. It almost worked.

Until a chance to make a better life for her daughter leads her right back home. To the very place of the past betrayals.

But it also leads Shannon to horse-trainer Jack MacGowan--her handsome high-school nemesis, now a widowed father. His daughter looks so startlingly like her own that Shannon can't help but question the circumstances surrounding her daughter's birth. Wary of each other's intentions, Shannon and Jack reluctantly join forces to untangle a deep mystery that swirls around Shannon's parents, a lost Spanish treasure, and a legendary black stallion.

If Shannon can learn to entrust her secrets to the man falling in love with her, the truth just might set her free.

Review: This is a story centered on the effect of secrets.

Shannon is a bright, determined, young single mother.  She had put herself through veterinary school and was living in a squalid apartment in the city.  When her uncle dies and leaves her the family ranch in West Texas she decides to return ‘home’ to take over the small veterinary practice from the retiring vet.  She knows she will face some issues going home but she is surprised to suddenly see a child who looks just like her daughter, Kylie. The girl, Faith, is the daughter of Shannon’s high school nemesis, Jack. Jack was the one who ridiculed Shannon in school resulting in her becoming an ostracized loner.  Shannon has never trusted anyone since that betrayal and the betrayal of her daughter’s father.

Jack is a handsome, rich wrangler.  He is the son of a powerful state Senator but rather than live the frenzied, socialite life of a politician Jack has chosen to be a horse trainer and stay close to home and family.  Jack is also shocked to see Kylie. He doesn’t understand how the girls could look enough alike to be twins! Then Shannon makes a startling discovery that puts both girls at risk in their circumstances.

Shannon proposes - literally - as a solution to the dilemma. They agree to marry for the sake of the girls but Shannon doesn’t trust Jack.  Although no marriage should begin with crucial secrets  Shannon is unwilling to disclose hers.  Jack loved his wife and is reluctant to let go of her memory which makes the new relationship even more difficult. Meanwhile someone is threatening Shannon’s best friend if Shannon doesn’t deliver a ransom even though she has no idea what they want. More complications settle in when Kylie’s birth father begins to make claims.

There is a lot going on in this story which keeps it moving quickly. However I was very frustrated by Shannon’s failure to disclose important facts that should be revealed before marriage. I also felt that the kidnapping, threats and attacks where a bit loose and therefor not fully realistic. I enjoyed the main message of the story that love is a choice and an action, not a feeling. I also liked the issues of forgiveness and seeking good in others who seem to be beyond goodness.

I listened to this book on Audible and the narration was acceptable... not wonderful but not detracting either.

Even though I wasn’t thrilled with the heroine, the story is engaging. This was our book club read and all the ladies really liked the story more than I did. One woman read books one and three this week too. I would read more by this author but have lots more to read before getting back to her.

One of the lady's in our group donated  her paperback to me for this giveaway. We love to share books and inspirational is a bonus. :-)
