#NetGalley Audiobook Review: Citizen K-9: A K Team Novel by David Rosenfelt

I enjoy this author and the characters in this spin off series.
Citizen K-9: A K Team Novel
David Rosenfelt
Narrator: Fred Berman

Citizen K-9 Audiobook By David Rosenfelt cover art

Series: K Team Novels, Book 3
Listening Length: 5 hours and 53 minutes
Release date: 03-15-22
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genre: K-9, Mystery, Private Investigator
My Rating: 4.25 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.25; Narration 4.25.

In Citizen K-9, best-selling author David Rosenfelt masterfully blends mystery with dogs and humor to create an investigative team that listeners will be rooting for book after book.
The Paterson Police Department has created a cold case division, and they want to hire the private investigators known as the K Team to look into the crimes. After all, Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel, recently retired from the force. Plus, another K Team member, Laurie Collins, used to be a cop as well.
Their first cold case hits home for the K Team. A decade ago, at Laurie's 10th high school reunion, two of their friends simply…vanished. At the time Laurie had just left the force, and Corey was in a different department, so they had no choice but to watch from the sidelines. With no leads, the case went cold.
As the team starts to delve deeper into the events leading up to that night - reopening old wounds along the way - the pieces start to come together. But someone wants to stop them from uncovering the truth behind the disappearance, by any means necessary.

Review:
The K Team consists of characters from the original Andy Carpenter legal mystery series. The Team includes Andy’s wife and former cop, Laurie, bodyguard/bouncer, Marcus, and former officer Corey and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel. The team is hired by the Paterson Police Department to work on cold cases. The K Team chose a case that involved the disappearance of two people, Chris Vogel and Kim Baskin from the 10th class reunion.

The team backtracks to interviews and evidence (or lack thereof) from the events 10 years ago. They find little connection between Chris and Kim but they discover that Chris was selling drugs for one of the local drug lords. Corey’s probing leads him to a local professor who specializes in statistical predictions. They also meet a menacing messenger, probable killer named Z who may be connected to Escobar. As the investigation moves forward it appears that someone is attempting to manipulate the investigation paths.

The investigation moves along quickly and, as always, I enjoy the interaction among the characters. Corey continues his rather snarky attitude and there is a very fun twist with Marcus that made me chuckle. I also enjoyed the caring relationship growing between Corey and his romantic interest, Dani. I recommend this story, the series, and the original series (Andy Carpenter), to readers who enjoy investigation mysteries with humor and dogs.

Audio Notes:
Fred Berman does a good job with the narration. It took only a few minutes for me to remember that this series has a different narrator than the Carpenter series. Although I still hear Andy’s voice in the other narrator tones, Berman gives distinct life to Corey and the associate characters. The narration enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

Sunday Post March 6, 2022/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday March 7, 2022

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and Storms
I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)
What Are You Reading? is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had to leave work a little early on Friday. There was a strong propane smell (next door restaurants) in our office (particularly mine near the rear) and I started breaking out in hives. I didn't need that.

I had my clerk prepare a spread sheet to help us keep up with the smaller work items (deed preparations, consult letters, Will packages) as they just keep rolling in. This is already helping me to get several done as I can prepare them at night. My own assistant is still filling in for the title office until we can hire and train a new processor.

I enjoyed a Saturday without a meeting! I did laundry, changed bed sheets, put away the last of the Christmas decorations, and put out a spring table cloth and a few spring decorations. I also worked several hours on the computer at home.

We discovered this week that one of Hubby's portable oxygen machines was not working so he was getting terrible readings (oxygen in the 70s). They almost put him back in hospital until we determined this was part of the problem. He still struggles to keep his levels up even on the house oxygen. To add to his frustrations, he developed a swollen jaw Saturday which moved to his throat glands today. We are watching it carefully as he wants to wait to see our doctor tomorrow instead of going to the emergency room. We suspect it is his lymph nodes fighting an infection. Arrgh!

We are seeing small signs of Spring in the only Crocus that seems to be left
and the Daffodils are starting to peek out!

I'm praying for the people and situation in Ukraine and world leaders.
We are also praying for local issues as fires rage in neighboring Bay County after Jackson County managed to control some of our own. We are under no fire ban this week.
.
We are expecting a lovely week in the high 70s, low 80s until next Saturday drops to the 50s again.

My listening was good last week but Kindle reading remains a struggle.  I finished three audiobooks and posted two reviews and my usual memes.

I visited 18 blogs last week.
Shout Out this week to LYN PERRY, WRITER. Lyn seems to like a variety of reading and has interesting profile including "I'm a pastor, coffee drinker, and herder of cats." All of those are positives to me.
Audible offerings for free children's titles ended June 30.
Audiobooks.com is still sharing some free listens for children.

But mere minutes after leaving O'Hare, their car crashes, along with hundreds of other vehicles. When Liam's phone stops working, he begins to suspect something more sinister than a local power outage. But before he can react, the first plane falls from the sky.
When a super EMP takes down the nation's power grid, Liam knows it's time to bug out. He's prepared, but he never expected to be caught in the middle of Chicago as chaos erupts. Gone to Dust, Matt Goldman

Gone to Dust
Author Matt Goldman
Narrator: MacLeod Andrews
Duration: 7 h 24 min
I had a sci fi picked out but then chose this for my "G" series in audio title.
I have mixed feelings about the main character so far but I am liking the mystery.
Language is a little more than I like.
Source: I won this at Beth Fish Reads with a set of titles from Audiobooks.com during Audiobook Week July 2018.
I also have it on Audible as it is part of the Plus Catalog.

Summary:
Set in Minnesota, Gone to Dust is the debut private-eye murder mystery from Emmy Award-winning Seinfeld writer Matt Goldman.
A brutal crime. The ultimate cover-up. How do you solve a murder with no useable evidence?
Private detective Nils Shapiro is focused on forgetting his ex-wife and keeping warm during another Minneapolis winter when a former colleague, neighboring Edina Police Detective Anders Ellegaard, calls with the impossible.
Suburban divorcee Maggie Somerville was found murdered in her bedroom, her body covered with the dust from hundreds of emptied vacuum cleaner bags, all potential DNA evidence obscured by the calculating killer.
Digging into Maggie's cell-phone records, Nils finds that the most frequently called number belongs to a mysterious young woman whose true identity could shatter the Somerville family-but could she be guilty of murder?
After the FBI demands that Nils drop the case, Nils and Ellegaard are forced to take their investigation underground, where the case grows as murky as the contents of the vacuum cleaner bags. Is this a strange case of domestic violence or something with far-reaching, sinister implications?

March 6, 2022 - These videos are really good! Bible Reading Plan: BibleProject | One Story that Leads to Jesus. I know it won't match my Hubby's reading but I wanted some different insights/devotions and I am enjoying the devotion video project. I am enjoying keeping up with my reading each day.
No new study although I will probably start looking at an Easter Study soon.

I completed three books for review this week.
My NetGalley shelf is back to the three old ebook titles. I will probably end up letting A Place Called Armageddon go as DNF.
I now have one author title remaining in queue.
(Plus a few that I received from facebook links and newsletter sign-ups, not specific review requests.)
Still many titles through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit, me and new to the team, Velvet at vvb32reads. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

No new review books.
Everything in my wish list was on sale at Audible! I did good only buying titles that were under $4.00. Still, I got 21!
I resisted any other book purchases this week.

I hit on a couple of Facebook titles;  then picked up three Kindle titles through Book Adrenaline. That led to a title with lots of free Kindle titles listed underneath. So final pick up for the week:

Sunday Words of Encouragement March 6, 2022

We prayed for needs in Sunday School and continued the study in Revelation. Service started with eager worship, and we had special prayer for Bay County fires and the people and situation in Ukraine.

Our interim pastor delivered a sermon on “Do You Love People?” He confessed that sometimes he questions himself: “ Do I really love people?” That made him challenge all of us.

All Christians are familiar with John 3:16 that tells us that ‘God so loved the world, He gave His only son…’. Just think of such wondrous love!! It is indescribable. “What manner of love…” 1 John 3:1 (KJV).
Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5: 6-8. We all have lived in malice, but God’s love and grace gives us hope. Titus 3:3-7.
Again, it is by His great love and mercy that we are saved. Ephesians 2:4-5.
That love is not just to Jews, not just to Christians, not just to those who follow Christ. That love is to all mankind.
When Christ died for all sinners, He knew how evil and sinful men could be.

The world is more connected by technology today, but it is really no different than generations of the past. (There is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastics 1:9.)
We are to share the love we have experienced from God with the world.
Ephesians 5:1-2. We are to ‘follow in God’s example and walk in love’.
Follower = imitator of God. Imitating His acts, words, and spirit.
Walk in love = To live in; conduct oneself.

Luke 10:25 – 37 tells us Who is our neighbor? Love God, love your neighbor. That means all mankind.
Loving your neighbor brings it down to where you live. Love everyone. Every individual is essential, our neighbor.
The Levi might try to justify himself that he couldn’t touch (be defiled by touching) an injured man. But Jesus takes away any justification.

Do we really love people or do we try to justify ourselves for excluding certain people or groups from our love?
Matthew 5:44-47 tells us to love our enemies too.
We are told to love one another. John 13:34-35
The world needs to see us loving even our enemies.
God forgives much and will forgive us if we seek Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14.
It's got to start right here!

Pastor shared the song video Start Right Here this morning which is very good!

But I came upon this video to share: Anything But Easy.
Verses for Today
Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV
1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Lord, help me do better to not just love others but to show your Amazing Love to others. It isn't enough to love if I don't speak out to share You.

Sharing Beyond Books #441 Comment Giveaway March 5, 2022

Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the last question.
Last post SBB#440 Scattered Leaves asked: Have you ever bought a “bookish” item on Etsy? For example, a book necklace, bookmarks, etc.??
Eight of us have not bought bookish items on Etsy, although two of us have looked at items and Mary's daughter has bought bookmark on Etsy. Two commenters have bought some bookish item- candles for Ashfa and bookish decorated letter paper for Miki. Life's Simple Pleasures has bought other times but not bookish items. Thanks for sharing!

For US participants: I need to update and refill the books available to US winners. I have used "Love" and "Christmas" titles as well as ARC titles. Since the supply is lower, I have author collections I could choose from, mostly romance - historical, suspense and some contemporary. What genres/books/authors would you like me to include?

The Winner from SBB#440 comments is #6 MIKI who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated (**Finally!) ARC/Review titles or (recently updated) Love and Christmas titles - all linked near the end of the post. -- [9-18-2021 I have added a new box and crossed off books no longer available through August 2021.]

Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.
WEEK #441
(One Question.)
Alina asks: What are some of your all time favorite recipes??
As I have said any times, I don't cook as my hubby has always been our cook. But If I had to pick favorite recipes (all being ones I could make) I would say: meatloaf (1st choice my mother's, 2nd choice hubby's); artichokes (steamed so leaves can be dipped in melted butter); pecan pie; pigs (smokies) in a blanket (crescent rolls); and easy breakfast cheese danish (cream cheese and crescent rolls).
Easy Breakfast Cheese Danish Recipe
Image found at Recipes & Me.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month, I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a 1/2 book choice or $2.50 towards GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! The supply of questions is dwindling so share some if you think of any -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify them.

Your turn to share.
Alina asks: What are some of your all time favorite recipes??

SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Updated ARC and Other books, including the "Love" and Christmas titles all in one post.

SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on the question above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 5 PM central.
