Sharing Beyond Books #297 Comment Giveaway April 1, 2017

Hello again and Welcome to Sharing Beyond Books, SBB!

Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Six commenters do not have instant buy authors. Three others have favorite authors but do not necessarily buy the books right off - they try the library first. The remainder of us have a variety of authors with two picking Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs and two picking author Chevy Stevens. I did not know all the authors so I will go looking for them.

~~~~~
The Winner from SBB #296 comments is: #13 Marjorie who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the Updated **Old (and soon to be updated) ARC/Review titles or (recently updated) Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.
**NOTE: I did set aside new books to add to the SBB choices and took pictures today. I will get those loaded later this week since tonight's winner is another international participant.
Thanks again for being patient with me!
Please let me know your choice by completing the WINNER FORM.
WEEK #297
(One Question.)
bn100 asks: How do you feel about books with a lot of reviews and all of them are 5 star reviews??
I admit that I notice the ratings but I still look at the reviews to determine good points and negatives. I try to look at the low ratings too especially when there are some of both.
Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! The supply of questions is dwindling so share some if you think of any -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify.
Your turn to share: bn100 asks: How do you feel about books with a lot of reviews and all of them are 5 star reviews??
SBB Comment Winners can choose a selection from the Valentine and "Love" books or the February 2015 Newly Updated ARC/Review List. 2-4-17: I FINALLY have some new "Love" and Christmas titles! I hope to get the picture posted later this week.
SBB Rules:
a) Must be a follower.
b) Share a comment on the question above.
Open internationally and an international winner may get a smaller book or a $5.00 GC if I decide the mailing is too much.
I will pick a Comment winner from all comments made through Saturday April 8, 2017 at 5 PM central.
  1. Congrats to Marjorie. When it comes to my favorite Authors I don't look at reviews. I may read a couple of reviews for a new Author just to see why it was a low star review and what they didn't like. But I will still read it if the back blurb calls to me. We're all different in our tastes after all.
  2. Hopefully a book that is so well received is deserving of such high praise. A touch sceptical I know.
  3. I would be suspicious if all the reviews were 5 star---and maybe look to see if any of the reviewers are ones I've noticed on other books.
  4. i will check the reviews to see if there are legit because the rating is saying less than the actual review i think
  5. I have to admit, with any product, if it's got all 5 stars it makes me weary. I still will read the reviews but I'm skeptical to say the least.
  6. A lot of 5* reviews of a recently released book make me suspicious, but since I try not read reviews beforehand and rarely read hype books, it doesn't bother me much.
  7. I would think it was fake, to be honest.
  8. I read the reviews to see what they say but I don't go by the ratings.
  9. Good reviews will make me take a 2nd look at a book but I consider other things before making a purchase decision: the content in the reviews, both good & bad; the blurb and read the excerpt if there is one.
  10. If I really want to read a book, it doesn't matter what others have written about it. I don't go by the star rating or reviews much anyways. I go with my own gut.
  11. Congrats to Marjorie!
    As for ratings, 5 star or otherwise, I do not look at others ratings. I choose to read what I want and rate them how I feel they deserve to be rated. Each person feels differently about stories. Take Heartless by Marissa Meyer, for example. I am a HUGE fan of hers. LOVED the Lunar Chronicles books. This book, Heartless, was loved by most. I saw 5 star ratings left and right. I didn't think it was THAT good though. I only gave it a 3 or 3.5.
  12. Congrats Marjorie!
    I would be suspicious about the reviews.
  13. I read a few reviews but I won't pick up the book unless the blurb really interests me.
  14. It does seem suspicious if a book had all five star reviews.
  15. I do not look at the ratings but read reviews and book content.
  16. Congrats Marjorie!
    I don't actually look at the stars, I prefer to read the actual review so it doesn't affect me that way. But if I see one reviewer giving all books 5 stars, I'd take those reviews with a pinch of salt
