The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead are really good, haven't read #4 yet, but #3 was a doozy. Also, Karen Marie Moning's Fever series did the same thing, #3 will flip your lid and I haven't read #4 yet, but it is out.

I would recommend the "Riddlemaster of Hed" trilogy by Patricia McKillip. It is a great epic saga with engaging characters, and beautifully descriptive prose.
