Blog Tour INTERVIEW with Elizabeth Hoyt, Author of Wicked Intentions

I am pleased to share a brief Question and Answer interview with author Elizabeth Hoyt.
Please comment or ask questions to make her feel welcome!

1Q. Honestly, I was surprised to realize that you also write as Julia Harper. What inspired you to write the different genres you write? Do you have plans to write in any other genres?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  I initially started writing contemporary romance before my historical romances sold—I was going to try anything until I sold. Now they’re a nice change from the historical world. I don’t have plans to write in another sub-genre, though.

2Q.  Is there a big transition in writing style from Elizabeth Hoyt to Julia Harper?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  My Julia Harper books are lighter than the Elizabeth Hoyt books, and have more complicated plots with lots of secondary character point of views. They require a bit more plotting for that reason, but I don’t have problems transitioning from one voice to another.

3Q. I love series and I like to ask authors who write series:  When you do a series do you have each book plotted out before you start the first book or do the subsequent books flow from the first one?

ELIZABETH HOYT:
I usually have a basic idea of each book—who the hero and heroines will be and the fundamental conflict they have—but lots of things change as I write.

4Q. Do your characters live with you as you write?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  No. I think about my characters and their arcs, but they are separate from me.

Wicked Intentions (Maiden Lane)5Q.  Can you summarize Wicked Intentions in one sentence.

ELIZABETH HOYT:  A mysterious aristocrat enlists the aid of an impoverished widow to hunt for a killer in the slums of St. Giles.

6Q.  In Wicked Intentions what thing would your heroine never be caught dead doing or saying?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  Yes, my lord.

7Q.  Is there an ancillary character you had the most fun with?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  I enjoyed writing Temperance’s sister, Silence.

8Q.  How do you deal with writer’s block?

Notorious Pleasures (Maiden Lane)ELIZABETH HOYT:  I don’t have writer’s block. I may take forever to write a scene, but that’s just having a hard time with the scene. I keep plugging away until the scene gets done.

9Q.  What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  I enjoy gardening and spending time with my family.

10Q.   If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

ELIZABETH HOYT:
I’d go to India because I’ve never been there and I like Bollywood movies. ;-)
To Seduce A Sinner (The Legend of the Four Soldiers)
11Q.  If you could have readers finish a sentence what would it be?

ELIZABETH HOYT:  My favorite Elizabeth Hoyt character is _________
12Q.  Just for fun: Do you have a favorite species of frogs? (If you read her bio this question will make sense.)

ELIZABETH HOYT:
  Spring peepers.

Thank you so much for sharing at my blog today.
