What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Staff is starting to feel better but were trying to talk me into a special holiday on Friday. I didn't agree.
I continue to work on law files as well as real estate closings.
I got a reply from the architect and hope to talk with him this week.
We found a new egg niche this week - in a planter under the rose bushes.

Our cat had another good week. She cries for food every time we get near the kitchen.
Our weather hit 83 today and is supposed to be warm all week.

My reading and listening went well. I finished 2 ebooks and 1 audiobook. I have the Kindle working on a portable battery again. I posted three reviews and my usual memes.

I visited 20 blogs last week.
Shout Out this week to Odd and Bookish "With a Dreamy Far-Off Look and her nose stuck in a book".

It sounds like good intrigue.

April 7, 2019 - I am enjoying my daily morning devotion and reading with the One Year Bible plan through You Version App. I am on day 4 of a 4 day reading plan: Speak Life. I'll pick another study this week. [You can check out audio of the One Year Bible Plan on the companion commentary online.]

I completed three books and posted three reviews. That keeps me current with three reviews to post for current reading.
I keep working to add newer reviews to NetGalley, Goodreads, Amazon and Audible again. (Eventually I will add older reviews.) 
My NetGalley shelf is up one to 16 unread (still 2 left from December) to date, since I added three and am reading one. I have 4 old titles (2012!) that I might get read this year too.
I still have four author ebook titles in queue.
Still many through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.

Sunday Words of Encouragement April 7, 2019

After church this morning we met our son-in-law and grandchildren for lunch. It was so good to see them.

This morning we had another Sunday School lesson from 1 Corinthians 14 with some review of the prior chapters. Our teacher reminds us that the chapter breaks were not part of the original letter and we need to keep that in mind as we read the instructional and correctional text. Interestingly – and assuredly a God thing!– the SS lesson was titled “I’ll Never Go Back to That Church” and Pastor used that phrase in his Sermon teaching too.

Pastor concluded his Sermon series on The Bridge, finishing up in Hebrews 6 and 7.
As we see in the world around us people are beset with mixed views and mixed truths. The facts presented lead to totally different conclusions based upon their preset perspectives. Believing is not permanent. Truth is filtered and flavored. The distance between belief and doubt gets shorter.
Many people struggle when their belief is shaken.

Betrayal can result in doubt, mistrust. Some live with one foot ready to break away in order to protect themselves.

Christ followers are thankful that God is steady. God is a firm foundation. His promises are sure.
When we decide to change something in our life style for God we often meet resistance.
At such times the distance between belief and doubt becomes quite small.

Hebrews 6:11-19 says we can be secure in the hope given by God’s promise. Hebrews 7:21-22.

Point: Doubt is the destroyer of hope. Our confidence is most secure in the promises of God.

There is every reason why the Christ follower should have the most hope. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. The anchor must hold. If we are living in doubt, our anchor is not Jesus.

[I learned when I was 15 that I couldn't even trust myself, but only God.] Pastor restated this point – we cannot trust any human or we will be disappointed. Only God is fully trustworthy to keep His promises

Hebrews 6:19 and Hebrews 10:19-25 -- Only one thing matters: that your hope is in Jesus.

The sequel to Plague Ship, Voodoo Planet finds the Solar Queen banned from trade and starting her supposed quiet two-year stint as an interstellar mail carrier. But instead her crew accepts a visit to the safari planet of Khatka, where they find themselves caught in a battle between the forces of reason and the powers of Khatka's mind-controlling wizard. Review:
There are less than a handful of crew on the Solar Queen as it starts a demoted trek from trade to international a mail carrier. Before their route begins, they are visited by a chief ranger seeking help on his home planet Khatka. Khatka is a colony planet inhabited by descendants of people from Africa who escaped from Earth. The people have developed special skills and developed a combined clan effort to promote a successful luxury hunting vacation to the wealthy in the universe. But there appears to be a new problem with poachers and one of the clan families is becoming unstable.

Chief Ranger, Kort Asaki, asks the Captain to come with his Medic Tau to observe and, if needed, intervene to challenge an unstable ‘witch’ doctor. Dale, the Queen’s “general errand boy” is fortunate to get to travel on the unexpected safari.

The investigative team arrives at a game park to be greeted with a frightening display of a hypnotic dance that resembles voodoo rituals (thus the title Voodoo Planet). They set off on a journey over the mountains where teams have gone but never returned. Can they survive the natural dangers, the hallucinations and the threats of human enemies?

This read fine as a stand-alone although it is apparently a sequel. The story is told in third person with a good blend of dialogue and narrative. There is plenty of action and intrigue. I liked the ironic trick that was used to face the magic. I enjoy reading Andre Norton especially when I realize that she is a female author who wrote in 1950s.

Audio Notes: Mark Nelson does a nice job narrating this as a public domain work. Although he doesn't focus on voice characters, he still gives energy to the story. I am glad I listened to this on audio.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in almost EIGHT years I have posted 82 groups of 16 plus an additional 21 totaling 1,333 books to find new homes! (as of November 9, 2018).

I am happy to say that so far about 1,237+ books have found new homes through this feature! YAY. [A year or so ago I posted I had reached 2000 books given away. As I calculated the numbers 11/2/17 I realized that had to be an error. I realized I went from 1098 to 2001 instead of 1101. Guess I was tired; sorry for the error.] I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

Note rules here regarding international entries.

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy too. :o)

Repeating this helpful blog tip: You can right click on a link and you will be given the choice to open the link in a new window or tab so you do not navigate away from the screen you are on!! I use this all the time!
