It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday June 8, 2015

This meme starts at Book Journey! My prayers continue for Sheila as she struggles to regain her footing in a world forever changed for her family. I am glad to see she is reading and blogging a bit.


What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had a busy week and expect another hugely busy week coming up. 
My MP player died so I hope to get another working quickly!

I enjoyed my reading although it didn't seem very quick. I finished three books.  I only posted two reviews and the usual memes. :-)

I enjoyed visiting other blogs early in the week.

Sunday Words of Encouragement June 7, 2015

We had a lovely Sunday service. During Sunday school we saw video lessons from Perry Stone entitled: Yom Hakeseh - The Mystery of the Hidden Day. One of the sources he gave was Malachi so I read the who book as it is so interesting!

Pastor’s message was entitled Praise Instead of Heaviness. Pastor encouraged us to put on the “garment of praise instead” of heavy spirit. Isaiah 61:1-3. God wants us to petition Him for help but we need to learn to move from petition to praise and worship. [Pastor’s wife shared a word with us yesterday from Max Lucado’s book Before Amen. He says our prayers should be as simple and profound as “God you are a good God. I need your help.”]

Pastor explained that there is a proper protocol in greeting national leaders like the President or the Queen. The proper protocol for greeting God is praise. Praise brings us into His presence. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14. We should learn, as shown by many Biblical examples, to choose to praise in all circumstances. Acts 16:25-26. Psalm 34:1-5.

Sharing Beyond Books #206 Comment Giveaway June 6, 2015

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB!

Aargh! I spent most of today on one major corporate closing package. I had to do that today as I have two residential packages to prepare on Monday, as well as a trial to cover. I'll be the only one in the office on Monday.

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
I appreciated the information on how others choose their books. At least nine people check out blog reviews; five use Goodreads and five use friend and family recommendations. Several use Amazon reviews, library releases and catalogs or author newsletters. Several choose books from fav authors or authors who write similarly to their favs. Mystica uses NetGalley and Open library and doesn't purchase due to limited selection and costly prices. (I'm with Mystica on not purchasing too many books although I do fall for the $.99 books now and again.) Marjorie has two nearby used books stores that are a good source. Mary P and Becky get books "everywhere" - got to love that. :-)

A couple mentioned how they choose what to read too. In addition to genre and synopsis, some choose by covers and Fredamans is brave to just "pick up a book and have at it", hopefully getting lucky!

WEEK #206 (One Question.)

Becky asks: Q1. A question about learning: do you know how to push yourself? What experience in your life taught you this and what experiences in your future could reinforce your skill in this regard??

A: I don't quite know how I learned to push myself. I was always a good student and wanted to do well in class and sports. In swimming and running I ended up doing the longer races rather than sprints. I think I was able to push myself to see it through more than some others. I finished college and law school in six years instead of seven but looking back I don't know that I would recommend that to others. My sister always said I was competitive but I said it was with myself, to do my best, not to out do her or others. I love to cheer others on too.

I will share two book related thoughts that popped to mind with this question. When I was a young teen I thought I was an "ugly duckling" but fortunately my mom reminded me that the ugly duckling became a swan. Somewhere in those teen years I read Alice in Wonderland and I adopted my own motto: "If I really am a Queen, I am sure I will handle it in time." Now as my life winds down, I still strive to always do my best and live up to my commitments. 

I really like this quote - it fits for me.

Whew- another week and was it busy! My other staff was out this week on vacation and my daughter had to work extremely hard to keep up and prepare for her own vacation week next week. She deserves the rest. We had a nice family dinner tonight before they go.
I am still having difficulty with internet at home - last night it didn't work but tonight it is fine. Haven't figured out the problem yet.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways.

I started Friday Pick on November 27, 2009 and in five+ years I have posted 54 groups of 16 (864) books to find new homes! (as of February 6, 2015).

I am happy to say that so far about 829+ books have found new homes! YAY. I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed. I periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want!

Note rules here regarding international entries.

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $7.00 and $10.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy too. :o)
