Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
Eight commenters agree that their favorite leftover from turkey is turkey sandwiches. Four of our blog friends do not eat turkey - it is not readily available in many countries. Two people love to use leftovers in soup and others like turkey casserole and turkey hash (which sounds good - I plan to suggest that to my hubby).

The Winner from SBB #278 comments is: #5 Janhvi who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated ARC/Review titles or (not yet updated) Love titles - all linked near the end of the post. [I'm hoping to update the book choices - maybe the beginning of next year, lol.] Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.
WEEK #279
(One Question.)
Nikki asks: Do you like reading recaps (of the previous book) in sequels? Love them/hate them? Or do you think that's just the author trying to make the book seem longer/thicker??I can't think of any off the top of my head where the 'recap' felt like filler to make the book longer. Generally I like a little backstory because, even if I have read the prior books, there is likely to be a gap of time before I get to the sequel. Then the recap helps me recall the story aspects.
Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! The supply of questions is dwindling so share some if you think of any -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify.
Your turn to share: Nikki asks: Do you like reading recaps (of the previous book) in sequels? Love them/hate them? Or do you think that's just the author trying to make the book seem longer/thicker??
SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Valentine and "Love" books or the February 2015 Newly Updated ARC/Review List. (My daughter pulled several of the Christmas titles to give with gift bags we made up for the nursing homes. One of these days I will get together a new box of Christmas titles.)
SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on the question above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday November 26, 2016 at 5 PM central.
I don't mind recaps, especially if I haven't re-read previous installments before the new book in series comes out.
ReplyDeleteit's depend oh it's done because sometimes in series it's important for those not reading in order. For example in the sentinel of new orleans series by Suzanne Johnson you can start reading at book 2 river road or even start at book3 Elysian fields without feeling "lost" teh authors makes enough allusions for allow you to understand the universes at teh same time those allusionas are put in such a way that it's doesn't feel like repetition for those following the series so in that case i loved that
ReplyDeletenopw i also had read a book where teh author put recap every 5pages and worse...the exact same phrase or nearly that bothered me to no end and i never read anything by that author after
I wouldn't mind a brief outline of what went before mainly because I never ever get a chance to read an entire series. It has never happened so far. I just take my reading where I can.
ReplyDeleteI read so much that I like those recaps to remind me what the previous book was about.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Janhvi!
ReplyDeleteI like them especially if it's been awhile since I read the previous book.
I can't recall a time I thought recapping a previous book as filler or padding. Usually it's done organically and is helpful as a fresher.
ReplyDeleteSometimes flashbacks or memories are used too much and become annoying, especially when hammering an obvious point, but that's the closest thing I can think of.
I'm not sure I have ever read a recap as indicated. Not sure that I would feel the need to.
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on the story. An epic fantasy series is a good place to add a little reminder of the previous book by making it part of the story. Not a total recap though. That's kind of redundant.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Janhvi!
Congrats to Janhvi.
ReplyDeleteI do like a recap especially since some authors only bring a couple of books a year.
The recap is nice when I don't remember all the characters.
ReplyDeleteI think it depends. If I'm reading a series where eah book is a continuation of the story (as in a fantasy series), then yes. Romance "series" are usually standalone stories with common characters & don't really need recaps
ReplyDeleteCongrats Janhvi!
ReplyDeleteI do like reading recaps since I don't always read series in order or its far in between when I read the next one. I don't think that the author is using the recap as a filler to make the story longer.
Thank you so much everyone and Martha!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind recaps but they shouldn't take way too much time.
I don't really read all the recaps. A lot of series That I do start are after waiting till the majority are out. Then I can keep reading non stop. They don't bother me one way or the other.

Depends; don't really read those kinds of books
ReplyDeleteI like reading the recaps to remind me! I don't think they are just to make the books seem longer.
ReplyDeleteI do like mini recaps myself. Some can be quite long though but at least they help me remember the last story.
