Thanks to everyone who commented last week.
I admit surprise! At least four people like comedies best plus it got several 'included' votes. Although two people do not like horror at all, another three like horror best. And I agree with Liss that Disney and Pixar are entertaining for any age. :-)

WEEK #134 (One Question.)
Q1. Nikki asks: In light of recent, and not so recent events, I was just wondering, when an author hits out at his/her readers, how do you as a reader respond? Please feel free to share you opinions, the pointers below are general answers.
1) stop supporting the author if you were previously doing so?
2) won't bother picking up that author's book(s)
3) still support the author if the claim is justifiable? like readers/reviewers were trolls ??
A: I think I mostly try to ignore author tirades and author/reviewer drama. I can't think of any at the moment. I imagine if I saw an author be really ugly and petty I would probably not read them again.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We still have a supply of questions but from the same people so hopefully others will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.
Your turn to share:

I think I'd go off reading the books! it will be a real turn off for me.
ReplyDeleteI tend not to hear about it until afterwards after it has died down, so I don't do anything.
ReplyDeleteIf i saw an author reacting really badly like the one who critied all woman authors in the sci-fi fields with really insulting saying, who went to publish said critics then i won't read it anymore if i did and in this case i didn't but i would even refuse one of his book if offered
ReplyDeleteauthors are human beings they are intitled to opinion and such but they also are model so racist, mysogynist one etc i prefer to save my time for author i appreciate as a person too and not support those
For the most part I ignore when an author hits out at his/her readers. Depending on what the author is upset about might make me not want to read them again.
ReplyDeleteI tend to stay away from all the online drama...most of the author blogs that I follow are enjoyable to read.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Marjorie!
ReplyDeleteI stay away from drama, and haven't been involved in any myself. I let the books speak for themselves, but the author's actions.
ReplyDeleteI just don't have any part of it. I don't read the original cause of any tirade or the tirade itself. Chances are I would not have read their books anyway.
ReplyDeleteI guess something happened recently and I totally missed it! Maybe it's that the authors I follow are such nice people the bad situation would never occur with them. But if it was a really bad lash out, with no later good explanation or apology it would probably effect my enjoyment of reading that author and therefore I might stop reading them.
ReplyDeleteI would not read their books any more.

I haven't come upon any tirades towards fans by Authors but I was brought to the attention of a lash out by a very popular Author who has written one of thee most popular series and was shocked that the attitude toward a fan and lash out was so out of line. I am happy to say that she did offer an apology but let it be known she doesn't have a problem saying what she wants when she wants. With that being said it really lowered my opinion of her a lot. As if she didn't need any fans .And this all occurred simply because a fan made a comment about a particular character in the books. Crazy... Anyway, I won't buy her books anymore, there are still 1 or 2 left in this 8 book series I'm invested in for years, but I will finish the series through the library.

I think it depends on the way they handle it. I've heard about a lot of known authors who have been acting really nasty with some reviewers. I think that is not professional to answer bad reviews. Every author has to know that their book is going to receive either great or really insulting reviews. But that's no reason to start a drama in the internet. I haven't stop reading some of them, like Jamie McGuire, but others that is not even worth to name them are excluded from any tbr list.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard about this. I think I would stop reading their books.
ReplyDeletethose authors that lash out aren't worth my time reading their books or spending a dime on them when they're rude to their fan or critics
ReplyDeleteI would probably go off the author unless they wrote something really irresistable.
ReplyDeleteNot interested in buying/reading their books
ReplyDeleteI probably wouldn't buy their books anymore.
ReplyDeleteThanks for picking my question Martha!
ReplyDeleteWell I read about one where it turned out that a bunch of bloggers and friends trolled the authors work. In this case I would ignore it and still support the author.
Recently read another where a good blogger that I follow was rudely criticised by the author just because the review wasn't in his favour. I found out who he was and will not bother ever touching his books.
I would try to see where they are coming from. Sometimes they are under stress and need an outlet like anyone. Still, I may admonish that someone for lashing out instead of doing it in a professional manner.
