Sunday Words of Encouragement June 4, 2017

Our Sunday School teacher continued from last week’s message (Resurrection to Resurrection) with a good follow up titled “Do You Believe?

As discussed last week, there had been prior miracles of people saved from death but none in the grave for four days, like Lazarus. The resurrection of Lazarus was for a purpose. If you look at John Chapter 11 you will find the word “believe” (or believes/believed) nine times, and another five times in John Chapter 12.

John 11:25-26 reads: Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

Did Jesus weep because he was sad that Lazarus had died or did he weep for the unbelief of the people? (John 11:35.) Even his closest friends, Mary, Martha and the disciples? Jesus’s actions were to serve the purpose of showing God's glory especially so people would believe.

As noted in John 12:37-40, many did not believe as Isaiah prophesied. But, many believed but would not admit their belief because they cared more for the opinions of men. John 12:42-43.

Do we believe? Do we make Him sad, angry, frustrated with our unbelief? How does He feel about our attitudes?

This song reflects what I believe!
A Verse for Today:
John 12:46 I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.

Lord help me to shine Your Love to a world that needs the hope that comes with belief!
