How is everyone doing this week? My week was good; not completely easy but no major stresses.
Thank you to all who shared last week.
I found it interesting that fewer than half of the commenters had book damage from pets. 10 had no damage and another 4 had no pets to cause damage. :-) That left 11 with damage and that included MaryP's daughter who slobbered on a book. LOL. Bookishqueen and Diamond, and I imagine others too, have pets who sit or lie on the books. Our pets can really be jealous can't they?
I think the worst damage was to LindaK who almost lost a thumb breaking up a dog fight. But several people have had major wall, floor and couch damage. And there were some funny items: Ricki's puppy dragged glitter through the house; Di's dog tried to make off with the roast and Meghan's dog attacked the mail. Pets are wonderful creatures!

WEEK #103 Questions
Q1. Miki asks: When you love an author or a series do you want to own all the version of the books (ex: Us version, Uk one or french, spanish etc, hardback and paperback etc) to have all the different covers or do you buy only one??
A: I have ocassionally thought I would like to buy a book in print after enjoying the audio. But I didn't get them. So- no, I don't buy multiple versions. But I do like to collect a series.

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: What is the most unusual pet you or your family has ever owned??
A: We had a farm we called "Almost a Ranch." We had horses, pigs, chickens and the billy goat. But the most unusual I think was our two African Geese, Floppsie and Moppsie. They were beautiful but scary as watch 'dogs.' If a stranger came through the gate and the geese were in the front yard they would charge with their wings open -- and those wings are strong!
OH! We also had a peacock that would court our chickens! He was beautiful too with his strange cry. He would rustle when he danced for the hens, but he had wicked spurs. Wish I had our own pictures to share.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions. I do have a group of questions from the same submitters so if you have a question don't be afraid to ask!

1. No, I'm fine with one book and won't buy different versions of it. And up until now I also managed to resist the temptation of boxed sets of series I love - they might be lovely to look at, but already owning the individual books has got to be enough.
ReplyDelete2. Do teddy bears count? ;-)
Q1: I don't buy multiple versions of a series or books of a favorite author of mine. I do try and get all of the books that were publish by my favorite author or get all of the books of my favorite series.
ReplyDeleteQ2: The most unusual pet that I have ever owned is a Chinchilla. I got my Chinchilla through a friend who got it from a person that was a park manager. Someone left it in a trailer that they moved out of. I had her for quite a few years before she passed away.
1: Yes i confess i do own sometimes the french edition and the original ( us or uk one) but only from my favourite authors, in a way to support them^^:
ReplyDelete2: most original pet... a frog i took it when it wasn't illegal yet and i put her in the garden... i wanted one since in my grand mother garden they were wild ones i thought hey why not take one from there ^^ it was so small at the time..it disappeared under teh vegetation and i wa sso sad but soon she came at night time and jumped on my father foot^^ just to show she was there ( Verdie, i called her) and i guess she was happy there because she becames HUGE ( wider than my father foot and heavy) from all kle slugs she had to eat^^)
1. One is good enough for me. Books are expensive; I'm an international reader & the exchange rate make books more than 3x what someone from the US would pay.
ReplyDelete2. My nephew had a pet spider once to the utter mortification of my sister.

1. I only buy the one. Though I have been known to wear a book out by repeated re-reads. So, of course I buy the prettiest cover version in English.
ReplyDelete2. No unusual pets, but we've had a lot of wildlife drop in from time to time - carpet snakes, black adders, geckos, turkeys, all manner of destructive birds, possums, every variety of spider... You get the drift.
1. I don't have room for any multiple copies (except for the old Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys that I collect).
ReplyDelete2. The ferret we owned was not such an odd pet, but the fact that it was a stray was. My dog found it running behind a dumpster in the alley. We put up signs, but no one claimed her. I have yet to meet anyone else who has found a stray ferret.
No, I don't buy different versions. I always like to have all of a series though.
ReplyDeleteWe lived on a farm when I was a young girl but we just had the usual farm animals - cows, pigs, chickens.

Sometimes I will buy the audio version if I find the book version to be excellent and I want my better half to enjoy it. He commutes and so his audiobook time per week is 10+ hours, while his eyeball reading time is very limited.
ReplyDeleteAs a kid, we had salamanders that would escape their tank and be found walking across the living room floor in the morning. these days, I would say that our Muscovy duck is the most curious as she follows us around the farm, taking an interest in whatever we are up to. The wee little Cornish game roosters are fun to, strutting around, weighing all of 2 lbs.
1. I only buy one version of the book.
ReplyDelete2. No unusual pets, just dogs and a rabbit.
1. I do not try to buy all the versions, but i also love to collect anything related to the series or author.
ReplyDelete2. we never had a pet
1) I buy one format, the paper or hardcover in my favorite cover design. I'm in college and can not afford to get all the others.
ReplyDelete2)When I was little, my mom came back from a funeral in Florida (We lived in Michigan at the time) with some flowers. The next night, we found a baby lizard walking around the living room. It had hatched in the flowers and we kept it for a year or two before it died.
Q1: I only buy the one version but the whole set.
ReplyDeleteQ2 an iguana
I am international, in Canada so will have to choose a GC. Thank you
1: Yes, I have definitely wanted multiple cover versions before. I don't own any, but I have wanted to. I also plan on getting a book I like in French, once I finish learning it.
ReplyDelete2: The most unusual pet I have owned are chickens. I have five right now, and I don't have a farm. :)
1. If I buy a book series, I tend to only purchase the US or the UK versions.
ReplyDelete2. As a child, I had chickens and ducks as pets. :)
1. No I don't buy more than 1 version of the same book.
ReplyDelete2. Not really that unusual but we had a lop eared bunny named Flopsy that was just adorable and litter box trained - she was like having a dog she was so friendly
1. buy only one
ReplyDelete2. don't have pets
I only buy the books I plan to read. I don't need to buy extras for extra covers. Besides, I give them away for the most part after I have read them.
ReplyDeleteAs far as pets, I don't think we have had a weird ones. Dogs, cats, rats, lizard, aquatic turtles, aquatic frog, fish. Nothing too crazy. My DIL would like some crazy things but some of them are not legal in California so, no.
1. Not really. I'm content just having the American versions.
ReplyDelete2. Well... the most unique pet was probably a Guinea Pig. Although, I did raise a pet duck in school named Poe and I had to make the decision to bring him home and house him outdoors or donate him to a better home. I chose the better home.

1- oh no! My comment disappeared!! :( it was really long too...ah, well I DO buy multiple variations of my favorite books. Anne Rice is an author I frequently do this with. Her first book Interview With the Vampire got me into vampires and I just found a great used paperback with a cover I'd never seen before a few months ago! I was so happy I bought it right away! And I'm never going to read it, but I love that I have it. I guess if you're not a book collector u don't understand?!
ReplyDeleteHere's the cover idk if you're curious?

2- no odd pets for me just cats and goldfish!
1. Only one :D
ReplyDelete2. Snails :D
I only buy the one print version. And I usually like to get the whole series for my bookshelf but only the one version.
ReplyDeleteI have only ever had dogs and cats.

1 - just one print version for me - usually paperback (much easier to hold while reading, especially in bed).
ReplyDelete2 - when I was a kid my neighbor found a baby bird and brought it to my mother - it was a grackle. We put it in a bird cage, fed it soft bread soaked in egg and named it Blackie. After it got big enough we let it stay outside. It would come to Mom when she called it and hung out with us all summer, came with us to the neighbors pool, visited at our BBQ's.
1. No, usually I just get the kindle copy of books unless I am lucky enough to win a different version instead.
ReplyDelete2. My dad went through a stage with parakeets. Other than that it was always cats. The combination of the two is pretty funny!
1. I usually only get one copy.
ReplyDelete2. I've only had dogs, cats, hamsters, and guinea pigs.
I try not to buy too many books. I only have a few series. My only requirement is that they be paperback. I don't care if the covers match or not.
ReplyDeleteMy brother had a chinchilla when we were younger. Other than that, we've only had dogs.
Q1. NO!! Anyway it's unusual for a single book series to have lots of lovely covers for different countries. I like to wait until US and UK ones are out then pick the prettiest one to start collecting. Of course would love them in HC but it's not possible all the time as they LOVE to change covers these days.
ReplyDeleteQ2. Only ever had 1 dog and lots of fish so I'd say fish...I've had Angel Fish, Fighting Fish, and another one would be my Climbing Perch!
I don't do that, but I do prefer to buy the most beautiful cover, on my opinion whether is a UK cover or US. So, I have several books different, like Divergent is US cover, and Insurgent is UK cover (I love this cover because the color) or Hex Hall (Us cover) Demonglass or Raising Demons (UK)
ReplyDeleteThe strangest pet.. we had a macaw once, it was like this: https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/v/1005693_10201482416609355_1032619527_n.jpg?oh=e4b54ca8a064cc465fa15e66b306928b&oe=51BDEF10&__gda__=1371413400_e5762052454420e377672312725e2828 (It isn't mine, I found it recently on a trip.) My pet, whom we confused it at first as a "she" but it was a "he", It died over a year ago. We had it for 10 years and my grandma had it before for a long, long time. Now they are both in heaven singing :)
