Sunday Words of Encouragement November 24, 2019

Our Sunday School teacher shared on giving Thanks --- for good times and struggles. During Service we shared Communion and then pastor continued his sermon on The Blessed Life.

Blessed is having God's supernatural power working For you.
Cursed is having supernatural power working Against you.

Our lives are better when we allow Jesus/God to take the wheel. Too often we take the wheel ourselves and even ask God to stay away from the car! We want abundant blessings, but we try to find middle ground doing what we want.

When it comes to holiday events, we hope that others will share the load; we hope that everyone will contribute. God is there to help carry the load. There are times He is prepared to actually carry you.

Is it acceptable to live your life without the blessing of God on your life?
People live without blessing. We compromise; we lower our expectations.
God rewards obedience. He allows struggles to those who are disobedient, but the curse of sin is lifted when we are obedient. And as part of that obedience, pastor asked: “are you tithing or are you cheating God?” Malachi 3:8-10.

Those who steal the first ten percent from God are under curse. The curse can be lifted immediately.

The Point: if you want to break the curse on your financial life… and everything connected to it... Challenge God by tithing.

Honor the Lord with your wealth and the best part of everything you produce and your ‘barns’ will be filled to overflowing. Proverbs 3:3-10.

God offers a solution to the curse. Malachi 3:11-12 represents promise, not compromise.

Why wouldn't you give the ten percent when you are promised abundance? Some people don't believe, don't trust, don't care or are in so deep that they can't give ten percent. Those Christ-followers who have learned the lesson know that you can’t afford NOT to tithe.**

God has a plan to prosper those who are obedient. Allow God's hands on your life.
What can you do? Take the steps necessary to Honor and even test God.

(**My husband and I learned this truth years ago. We were in debt and couldn’t even afford fast food for our children. Then we prayed and turned our belongings over to God. When we acknowledged it ALL belongs to Him and we are only stewards, He began to bless us. As we trusted Him with the first tenth of our income, he continued to bless us with abundance.)

This song fits the message for me- He Did it Again, Counting My Blessings!

Review:
Geralt of Rivia is a witcher. They are rare; respected by some; reviled by others. They are not quite a sorcerer, nor an assassin but they trade in elements of each. The true purpose of witchers is to kill monsters. They are dedicated from youth and given to be trained to be stronger physically and mentally. They learn potions, spells, and fighting arts. Over the years Geralt has become skilled and wise and able to prevail in most situations.

This book is a collection of stories of monsters- natural and unnatural - friends, twists and surprises. Geralt doesn’t go unscathed but he comes through. The stories include dark tales where choices have to be made between greater and lesser evils, some of which are human. Even fighting a demon genie involves fighting a power-hungry witch.

I wasn’t familiar with the game, but I liked the sound of a cunning ‘wizard’ who fights monsters. I enjoyed the action and the touch of humor in the stories. I especially liked the old-world feel of the stories. I recommend this to readers who like dark fairy tales.

Audio Notes: Peter Kenny does a grand job with the narration. He provides unique voices for the characters and captures the depth and mystery of The Witcher. The narration added to my enjoyment of this work.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost NINE years I have posted 88 groups of 16 plus an additional 21 totaling 1,429 books to find new homes! (as of November 8, 2019).

I am happy to say that so far about 1,286+ books have found new homes through this feature! YAY. [A year or so ago I posted I had reached 2000 books given away. As I calculated the numbers 11/2/17 I realized that had to be an error. I realized I went from 1098 to 2001 instead of 1101. Guess I was tired; sorry for the error.] I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. Judge Scrooge won't even heat his home for Christmas in this Roaring Twenties' short story. Judge Scrooge says that when you pay the bill, you don't feel the cold. When Judge Scrooge rules incorrectly in a cat dispute, Magical White Cat Tatania and her companion Zeus teach him the meaning of keeping Christmas and cats.

Review:
This is a very cute, short parody of “A Christmas Carol”. On Christmas Eve an attorney seeks an injunction to keep a man from killing cats in the park. The Judge knows this attorney as “Her”, a colleague from his past. After ruling against the cats, Scrooge finds himself visited by the “Magical Cats” to show him the past, the present and what the future would be like without cats. Will their visit help change his miserly attitude so he can share the joy of Christmas, even with his cook’s son, Tiny Tim?

I found this to be a fun read. It doesn’t hurt that I like cats and I love the kindness that should envelop Christmas. This story made me interested to read more by Ms. Matthews and I realize I have several volumes of Magical Cool Cats Mysteries which I also got free on Kindle. I recommend this to readers who enjoy cats and Scrooge based stories.

Madison risks her job to track down the artwork, but success falls short when she's stuck in a blizzard. Stranded, she seeks help from a frontier family. Are they living off the grid, or did she somehow travel through time?
Zach's the only person who knows her plan. He also knows a secret about his gran's painting. It's up to him to rescue Madison, but maybe he's not cut out to be a hero.

Review:
Madison Knight is facing a rather bleak holiday: no money, no fiancé since she discovered his betrayal, and a job on the edge. She can’t have any mishaps at her work, Once Again Antiques, or her boss will terminate her.

She gets a call from a man with a sexy voice claiming that his grandmother’s antique painting was sold to the company by mistake. Zach Murdock offers to pay double for the return of the painting. At first, the piece shows up in inventory and Madison agrees to sell it back for the standard restocking fee. Then she learns the artwork was actually sold and she sets out to locate the piece. In the process of trying to recover the painting, Madison gets stranded in a blizzard.

Suddenly Madison finds herself in unfamiliar territory. She slowly suspects she is out of place even as she befriends a young boy despite the skepticism of his parents.

Meanwhile, Zach has set out to meet up with Madison but fears that he will be too late. Will Madison be able to get back to her SUV and her proper place? If Zach can help rescue her how will she react to what he reveals?

I enjoyed the lively characters of Madison, Zach, and even Zach’s grandmother. The writing is direct and the plot is engaging. The story is complete although short. It gave me a good taste of Ms. Deters's writing and I would like to read a longer story by her. Christmas is a nice time setting although not a crucial element. I recommend this story to readers who enjoy time travel and sweet romance.
