Sharing Beyond Books #122 October 19, 2013 Comment Giveaway

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books.

Hey everyone!  I am pulling this together while watching movies with the Grand kids. :-) Almost cookie time!

Six - seven of us picked Thanksgiving as our favorite part of autumn. Three people like the leaves, and a couple like decorating and Halloween too. Some like fall festivals and pumpkins and scottsgal likes the fall football!

Most of use acknowledge that we are multi-taskers but two are single taskers.  fredamans and CarolL noted that as moms we almost have to be multitaskers! And Liss and a couple others mentioned they are single minded when reading!

Thank you to all who shared last week.

The Winner from SBB #121 comments is: #10 fredamans (I think you've had a winning week!) who can make a GC choice if international or book choice from the ARC/Review titles, Christmas titles or Love titles - all linked near the end of the post.  Please let me know your choice by completing the (new) WINNER FORM.

WEEK #122

Q1. Marjorie asks: How do you feel about talking and texting on cell phones while at table at a wedding??
A: I have to agree that such behavior would be rude. I see people texting during dinners out and I think that is rude too. And then there are those who think it's okay to text during movies - it suits me if they are banned from the theater. :-)

Q2. My bookish Question this week: Do you read the back material such as Author's Bio, Reading Guide, preview, excerpt or first chapter for next book??
A: Most of the time I do read the end portions. Lately I have found some interesting material. I don't always read previews or excerpts, first chapters of the next or prior book though.

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We are getting low on questions so hopefully you will send more in -- even if they are duplicates I'll weed through or try to modify to use.

Your turn to share:

  1. Q1: I don't think it is right to be talking and texting on cell phones while at table at a wedding. To me that is rude to be doing.
Q2: I always read the back material. I read the book from the beginning to the end, so what ever is in the book I read or look over,

  4. 1. I think texting during any event is rude. So many people are glued to their phones.

    2. I do read the back covers and authors bios, not really the reading guide.

  6. 1. Talking yes, texting depends. I don't see anything wrong with sending off a cute pic you just snapped as long as nothing important is going on at the minute with the wedding (dinner, first dances, cutting the cake, etc.).
    2. I do read reading guides and sometimes the notes.

  7. Q1. I think it is very rude when people do this. Most of the time I don't even take my cell phone with me when I go out.

Q2. I do read the author's bio. If I'm reading a series I do read the first chapter of the next book.

  8. 1. I always leave the room when answering a phone call, which I think is proper. Texting is acceptable once or twice, as long as I'm not in conversation with anyone at the time.

    2. I tend to read the book summary, before reading a book. If I'm unfamiliar with the author, then I'll also read a few reviews and maybe skim the first chapter in advance.

  9. 1 - whether it's at a wedding or in a restaurant, it's incredibly rude (unless it's a very important communication between a parent & child or helping someone - and then it should be kept to a minimum)

2 - I'll read background info, but never the first chapter until I start the book

  11. I think it's pretty rude at a special event, especially a wedding.

I've only gotten into reading the back parts in the last few months. I read or skim it all except excerpts for other books. I'm not a excerpt fan.

  12. 1. I think that would be rude.
    2. I read the excerpt.

  13. 1. it's rude; walk away to talk
    2. sometimes read the excerpt

  14. 1. Very rude. I've had people talking & texting while trying to have a conversation with me. If it's not an emergency switch off.

    2. I do sometimes. If the book is part of a series or it's a book or author I am interested in.

  16. It is nice to see that I am not alone with this cell phone thing.
I always read the front and back material.

  17. 1- whoa.. that is so rude. Technology is making us zombies.. I've seen lots of couples with cell phones on their hands, they should be grabbing hands or something, not looking at that thing! It's useful, but is killing our sensitivity :(
2- Well, I read everything that's in the book. Even the editor's note if there's one. If I love it I reread it all over again lol

  18. Q1. Talking is a no-no. Wanna talk, go outside. But I recently went to a modern wedding where the bride & groom asked people to take lots of pics and Instagram them so the texting I am not so serious about.

Q2. YES! I do read everything! Sometimes I get itchy and can't wait for the next book so I placate myself with the excerpt. Otherwise I try not to read the excerpt so as to not ruin the surprise. The rest, I read!
