Sharing Beyond Books #102 Comment Giveaway June 1, 2013

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

My work week was a bit quieter and I had another relaxing day today in between doing some book work. Is everyone ready for summer?

Thank you to all who shared last week.

There were about 10 commentors who like models and of those four like faces and six do not.want faces because they want to imagine the character. Many commented that the important thing is that the covers be consistent with the genre and the characters. That is a peeve of mine too and I have one this week that didn't fit. Terri pointed out too that the cover format should be consitent within a series.

It seems the majority of us are shower people, some for speed and simplicity, even to get to the bed to read sooner! :-) 18 prefer showers, 8 baths and several like both. A couple of people commented that they prefer the bath for relaxing.

The Winner from SBB #101 comments is: #24 cheryl c who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.

WEEK #102 Questions

Q1. Birgit asks:  Did a pet ever eat, ahem, destroy one of your books??
A: Yes, I have had dogs chew on my books. Usually they only get the covers but one of them did gnaw off a chunk of a corner before I realized he had a book.
Catch the title on this book. :-)

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: What is the worst damage a pet has ever caused??
A: Hopefully we don't have any dog bites although that is possible. We had a billy goat who gouged my hubby's thigh one time. He was trying to play but it was scary.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions. I do have a group of questions from the same submitters so if you have a question don't be afraid to ask!

Your turn to share:

  1. 1. Well, I don't have pets, but I once bought a used books which has subtle bite marks. I shudder to think what kind of animal might have caused it.

    2. Hmmm ... I used to have budgies as a kid, but I don't recall them damaging anything. No, wait! My last bird pair was still new here and one of them sat on the ceiling lamp and wouldn't move, so my Dad had to climb up to get him back down and managed to crash through the table on which he stood. Both my Dad's legs and the bird were unharmed, but the living room looked as though a bomb had been dropped.

  2. Congrats to the winner.
I don't have any animals in the house at this time so I've been lucky with my books. Except when I myself have spilled something on them. :)

Years ago we had a puppy (Norwegian Elk hound) and he was teething. I came home from dinner one night to find out he chewed the heel off one of my brand new heels. :) I had gotten them for my birthday the day before,. I forgave him though, he was just too darn cute.

  4. 1) No book was damaged by one of my pet, i guess they know i would become crazy if they do. teh cat tend to want to cuddle the book i'm reading if i don't give him some of my time too but it's not hurting the book( a little fur on it it's not a damage)

    2) damage caused by a pet...once again the cat is the culprit... he lovbe to dig out my plant.. of not exactly he want to go in the earth so it there is some space between two plants he will dig but he doesn't stop there and continue so both plants are damaged sometimes above salvation and he does make me shout at him!! this night it was the fate of the lilies so i will try to save what i can today.
I must admit they are quite calm and good pets in a whole ( the dog is simply perfect, a real nurse) for the cat i admit he is not evil and just want to do things he love ( same as when jumping he knock down a pot, it's not intentional)- but since i only have a few place ( less than one meter) i want to have some flowers too^^ our priority don't mix well sometimes

but i'm really thankful to have them both, i couldn't live without them and i wouldn't exchange them

  5. 1. I have two cockatiels would love to chew. Yes, they have chewed up many book edges. That's the reason why I try to keep all my books in another room! They once chewed little bites into a book that I had bought for a friend.

    2. We used to keep the birds in one of the bathrooms and they chewed on the trim everywhere they could find. Had to replace it before we sold. No more bathroom for them! Now they are in the computer room and I make sure that they chew on their chew toys and calicum blog.

  6. 1. Before I got married, I was living with my parents and their new puppy came into my room and actually pulled books off my shelf to chew on. She was so cute, though, I couldn't get mad at her.
    2. When my dog was a puppy, she got a hold of a bottle of glitter, bit a few holes in it, then carried it throughout the entire house, leaving gold glitter wherever she went.

  7. Q1: I never had a pet eat or destroy one of my books. Now mice or rats yes.
Q2: When both of my dogs were pups, they were very destructive. The big dog destroyed the kitchen floor in front of the back door. Also she still eats the carpet at times and I have to get after her. My little one when she was younger didn't like me working 12hrs days. She dug a hole in the wall next to the front door and chewed the molding off of the corner of a wall. They might of been very destructive when they were pups, but now I'm glad that I have them.

  8. Well, I'm happy to say that my pets have never chewed none of my books. I guess I'm really lucky.

The worst damage? I'm not so lucky there! One time, my little dog jump on the bed and made pooped on it! I had to change everything.

  9. 1. I have only lost 1 or 2 books to puppy chewing

  10. Q1. One of the cats used his paws to pull one of my daughter's picture books through the gate and ripped some pages!

Q2. We had some rescue cats that, even though they were fixed, sprayed everywhere. To the point that we had to replace carpeting, furniture, etc. We ended up having to move them outside to stop the destruction.

  11. no, don't have pets

  13. 1. No my pets haven't destroyed any of my books yet.
    2. My dog Skip when he was a puppy chewed up my mom's cell phone charger and on our table, he also loved to chew up clothing.

  14. 1. Books were always kept out of reach of pets, although my daughter slobbered on a book I had left lying around.

    2. We had a bully calf, that was very strong. No damage to property, but he used to knock me to the ground when I gave him his bucket of feed.

  15. 1. I had pet chew off the cover of a book.

    2. We had urine damage on some furniture.

  16. We have a Basset Hound, Ava, who is very sweet and not too bright. She will eat anything and used to eat a lot of books when she was a puppy. She would pull them out of the bookcase to eat...along with cd's and dvd's, pills, whatever. Now she mostly steals food.

As far as pets and their worst damage...how about nearly amputating my thumb? Well, it was partly my fault. I was trying to break up a fight between a newly adopted shepherd mix and the same Basset as above. The shepherd bit down on my thumb...ouch. About 4 hours later in the emergency room, they were able to save it but since they didn't align the bone fragment, it's still fractured 4 years later. And the past two weeks it's been driving me crazy. It will never be normal but at least it's there.

  17. Nope - no pet ever ate or chewed a book

When my mother died we were at my brothers to meet with the minister and asked him to stay to dinner. When my sister-in-law and I went into the kitchen the dog had the roast on the floor. We picked it up, wiped it off & cut a bit off that he had taken a nip from, but had to serve it - was that awful of us?

  19. 1) My dogs have never destroyed any of my books, but one likes to sit on my book when I am trying to read.

2)We once found a stray that while we were looking for her owner, she ate a couch cushion.

  20. 1- damage? Not really...unless lying on the book so I can't read it ad falling asleep counts? Lol. She loves to put her paws on the pages as I'm reading and if I walk away she uses the book as a bed.

2- oh she's ruined our new leather couch by scratching it! Naughty cat! She's too cute though, so I can never stay mad. I did make sure she had a new scratching post after that, though. loL

  21. My sister's puppy partially destroyed a book I lent my sister before I even got to read it. I was able to read it because the words weren't destroyed, but the book was basically garbage.

I can't think of anything big, but when I was a kid, my brother had a chinchilla. One time it got into the living room and took a bite out of every wire and picture frame he could reach before we could catch him.

  22. No, Gersh never ate one of my books. He did however tackle a few of my stuffed animals when I was little. Probably the worst damage he caused, however, was in his aggression towards the mail! We had one of those slots in the door for the mail to be pushed through and he would act like it was an intruder in the house. He would grab it and tear it to bits. My dad would always joke, "Gersh, could you at least tear up the bills!?" Our mailman, who never actually saw Gershwin, sent us a postcard saying we had to lock up our dog or he would stop delivering our mail. Gershwin is the sweetest, LITTLE dog. He is only 11 pounds and once a person walks through the threshold of the doorway he licks them mercilessly. He was simply scared, defending his territory!
    Anyway, thanks for the giveaway!

  23. 1. No but I have dropped one in the bath tub which may be worse.

    2. The worst our dogs do is break up the bottom our fence when it storms wanting out. AS long as she isn't out when it starts storming all is good.

  24. Q1. Well, right now I have fish so the most damage they could cause my books would be splashing it with water.

Q2. My pets are all indoor pets so no biggies I can recall. Lucky me!
