Arrgh - I forgot to link the SBB again last week. A special thanks to you folks who AGAIN sought out the post to comment during the week. :-)
Many of us would write an honest review even for books we do not like but most of us agreed we would be specific why we didn't like them. A few commenters said they would not write a negative review; not all of us are reviewers anyway; and a couple said they might not write a review but would let the author know if they liked or if not, why.
All of us have much to be thankful for - mostly family, health and friends! I was pleased to see several cancer survivors mentioned as doing well and in remission. Please keep miki and her mom in prayer and in your thoughts.

The Winner from SBB #127 comments is: #8 Elizabeth L who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post. Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.
WEEK #128
Q1. Birgit asks: Do you ever buy used books or do you prefer spanky new ones??
A: It is rare for me to buy a new book unless it is for a gift. I am more apt to buy a used book if it is a savings over a new book. I am always looking for bargain prices for my book club purchases so I often get those books for under $5.00 each.Image found at

Choices - Choices!!
Q2. My non-bookish 'Question' this week: Are you good at remembering birthdays and anniversaries or do they slip your mind??
A: I am terrible about remembering dates. If it is not on a calendar that pops up to remind me -- and even then-- I am apt to think of it a week before and then forget it again. Fortunately my DH and I are similar in this and neither get upset. This happened today - our 28th anniversary! My DH and I laughed a week ago about all the many times we have both forgotten and sometimes were reminded by our kids or a card from a friend. I happened to mention an item I wanted but said I would put it on my Christmas list. We tend to buy each other items all year long when we see something so it is not important that it be the day of a birthday or anniversary. I woke up this morning with the thought to wish him Happy Anniversary but then I fell back asleep. He went to bed about an hour ago but right before he delivered my gift and I was so chagrined! Of course he will lord this one over me. :-)
I can't say it was the first time though!
Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We are getting low on questions so hopefully you will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.
This is the end of November and the comments this month were submitted by: Nikki (Abby), MaryP, Brooke, Emily and Birgit. Random.org pick is: EMILY who gets a book choice or GC.
Your turn to share:

1. I buy used books whenever I can find some afterall they are a great way to save some money and still be able to have my hands on physical copies. In fact just last month I brought 14 used books (in almost new condition and with no spine creasing or dogeared pages) for around $10 from a book fair :)
ReplyDelete2. I am good at remembering birthdays and anniversaries of the people close to me. And of-course Facebook helps a lot.
Thank you a lot Martha, i do appreciate especially since we need to get the opinion on the specialist for my mom to know if she will be operated or not so thank you
ReplyDeletenow the answer: i don't mind used books but i do love them in great shape when i buy them. I do buy several of them mostly for me and for my mother ( when well she reads really quickly and that helps me to keep up)for example i will buy some between now and christmas to make her tries new authors and if she loves one then i will rush back in the second hand bookstore to try to find more or if i don't find any i will buy them new as i do for her favourites ones she can't wait to read.
For my brother i buy news because he doesn't like used and since it's a gift i don't mind
Second, i tries to remember them all and usually i'm quite good but when too exhausted i take one day after another so i don't even know which day we are so at those time birthdays are forgotten ( and i feel bad about it each time)
1. I love buying both used and new books. New books are great but there's a different kind of pleasure in finding amazing used books.
ReplyDelete2. I am awful at remembering birthdays and anniversaries. That's what reminders in the phone are for ;)
1.I'm happy to buy used books if buying printed ones
ReplyDelete2. I make an effort to remember. Easy to put a reminder in my calendar & hv reminders pop up in my email
I am terrible at remembering so called important dates--luckily my husband is, too. We also can never remember how long we've been married and have to go find our certificate to see how long it has been. We missed our 25th anniversary entirely.

1. I usually buy ebooks for my nook now so don't buy a lot of hard or soft cover books but it depends on if I can wait to read the book or want to read it when it first comes out.
ReplyDelete2. I laughed at your story because that's my husband and I - I always remember birthdays but our anniversary we're both bad at - reminds me it's next week
1. Yes, I buy used books. We have sales at the library and I have bought some great books
ReplyDelete2. I write the dates of birthdays and anniversaries in my calendar at the beginning of the year.
1- Well, I like both of them. Problem is, I don't have any store near my house that sells used books. Sometimes, maybe two times at year, they're fairs at my university and the only time I saw something that was interesting was when I got Lord Of The Rings's books. I'm dying to go to the capital of my country, it's 3 hours from where I live, there are a couple of stores that sells used books at $0.50!!! Yep, but they keep those books with a lot of dust but i don't mind to get dirty to buy, maybe a dozen of them :)
ReplyDelete2- I'm usually good remembering dates, I don't know why, even if I don't have a close friendship with anyone, but if you tell me that this day is your birthday, next year I'll remember it and think about that it's your bday! But, because I'm human, sometimes I forgot my anniversary with my boyfriend, (lol) we're like you with your husband, so I smiled when I read your answer. :)
1. I tend to buy used books for myself and new books to give as gifts.
ReplyDelete2. I try to remember birthdays and other important dates, but I have the dates all listed on my calendar, just in case. :)
Thanks! Have a wonderful day!
1. I don't mind used books. There isn't a good used bookstore around here though :(
ReplyDelete2. I'm good at remembering dates.
1. I'll buy used, but nothing beats the smell of a new book.
ReplyDelete2. I can remember my husband's, mom's, and dad's birthdays, and that's it, and my own anniversary.
Congrats Elizabeth!
ReplyDelete1. Each year there is a massive used book fair here in town. I usually check it out & buy some books. It's a fun day.
ReplyDelete2. I have dates written down in a book & then when I get a new calender for the year I write them in. Yes, I forget. That's why I need to have a visual reminder.
Martha happy 28th anniversary!
ReplyDelete1. I buy a lot of used books. I buy them from flea markets and yard sales. I buy a few new books at times too though.
2. I bad for not remembering dates. I will think about the dates either two weeks early or after the date. A lot of the times I have to ask my mother or mother-in-law what the dates are for certain family members.
1. I don't mind used books.
ReplyDelete2. I remember dates :D
1. buy used ones
ReplyDeleteI just bought 3 books at the used book store today.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I actually forgot my anniversary last year.
Congrats to Elizabeth.
1. My country doesn't have a super cool used bookstore like in the pic so I usually get mine new. Unless I find some used ones on a forum.
ReplyDelete2. Pretty bad unless it's family and very close friends. I depend a lot on my hp planner. Sigh...
