Book Description
A fair-haired beauty at 19, Lady Mairi is heiress apparent to her father Lord Dunwythie's rich barony. He has carefully taught her how to manage their estates, but a feud between his clan and the Maxwell clan is brewing as the two families edge toward a clan war - their dispute over money owed. Mairi's father believes he owes nothing, and of course Mairi sides with him.

When the impulsive and blue-eyed Rob Maxwell chances to meet Mairi in a barley field, they feel instant attraction, despite their families' antagonisms. Knowing he must put his clan first, Rob enacts a plan to force Dunwythie to pay his debt: Rob kidnaps Mairi, making the abduction appear the work of a stranger; then he and his sheriff-brother offer to help Dunwythis rescue his daughter IF, and only if, he will pay them the monies due. Yet after Rob captures Mairi's body, she captures his heart. When Dunwythie summons the aid of the most powerful clan in all Scotland (the Douglases), clan-tensions rise to a fever pitch. Love takes its own feverish course, as Mairi and Rob join forces to prevent a clash between hot-headed clans, and to protect their budding love.

I didn't realize I was supposed to be doing a Q&A with this so I had not sent in any questions.  Instead I will share one of the "fun facts" presented at Hachette from the author:
While I was writing Seduced by a Rogue, a new kitten adopted us. Although I love cats, I rarely put them in my books. However, when our new kitten, a particularly fierce and funny little beast, stubbornly kept climbing all over me and my keyboard as I tried to write, somehow he also strolled into Seduced by a Rogue as Tiggie Whiskers. His favorite trick is to drape himself over my left shoulder and peer at the screen as if he is checking out everything I write. The wee editor’s real name is Willie Magee.
The kitten is a cute "character" in the story!

Many thanks to Hachette and to Anna for this giveaway!

  1. There is a distant member of my family that has been feuding with other members of my extended family for decades. When I asked my mother what the feud was about we found out that no one really remembers what started the whole thing!

  6. The most infamous feud in American folklore is the long-running battle between the Hatfields and McCoys. The Hatfields and McCoys have a storied and deadly history dating to Civil War times. Their generations of fighting over land, timber rights and even a pig are the subject of dozens of books, songs and countless jokes. Unfortunately for Appalachia, the feud is one of its greatest sources of fame.

  7. I agree with Viginia C's post about the Hatfields and McCoys. That story has been passed on for decades.

In the town where I grew up there was a feud between two families, called the Tolliver's and the Martin's. There was a lot of killing over the years and it finally ended when one of the last descendants of the Martin family was killed on the courthouse steps.

  11. One of the more well known family feuds in Canada was between the children of the Billes family who were heirs to the iconic Canadian Tire stores. The feud was chronicled in a book called Freewheeling: The Feuds, Broods, and Outrageous Fortunes of the Billes Family and Canada's Favourite Company.

    Thanks for the great review!

  12. Oh my, when I first met my husband, his extended family was embroiled in some dispute as to the expansion of the family business! Those things never turn out well! Thankfully, it wasn't a part of his life or my immediate in-laws and in the years since, all has calmed down!
    Thanks for a fun review.

  13. I remember one aunt not talking to her brother for a long time, finally made up, and she never could remember what her beef was. Probably something minor, she's stubborn and got offended easily.

Good review, and I'm a follower.

  15. A lot of family feuds over inheritance, politics, you name it. I can't talk to some of my family, because they can't stand my views.

  16. Yes, I do know a couple of families involved in feuds and it really saddens me that they can't get over it.

  20. I follow your blog.

My ancestors were involved in many clan feuds in Scotland and Ireland. We have personal family histories about them.

  21. Actually, when my grandfather passed away 2 yrs ago there was a rift in the family. He didn't have much, but what he did have was griped over. The biggest issue was the house (a smaller 3br brick home needing quite a few repairs). Originally the house was to go to my mom - all her brothers agreed to this (she's only girl , has 5 brothers), but was a different story in the end. Part thought she should buy it, some wanted to sell it right away, some said she should get it because it was my grandfather's wish. My mother is a forgivin person and though this bothers her still she speaks to all of them. Some were not so forgiving - one in particular who actually sided with my mother getting the house. He hasn't spoken to part of the brothers in the 2 yrs and doesn't plan on it anytime soon. It really is sad what greed can do. Now that the house is sold and they've all spent there $5,000 each (yep that was all that was profited over the whole mess), they regret it being gone. It's so sad when feuding occurs especially over such as this.
