In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. In Linger, they fought to be together. Now, in Forever, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.

Review:
This is the conclusion of this YA trilogy.  It started a bit slowly for me but after an hour or so I was engaged in the story and rooting for Sam and Grace as well as Cole and Isabelle.

Sam and Grace met in Shiver. Grace is a young, smart teenager and Sam is a young man who yearns after her but turns wolf each winter. The pack leader, Beck, believed that Sam would remain a wolf the next winter.

At the end of Linger, Sam had been “cured” of being a werewolf by being infected with high fevers apparently suppressing the werewolf cells. Unfortunately, age or stress or a combination of factors, had triggered the werewolf cells to emerge in Grace where they had been suppressed since she was bitten as a child. Sam was now human and Grace a wolf each winter.

In this third book there is more angst between several characters. Cole is a talented but tormented musician who was “recruited” by Beck to “manage” the pack since Beck believed both he and Cole would be unavailable to do so.  Cole has had a pretty rocky and arrogant life and he rubs proper, angry Isabel the wrong way.  She is drawn to him but realizes he would be bad news. For some reason Cole is unable to keep his werewolf stable. He begins to experiment with ways to trigger the changes.

Sam is waiting for spring to bring the wolves, and especially Grace, back to him. Grace's parents and many townfolk think that Sam is responsible for the disappearance of Beck and Grace. The authorities are starting to put pressure on him. Adding to his troubles Sam begins to have emotional struggles thinking that it was a betrayal when he was deliberately bitten as a child.

Isabel’s brother Jack was turned to a wolf and died in the second book.  Their father begins to arrange a public hunt for the wolves.  When several more teens are attacked, the hunters get permission to use a helicopter to herd the wolves together for the hunt.

Sam, Cole and Grace race against time to find a way to move the wolf pack to a safer area. They find a friend in a surprising person but their efforts may not work when the hunt is suddenly moved up by several weeks.

Once again I enjoyed the haunting poetry, music and songs that were shared by Cole and Sam although there seemed fewer than the prior books.  There was plenty of excitement as the hunt pressed in. The writing is pleasantly lyrical and simultaneously simple in presentation but complex in emotion. I was a little disappointed that the ending didn’t fully resolve all the questions but there was enough for the reader to draw in a positive conclusion.

I especially love the audio performance for this trilogy.  The different voices bring the characters alive and enhanced the story for me. If you like werewolf stories and sincere teen romance, I highly recommend listening to this trilogy.

If you saw the pictures posted of my bookshelves and boxes you know I do have lots of books! And that doesn't include the other eight or so boxes at my office!! And more books as I find deals too good to pass up! I am sharing my book bounty by these Friday Pick Giveaways. 

I started Friday Pick in November 27, 2009 and in two years I  posted 26 groups of 16 books to find new homes! (March 2012)

I have periodically update the lists - deleting those won. You can still go to the Friday Pick list link to see older posts and the older lists book pictures if you want! I am happy to say that so far about 353 books have found new homes! YAY. I have to update my print out to check the exact number sent out - a few were never claimed.

Note rules here regarding international entries.

Because postage to overseas can be prohibitive I am willing to give a $5.00 book certificate to international winners - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, ARe, TWRP, ClassAct Books, eTreasures, Desert Breeze, etc....you tell me where and I'll set it up. So for my overseas visitors your comment may indicate a smaller book and I'll check postage or note your choice of gift card.

I learned that The Book Depository does not ship to everywhere. The postage for some of the books to far away places runs between $5.00 and $6.00 and up. Since I would award $5.00 for The Book Depository to an international winner, as an alternative you may choose a smaller book and we will hope the postage will not exceed $6.00. If the postage is more, or if you want to pick a larger book and you are willing to pay any extra postage beyond the $6.00 I will work with you on that. This may not make a difference to many but if it helps one or two of you to give one of my books a home that will make me happy too. :o)

Review:
Dai is an ancient warrior whose family was cursed as goblins for nearly two thousands years.  Now that the curse has been broken (Book 1, The Goblin King) Dai and his brother Roan are able to live again as humans in the “Fixed Realm” which is the human world instead to the dark Shadowlands where the Goblins dwelled. Dai sought out magic for years trying to break the Goblin Curse.  He has become a mage but wants to make better use of the magical skills.  He is in conflict with the Birch Trustees who are refusing to return his library of magical books.

Amanda meets Dai at the wedding of her sister-in-law, Eliza, who is marrying Roan.  Amanda lost her husband seven years ago, before their daughter, Brigit, was born. Amanda has clung to the memory of her first love as she struggles as a single mom taking care of a child with serious asthma illness.  For the first time in seven years Amanda is drawn to a man.  Dai immediately notices the thread of attraction and desire between them. He has been abstinent for an even longer time with his tortured past and secrets keeping him from making love to any woman.

There is a lot of magical use woven through the story and I enjoyed Ms. Husk’s method of showing the weave of magic within objects through Dai’s eyes.  An eerie character from Birch Trustees, Vexicon, shows up to question Dai’s use of magic. There are other characters who turn out to have a past life connection to Dai, including his cousin Meryn who turns up human and hiding in the Shadowlands. Dai stages a rescue even though Meryn doesn’t recognize him and attacks Dai during the rescue. I’m am curious to see what the author has in store for Meryn in book three.

I enjoyed the reluctant passion between these two.  Amanda must decide to give up the loyalty to her dead husband so she can have a present life.  Dai must risk sharing his scars with Amanda in the hope that she might love him in spite of his horrible past. There is some repetition of their respective struggles but fortunately the story keeps moving. Although the romance is the focus, the persistent warmth and charm of it kept me interested until the action scenes appeared near the end of the story.  If you like a warm romance with magical overtones this is a solid entertaining selection.
