Sunday Post September 13, 2020/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday September 14, 2020

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and Storms
I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)?
What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I was swamped with one file work this week and trying to fit in other letters and pleadings. The new blogger editor is making me work extra long as it doesn't align nicely and I have to add in all the line breaks and extra coding for the images. Ugh.

I stepped out 9/10 and heard this bird before I located it high in the tree.
Listen carefully beyond the screetchy birds and you will hear the knock, knock, knock at about 9 seconds in.

I had to really crop in to show the woodpecker on the underside of the short branch on the right.

Our weather has cooled a bit especially as we get regular rains.
I have been enjoying reading/listening. I finished two audiobooks and moved along on my NetGalley title. I posted four reviews and my usual memes.

I visited 17 blogs last week.
Shout Out this week to Book Reviews by Linda Moore. Linda has been busier posting this year than in prior years and she is linking up at Mailbox Monday. Stop by and say "hi". :-)

Don't forget- Audible is offering free children's titles during these days at home.
Audiobooks.com is also offering free listens for children.

These were last week's posts:
  • A2020- Audible Book Review: Agent 355 by Marie Benedict; Genre: Historical Fiction; My Rating: 4.5 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.5; Narration 4.5.

Dead Rising
The Templar, Volume 1
By: Debra Dunbar
Narrated by: Elizabeth Phillips
Length: 8 hrs and 49 mins

This is a vampire story with a twist.

(Hard to resist an audiobook for $.99.)
Publisher's Summary
Solaria Ainsworth was born a Templar, destined to take up the mantle of responsibility and duty as her family's Order had done for hundreds of years. Except she refuses to take her Oath of Knighthood.
Barely making ends meet in Baltimore, Aria finds it difficult to obtain gainful employment with no work experience and skills in jousting and swordsmanship. Just before she's served an eviction notice, the Mistress of the local vampire family offers her a job - to research a magical symbol. It's an easy task for a woman who has spent every moment of her life either in armor, or with her nose in ancient manuscripts. The money's good, and the seven day deadlines should be no problem. But when her research reveals a sordid connection between the vampires and a mass murder, Aria needs to decide who is in the right and worthy of her protection. Modern Templars believe only God should judge, but Aria must do exactly that, or watch the Baltimore streets run red with blood.

Interview with the Robot audiobook cover art

Interview with the Robot
By: Lee Bacon
Narrated by: Kevin T. Collins, Ellen Archer, Josh Hurley, Eileen Stevens, Erin Mallon, Jonathan Davis, Stephen Bel Davies
Length: 3 hrs and 42 mins
This is a fun listen before I (maybe) get into a more serious auidobook.
1/24/2020 Second January Free Audible Original.

About This Audible Original
Ages 10+
Fugitive. Criminal. Robot.
A sci-fi adventure for young listeners, Interview with the Robot introduces a unique heroine who seeks the truth about herself.
Eve looks like an ordinary 12-year-old girl, but there’s nothing ordinary about her. She has no last name. No parents or guardian. She’s on the run from a dangerous and secretive organization that will stop at nothing to track her down.
And most astonishing of all: she’s a robot, a product of Eden Laboratories. When Eve discovers the truth, she realizes everything she thought she knew about herself is a lie. Eve manages to escape, fleeing the lab, the only home she’s ever known.
After being arrested for shoplifting, Eve is interviewed by Petra Amis from Child Welfare Services. Her incredible story unfolds during the interrogation, with flashbacks to her life inside Eden Laboratories, which has a dark secret. Listeners follow Eve from her first consciousness to her evolution as a nearly-human companion to Emory, the son of the founder of Eden Laboratories.
Exploring a range of topics that drive our society and our lives—topics such as artificial intelligence and human nature—Interview with the Robot is a story told by a startlingly original protagonist, a story that explores the vast potential of technology and the deep complexities of humanity.
Interview with the Robot comes to life with a multicast performance including Eileen Stevens as Eve, Ellen Archer as Petra Amis, Jonathan Davis as David Sharp, Kevin T. Collins as Emory Sharp, Josh Hurley as a Boswell employee, Erin Mallon as a device/robot and female barista, and Steven Bel Davies as a store clerk, hotel employee, and office clerk.

I expect to get to another audio which I'll pick when I get there. I find myself running through about five choices before I decide :-) Same with the next ebook although it will be one of my NetGalley titles.

I'm keeping track of my Alphabet here as I finish the books. These are the letters that remain:
NETGALLEY:  H  M  U X  Y and Z
AUDIO:             X  and  Z

September 13, 2020 - I got behind and had to catch up again. I am still struggling to keep up to date. Bleh to me.
I am again enjoying the devotions and readings with the One Year Bible plan through You Version App. I considered changing but this is the reading group that is closest to my husband's reading so we can sometimes discuss the same passages.
Maybe this week I will start the 3-day study this week: Even Now From Life.Church Worship.

I completed two books and posted four reviews. I have three review for this week.
My NetGalley shelf remains at 6, two current and the four titles from 2012-13 which I still hope to read this year.
I have added no new author review titles this week. I still have one carry over author ebook left. I have two audiobooks from authors. I feel good getting caught up on these books.
Still many titles through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.
Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Leslie of Under My Apple Tree, Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
No new review titles this week.

Someday I'll check the email requests I have been receiving. {Sigh.}
I bought one Audible Credit and one discounted Audible title.
And I added another 6 Audible Plus titles this week!
I have to pick up my second Audible Credit this week, my September VIP at Audiobooks.com and use a credit at Audiobooks.com before 10/3. I am eyeing their Audiobook Clubs which allows you to use a credit for a club grouping and you can listen to any of the books in that group for that month. I may do this soon as even if I only get to listen to two or three a month, it is still a value gain.
Only five free Kindle titles this week.
(Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.)
Are your mailbox and TBR piles blooming?

  1. That is such a cool sound video Martha. We don't have woodpeckers here so it was really interesting to me. Hope all that work gets done and that you have plenty of time to enjoy reading.

  2. We are having an issue with a woodpecker in the past couple of weeks. I'm not a fan!
I hope the new blogger gets easier. I know other bloggers are having the same issue with images. Happy reading!

  4. I've given up on downloading book covers on Blogger and I am sad over this as the post looks dull. However I do not have a lot of spare time to try to sort this out and if I wait any longer the reviews will be so delayed.

  7. It looks like you had a good reading week. I'm not minding the new blogger editor so much. They have worked out all the things that bugged me when I first swapped to it.

  8. Neat video and photo. I hear the woodpeckers in our woods. The tree frogs, too. With the cooler temps I'm seeing lots of birds lately.

I just visited Linda's blog before stopping here. Love her book box photo.

Nice books this week. I've had to delete my free ebook emails to keep myself focused.

Hope you have a nice week.
