Wind Warrior by Cynthia Roberts
"Leslie Michaels is a visionary, and only those close to her know of her special gift and the visions that come when her mind and body surrender to sleep. Fate has a way of righting many wrongs, and for Leslie it is a destiny that changes her life dramatically. But not before she is forced to flee into the wilderness to escape a murderous trapper bent on claiming her for his very own. Faith and a strong will to survive are her only companions, until she encounters Winnokin, the handsome Seneca war chief who first came to her in her dreams. Not only does he prove to be her rescuer and protector, he teaches her that tragedy can breed happiness and the passion to live and love deeply once again.
Wind Warrior plunges readers into the intimate depths of a relationship that unfolds like a live drama before their eyes while painting an insightful and intriguing portrait of Native Indian life in the 1800s. It is a story of longing, of a wanton need to survive all odds, and a love so strong it conquers human evil. Wind Warrior expresses with cunning words the simple, raw human emotions that hold readers spellbound and captivate their hearts."

Ms. Roberts took some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions about her book.
Q. Can you tell us something your heroine would never be caught dead doing or saying?

CR:  Being a visionary in the 1800’s and especially female was never viewed a gift but rather, a curse. Leslie came from a long line of seers, who despite the fear of being shunned or looked upon as a freak; she embraced the legacy of her female descendants instead of turning her back on it.

Q. Is there a particular scene you like the most and would never cut?

CR:  This is really difficult to pinpoint because Wind Warrior is a story of survival. I would say at the moment where my heroine Leslie is forced to leave her home and father who was just killed by a demented trapper hell bent on kidnapping her for his own pleasures. She has truly only moments to decide her fate and chooses to flee into the wilderness to escape with only a knife and the clothes on her back. Faith and a strong will to survive are her only companions … that is, until she encounters Winnokin.

Q. Is there an ancillary character you had the most fun with?

CR:  There were really two actually, the villainous trapper Red Farmer and my bad girl, Nuchzetse (New-zet-see). I tried to take all of the malicious, mean-spirited, spoiled and self-centered personalities I’ve come across during my life time and coalesced them into these characters. Of course, I had to use a lot of imagination but it was really a challenge developing the psyche of two individuals I wanted my readers to instantly dislike.

Q.  What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating this book?

CR:  I think the most important one is that I pushed through everything bad that happened in my life throughout the past ten years and fulfilled a promise I made to myself a very long time ago. Half of the dream is complete. The second will be the heartfelt acceptance of those readers in the genre I love to write for.

Sunday Words of Encouragement June 13, 2010

This morning was communion Sunday.  Pastor told a story abut Checkmate and pointed out the God gave us the last move - through Christ. Pastor reminded us that: Salvation is a Gift of mercy; Salvation is for Life; Salvation is Complete (it is finished); and Salvation has a Purpose that God works out in our lives each day.  Christ became the sacrifice for our sin.

I was just a child, when I felt the Savior leading
I was drawn to what I could not understand
And for the cause of Christ, I have spent my days believing
That what He'd have me be, is who I am
As I've come to see the weaker side of me
I realize His grace is what I'll need
When sin demanded justice for my soul
(Chorus)

Mercy said no
I'm not going to let you go
I'm not going to let you slip away
You don't have to be afraid
Mercy said no
Sin will never take control
Life and death stood face to face
Darkness tried to steal my heart away
Thank You Jesus, Mercy said no

For God so loved the world, that He sent His son to save us
From the cross He built a bridge to set us free
Oh, but deep within our hearts, there is still a war that rages
And makes a sacrifice so hard to see
As midnight fell upon the crucifixion day
The light of hope seemed oh so far away
As evil tried to stop redemption's flow

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)

And now when heaven looks at me
It's through the blood of Jesus
Reminding me of one day long ago

(Repeat Chorus)
Verses for today:
Ephesians 2:5-10 (New American Standard Bible)

5 ...even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

We prayed today giving thanks for God's great mercies and blessings.
