Sunday Post May 2, 2021/It's Monday! What are You Reading? Plus Mailbox Monday May 3 2021

Sunday Post #318 Chairs, Compliance, and Storms

I am linking with Sunday Post at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? now at The Book Date (at Wordpress)
What Are You Reading? is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Heather's CT revealed that her ear is healing but her sinuses are severely infected. Apparently when she blew her ear drum she also blew a hole in her septum and the infection there is the cause of her dizziness and nausea. They have provided an antibiotic treatment to get the infection down so they can operate in two or three months.

We are so glad that she has been able to get back into the office this week. Her presence sure helps. This allowed me to get back to legal work that needs attention.

I am still refining my weekly stock options to seek consistent (to some degree) returns with fewer options. It just amazes me that my account is up 72% in one year!

I have been missing the little rabbits on the drive into our area as they are too fast.
But this week one of them froze and I was able to take pictures even though he was very well camouflaged! Can you find him?
There were actually two but I didn't see the one to the right until he jumped away. I didn't know I caught him in the picture until I came back to download it.
Scroll down to the end of the post to see them zoomed in. :-)

We are drying out and our weather is very nice.

Reading was good this week with some easy reading books. I finished one audio book, one print book and one NetGalley children's book. I posted three reviews and my usual memes.

I visited 25 blogs last week which was fun.
Shout Out this week to AMBER STULTZ. Amber says she "grew up on a street where children were scarce, so books became her closest friends."

Don't forget- Audible is offering free children's titles during these days at home.
Audiobooks.com is also offering free listens for children.

These were last week's posts:
  • ANG2021- #NetGalley Audio Book Review: A Waterfront Wedding by Leigh Duncan; Genre: Clean & Wholesome, Hallmark, Romance, Weddings; My Rating: 4.25 of 5.0 Overall; Story 4.25; Narration 4.25.

So far there is a lot of alien tech and intrigue.
Source: 3/18/19 Audible purchase for $1.99 since I had the ebook.

Publisher's Summary
Jennifer Smythe escapes Earth's invasion by the insidious Kasari race, hijacks an alien starship, and survives the deadly passage through a wormhole. But escape is short-lived....
When Jennifer emerges on the new world of Scion, she is confronted by the same deadly enemy. Now the Kasari have sided with the planet's angel-like elite against the warrior underclass, but with the intent of ultimately ruling both. And when Jennifer is captured by the brutish Koranthians, her alien-enhanced abilities make her a crucial asset in battling the Kasari and their winged allies.
Back on a divided Earth, Jennifer's brother, Mark, and Jack "the Ripper" Gregory wage their own war against the Kasari. As the global government welcomes the extraterrestrials, Mark, Jack, and their rebel faction seek to use the powerful mind-altering skills gained from the Kasari's sworn enemies to repel the would-be conquerors. But faced with the might of Earth's ruling forces, has the cause already been lost?

The Madman's Library
The Strangest Books, Manuscripts and Other Literary Curiosities from History
by Edward Brooke-Hitching
This looks really interesting!
Received 4/4/2021 from NetGalley Read Now.

'Anybody who loves the printed word will be bowled over by this amusing, erudite, beautiful book about books. It is in every way a triumph. One of the loveliest books to have been published for many, many years' Alexander McCall Smith
'Quite simply the best gift for any book lover this year, or perhaps ever' Lucy Atkins, Sunday Times Books of the Year
'An utterly joyous journey into the deepest eccentricities of the human mind… The most cheering, fascinating book I’ve read for ages' Guardian
From the author of the critically acclaimed and globally successful The Phantom Atlas, The Golden Atlas and The Sky Atlas comes a stunning new work. The Madman’s Library is a unique, beautifully illustrated journey through the entire history of literature, delving into its darkest territories to hunt down the very strangest books ever written, and uncover the fascinating stories behind their creation.

This is a madman’s library of eccentric and extraordinary volumes from around the world, many of which have been completely forgotten. Books written in blood and books that kill, books of the insane and books that hoaxed the globe, books invisible to the naked eye and books so long they could destroy the Universe, books worn into battle, books of code and cypher whose secrets remain undiscovered… and a few others that are just plain weird.
From the 605-page Qur'an written in the blood of Saddam Hussein, through the gorgeously decorated 15th-century lawsuit filed by the Devil against Jesus, to the lost art of binding books with human skin, every strand of strangeness imaginable (and many inconceivable) has been unearthed and bound together for a unique and richly illustrated collection ideal for every book-lover.

May 2, 2021 - I love seeing new things each time I read the Bible. I am glad to still be current with morning reading. (I got one day behind but and caught up again.)
I am reading/listening to the NLT Tyndale version of the Bible on You Version App so Hubby and I are reading the same passages each day.
I finished the 6 day study: Truth Plus Love.

I completed three books and will get those reviewed this week.
NetGalley shelf is at 6 as I read one last week and added one to reading this week.
Three author titles remain in queue - I hope to get to these this month.
(Plus a few that I received from facebook links and newsletter sign-ups, not specific review requests.)
Still many titles through InstaFreebie and many new author requests I haven't replied to.

Welcome to Mailbox Monday.

Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. This Meme started with Marcia at A Girl and Her Books (fka The Printed Page) and after a tour of hosts has returned to its permanent home at Mailbox Monday. Thanks to the ladies sharing hosting duties: Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and (yours truly). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

As for MM, we’re looking for someone to volunteer to take over some MM duties.. We’re unsure what is going on with Leslie, but we have not heard from her since November 2020. We need someone who is familiar with Mr. Linky and the WordPress platform. Sunday evenings are when we post MM for overseas participants and BTCOE posts go up on Friday afternoons. If you have interest please email: savvyverseandwit [at] gmail [dot] com.
No new review books this week.
I purchased one Audible Daily Deal.
I selected four free titles from Audible Plus Catalog.

I added six free Kindle titles this week.
(Note these are in my Amazon library, NOT on my Kindle until I download and transfer them.)

HERE ARE THE BUNNIES:
This is the 'left' bunny after he turned and moved a step to the right.
Note the dirt in front of him to find him in the picture below this one.
Two bunnies in the picture below:
the bunny on the left is the one I saw (above in front of the dirt).
He is frozen and really camouflaged. You can just see his eye and back as he faces into the underbrush.
The bunny to the right is bigger and I didn't realize he was there until he jumped away but the camera caught him.

  1. Hope Heather gets better now that they know more about what's going on.

  2. I am glad to hear they figured out what was going on with Heather. I pray the infection heals and they are able to perform the surgery to help her.

Such cute bunny pictures. We have a lot of bunnies around here. It's the woodchuck I am not a fan of.

Great books this week. I would love to read The Faith of Condeleezza Rice. The Madman's Library also sounds good.

Hope you have a nice week.

  3. A sinus plus ear is not a good combo, poor Heather, that is so hard. I did spot the bunny (ies) in first photo - just! They are well camouflaged. Your reading looks great. Yay for Audible plus.

  4. Hi Martha,

I am so pleased that Heather at last has a diagnosis that can be worked on, so hopefully she will be feeling a little better soon!

We used to see loads of rabbits in the hedgerows along the sides of the roads, but this last couple of years there have been no signs of them! Hubbie has been known to stop the car for a rabbit transfixed in the car headlights and in the middle of the road, even getting out to shoo the odd one or two to safety, much the the chagrin of other drivers who are not quite so patient!

You managed to grab some great new titles this week, although I particularly like the sound of the Wendy Corsi Staub books. A new to me author, but this series is definitely heading for my list.

Thanks for sharing and I hope that your week is good! :)

  5. Poor Heather, I wish her a speedy recovery.
Someone nearby where I live has a pet rabbit that keeps escaping their hutch so it’s not uncommon to see a rabbit hopping along the street.

Wishing you a great reading week

  6. You're so organized with your Netgalley queue! I'm way behind, but my plan for May is to stick with mostly arcs so hopefully I'll make a nice dent!

  7. I'm so glad Heather has some answers and treatment beginning. The bunnies are so cute - we're overrun with them up north! I've enjoyed the Audible plus aspect of membership - I just need more time to listen/read. Well done on your investments! Now that my hubby has retired that is his full time job 😊 Have a good week!

  12. Wow, sounds like you are doing well in the market. I know the bigger the gain, the bigger the risk, but I've never learned enough about options to lose my fear of them (losing my money)
