Sharing Beyond Books #130 Comment Giveaway 12/14/13

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.
Thanks to everyone who commented last week.

Is everyone else having strange weather? We are dressing in layers to go from cold in the morning, warm during the day and cool again in the evenings!

A couple of people couldn't pick one favorite book for the year, which I understand! The rest named a wide range of titles to tempt me and others. Some I recognize as great choices/authors; some I have in my TBR and others I will have to look up.

I think I am surprised - liquid (or gel) users beat out bar users 11 to 7! miki's reply is interesting as she is using up a supply of a 40 year "old" soap. :-)

The Winner from SBB #129 comments is: #11 SarahM who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #130

Q1. Marjorie poses a holiday question: I enjoy Christmas, however, I find the hardest part is sending out Christmas cards. What is your 'Oh, I will do it tomorrow,' part of Christmas that you find hard to do??
A: Ouch - anymore all of it seems hard to do. I still haven't had time to get out to shop yet! But thanks for the reminder to set out cards to take to the office Monday. For about five years I mailed out Christmas CDs but this year I need something different and I forgot all last week to get the cards to the office.

Q2. My bookish 'Question' this week: Will you be giving books for Christmas and if so do you have at least one in mind??
A: I love the idea of giving books for Christmas and plan to do some surprises.  I have already bought The Harbinger for seven of my bookclub ladies and I am planning to give a few Kindle cards.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We are getting low on questions so hopefully you will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.

Your turn to share:

  1. Hi!)

    1) this year i had a bit of difficulty to send the christmas gifts and postcards like i intended because of my health and my mother adding up to iot but i'm glad to have have finished at least 3/4 of it now^^ i will do my best to finish all the rest this afternoon to post tomorrow that' the plan at least (i did the USA and other far away destination first since it takes longers) now only european left for vchristmas and some birthday cards for USA

what i tend to postpone each year is... the christmas tree... we ned to clean the room first etc and with the shop open and my mother busy it's rare we manage to put it before the 15 so this year if it's up before the 20 i will be happy^^

    2) Definitively books!!! each year i offer some to my mother, i feared i couldn't this year since her favourite author has its release only in january but i found the other one, in another edition so no paperback but hardback but she will have it at least^^ ( i also took some other for her to try)
    2) my brother will receive a little of everything, dvds, games but of courses books too david gemmels ones and some others but i can't remember teh author right now ( he was teh one for who i was ready first so 1month ago^^ i just need to wrap all now)

books ar my favourites kind of present because they can be so meaningful and since my family loves reading^^ it's sure to please

happy holidays and courage to all for the christmas/holidays preparations that still need to be done

  2. 1. This year, putting up the tree seems to be the hardest thing, although this is usually my favorite thing other than wrapping presents. We're hosting Christmas Eve for the first time and can't figure out where the tree will be out of the way.
    2. I am giving my godsons books for Christmas.

  4. Sending out Christmas cards is super hard for me--I'm now down to only sending out 2 actual cards and I still haven't done that. I've gotten lazy over the years and now do mostly email cards.

  8. 1 - I'm not sure how much Christmas stuff I'll do - I'm running really late with everything - cards probably won't be sent - I'll be lucky if I get things wrapped in time
    2 - giving some to my great-nephew

  9. 1. I don't find anything hard as regards Christmas. I have streamlined to the point of total enjoyment. I have never actually sent out cards. If I don't see the person, in person, over the holidays I telephone for a chat.

    2. I always give books as gifts. This year it seems to be a lot of non-fiction and craft books. Book I KNOW they don't have. Sometimes with novels, knowing their tastes, I'm pretty sure they already have it.

  11. 1. This Christmas is just going to be my tiny family. I've been thinking about what to cook for our Christmas dinner but just can't seem to get myself to look for recipes online or even to try and think of a possible dish.

    2. This is my first year giving a book as a Christmas present. Nobody in my family likes to read. The book I bought is for one of my baby nephews.

  12. The whole holiday is hard on me from having so much loss in my life. It is hard for me to get in the spirit and to decorate or put the tree up... then I remember my kids and that this is the making of new traditions (and if my mom were around she would kick me in the hiney for not moving forward) :)

  13. 1. taking down the decorations

  14. This is the first year we had to mail most of the presents, and I left that until really late. I bought everything early, but kept putting off getting the right sized boxes. Next year will hopefully be easier and quicker.

I bought a few books for my nephew who is a reader. Other than that, most of the kids we buy for are a little too young. Never too young to read, but it seems that most babies/toddlers already have huge book selections.

  15. 1. This year, we are low on funds, so everything has to be less. That has made most things easier. But, also means stress levels are relatively high, since corners are being cut.

    2. I would definitely give out books for Christmas. I love sharing the joy of reading.

  16. this year decorating outside was hard to do - we cut back on lights and decorations in the front yard.

I'm not giving out books this year

  17. 1. We usually wait until the last minute to make out cards too.
    2. I am going to maybe be giving out some books this year, not sure which ones for sure yet.
