Sunday Post June 3, 2018/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday June 4, 2018

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and Storms
I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading now at The Book Date.
What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I am still glad to be making progress at the office with the help of a new assistant for my law practice. I have cleared one stack of files (probates) on my desks and now am moving to another stack (litigation).
Our weather is warming to the mid to high 80s with some days, like this morning, very muggy. We have had spotty storms all week long but no damage at home except limb fall.

My reading was comfortable and effective this week. I finished: 2 Audibles and 2 ebooks. I only got three reviews posted with my usual memes.

I visited 25 blogs last week.
Shout Out this week for The Perpetual Page Turner who has broadened her blog to include life as well as books.
Thank you to all the nice people who visit me.

These were last week's posts:
  • ATBRSYNC- Audio Book Review: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater; Fantasy, Romance, Teens, YA; my rating 4.0.

Leader of the Pack
By: David Rosenfelt
Narrated by: Grover Gardner
Series: Andy Carpenter, Book 10
Length: 6 hrs and 59 mins
I always enjoy the self deprecating humor in this series.
Source: 2017 Audible Sale Purchase.
Publisher's Summary
Over the course of his legal career, Andy Carpenter has lost a few cases. But that doesn't mean he forgets his clients. Andy has always been convinced that Joey Desimone, a man convicted of murder nine years ago, was innocent and believes that Joey's family's connections to organized crime played a pivotal role in his conviction. While there isn't much Andy can do for him while he serves out his prison sentence, Joey suggests that he check up on Joey's elderly uncle. He'd rather not, but as a favor to Joey, Andy agrees to take his dog, Tara, on a few visits.
The old man's memory is going, but when Andy tries to explain why he's there, it jogs something in the man's mind, and his comments leave Andy wondering if Uncle Nick is confused, or if he just might hold the key to Joey's freedom after all this time. Andy grabs on to this thread of possibility and follows it into a world where the oath of silence is stronger than blood ties, and where people will do anything to make sure their secrets are kept.

The Cruel Prince
By: Holly Black
Narrated by: Caitlin Kelly
Length: 12 hrs and 36 mins
The characters, Faerie world and drama have pulled me in.
Source: 2018 Win from Bookish Owl.
Publisher's Summary
By number-one New York Times best-selling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue.
Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him - and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

2. eBook/Kindle (LBCTBR)

Stranger Things
by Erin Healy
I am about 33% in and finding this intriguing!
Source: I picked up the print version at discount at Christianbook.com in 2016 for Ladies Book Club.
I picked up the Kindle version in May 2018.
In the burnt-out hollow, a house of dark secrets and an eerie beauty beckon.
Serena Diaz’s life is imploding. A troubled student has accused the young biology teacher of sexual misconduct, cutting off her promising career just as it was starting to blossom. But that’s just the beginning of Serena’s problems.
When a therapeutic walk in the woods leads her to a ruined house overtaken by criminals, Serena is assaulted and finds herself witness to the senseless murder of the one man who tries to help her.
Hurled into a world of false accusations and hounded by the press, Serena must confront evil itself to unravel the mysterious visions—and terrifying danger—that pursue her. But she can’t ignore the most haunting question: Why would a mysterious stranger give his life to save hers?
The answer, if she can find it, will point the way to her freedom from evil men in a lascivious trade.
“With her typical flair and eloquence, Healy takes readers through an incredible journey that will leave you thinking long after the last page closes.” —Lifeisstory.com
“Healy’s latest is thought-provoking and engaging, and becomes even more so as the story progresses. The author uses courageous characters to address the sex trade crisis. Themes of hope and redemption are seamlessly woven with spiritual elements and a touch of the supernatural.” —RT Book Reviews, 4 stars

3. Audible/MP3 (ATBR)
The Search audiobook cover art

The Search
By: Nora Roberts
Narrated by: Tanya Eby
Length: 14 hrs and 53 mins
I like the characters; lots of dog training.
The suspense is just starting.
Source: 2012 Audible Credit Purchase.
Publisher's Summary
To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life: a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.
Several years ago, she was the only survivor of a serial killer - a madman who stalked and abducted young women, strangled them, and left them buried with a red scarf on their bodies. As authorities were closing in on the Red Scarf Killer, he shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancĂ© and his K-9 partner.
On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. Yet all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He’s the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon’s house, and he’s at his wit’s end.
To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can’t handle. Simon is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he’s a rugged and intensely private artist, known for creating exquisite furniture. Simon never wanted a puppy, and he most definitely doesn’t want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to the laws of attraction.
As Fiona embarks on training Jaws and as Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands.

June 3, 2018 - I am still enjoying the prayer app which gives me five prayer groups each morning! I continue on track with my morning reading the One Year Bible plan on my smartphone. You can check out audio of the One Year Bible Plan on the companion commentary online.

I completed 4 books and posted 3 reviews. This puts me at 5 reviews due. I hope I can get them done through the week.
I need to find time to add more reviews to Goodreads, Amazon and Audible.

My NetGalley shelf is at 13 since I read one and added one. I still have two author titles in queue. Still many through InstaFreebie and many new author requests but I haven't replied to.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Leslie of Under My Apple Tree, Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
I received one NetGalley title for review.
I picked up one Audible daily deal titles this week and was thinking about picking up today's DD but the Audible system isn't posting the purchase button.
I resisted the Kindle deals this week.
I got week six free SYNC audios.
I also picked up some free kindle titles as usual. (Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.)
Are your mailbox and TBR piles blooming?

  4. Hmm I am thinking I haven't read The Search as I read the blurb you have included. It would be one for me to use a credit on when I have a gap!

Love and First Sight looks really cute.

  7. I started reading The Cruel Prince recently but I'm only a few chapters in. So far it feels unique and intriguing. Hope you enjoy it. Happy reading!

  8. I want to read Cruel Prince, but I haven't heard of any of the others.

  9. I haven't read a Jeffery Deaver book in ages, so your feature has whetted my appetite to become reacquainted with his work. Lincoln Rhyme is such a great character and as you say, you can't beat a good forensic mystery!

Nora Roberts isn't an author whose books I would actively search for, but they are always good as a stand by to fill in when I don't want to read anything too heavy or demanding.

I'm not into audio books at all, but it sounds as though they might be your preferred option.

Have a good week and Happy Reading :)
