Sharing Beyond Books #101 Comment Giveaway May 25, 2013

Hello again on Saturday night and Welcome to SBB, Sharing Beyond Books. I see several new people commented last week so a particular Welcome to you!

I really relaxed today after a tense week preparing for closings and a trial. The week ended well and I am looking forward to a less busy week next week.  I hope all is well with each of you.

Thank you to all who shared last week.

The "closet" romance readers edge out the non-closets with 13 admitting to hiding covers and 10 not. There were also a handful of "not romance readers" and those who only read inspirational romance (Bookishqueen) or buy the tasteful covers (Nikki).

As to playing computer games there were 20 of us who acknowledged playing some games online, downloaded, on iPod or on different gaming systems (xbox, Wii etc.).  Mahjong was mentioned several times and Rose got my interest mentioning Nancy Drew games.

WEEK #101 Questions

Q1. I thought this was a good follow-up to the Cover question last week.
Mary P asks:  Do you prefer models on the covers or abstract graphics?
- Do you want to see the models faces or not?
?
A: It depends on the story as I like a cover to show me something of the story or something to catch my interest more than male and female. Romance covers can be somewhat boring being the same old, same old. I would certainly rather see a model's face than other exposed body parts! Ha! I don't mind the sexy chests of men but I do like more than that. For example, Sara Humphreys covers feature a hunky guy and a shifter animal which is consistent with the story. :-)
I thought the image below was interesting.

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: Do you prefer shower or bath?
A: I don't think I have ever been a bathtub fan even when it is a nice jacuzzi tub in a hotel. My daily routine is our small shower when I am not washing my hair and our bigger shower when I am washing my hair.
Now that shower/tub looks sort of fun -
except it is outside so I wonder if I would be brave enough to not wear a bathing suit!

Thanks to those who are sending in Questions. DON'T BE SHY! Surely everyone has a Q or two you'd like to ask. Input suggestions in this Suggested Question Form. At the end of each month I draw from the suggestions I used during the month and that person will get a book choice or GC. I thank everyone for submitting questions. Thanks for sending in questions! We can always use fresh questions. I do have a group of questions from the same submitters so if you have a question don't be afraid to ask!
This is the last week for Qs in May so the contributors for May Qs were: Gwen, Elizabeth, Margaret and Mary P. Random.org picked #4 MARY P.

Your turn to share:

  1. 1) i love when the cover is linked to teh story so yes i love the sara humphrey one for examp;ke and i'm a fan of teh cover done for teh sentinel of new orleans series by suzanne johnson. The style isn't really important to me as long as i can see teh link with teh story and just man's abs isn't always enough

    2) i prefer bath

  2. 1) I actually like cover models and abstracts but when there are models I like it if their faces are hidden or cut off because I like imagining for myself. Pretty abstract covers are always very attractive and eye catching too.

    2) Both :)

  3. Congrats to Becky.
I like the model's face o0n the cover but as long as the cover gives an idea of the books content I'm happy. :)

I'm really a lover of long hot soaks with my favorite bath oil but lately it's the showers I have time for.

  4. When choosing a book to read, I don't normally go by the cover. I do like the covers that have the abstract graphics to them more than just having the model on them. I would prefer to see the model's face besides their chest though. I like a cover that catches my interest than just the model or models on the cover.
I prefer a shower more than a bath, but I like to take a bath to relax myself after a stressful day.

  5. Q1. Mary P asks: Do you prefer models on the covers or abstract graphics? - Do you want to see the models faces or not?

I dont actually. :/ but if the book has great reviews and high ratings then the cover will be disregarded. But! I still prefer books without faces on the cover.

Q2. My non-bookish Question this week: Do you prefer shower or bath??

I prefer a bath :D It's more fun and i feel more refreshed in a bath than in a shower. >.<

  6. 1. I prefer models to abstract for covers. For a long time, the heads have been chopped off of historical fiction books. I hope that the heads will come back. I hate to see a gorgeous dress and then no head!

    2. Baths, are my favorite. I can relax in them. I pour in bath oils beads and get the right temperature and relax with a good book. Showers are Ok for quick ways to get clean but they are not soothing to me.

  7. 1. Depends on how well it translates into the story.

    2. Shower.

  8. 1. I do not really care if there is a model or an abstract design on the cover, but I am not a fan of most covers that just have a photo which no artistry applied.
    2. I take showers, but baths are a huge luxury. The one tub in our house does not hold water, so sometimes, when I really want a bath, I will go to my parents' house.

  9. I like to see models/the characters of the story. I don't mind either way on the faces but I don't like it when the face(s) are cropped off.

    Shower for me.

  10. I get persnicketty if the cover image shows the main characters 'more sexy' than they are described in the book. So what if the heroine is short and the hero is only muscled on one side? While I do like images of the characters over random graphics, I do expect some level of accuracy. My fave covers are those that have lots & lots going on and you can refer to throughout the story.

Definitely a shower person. I am there to wash, not soak. I got stuff to do and relaxing in bed with a book is more to my liking.

  11. 1. It depends on the type of book.

    2. I prefer showers, but I enjoy baths, too. :)

  12. prefer models on the covers and want to see the faces

  13. totally depends on the book's genre, theme, etc - i'm attracted to variety. what i don't like are weak covers - some indie books do themselves injustice by not using good covers/great photography to represent their story.

when i have a luxury of time it's def bath. otherwise good hot clean shower with a rainshower head is perfect!

    happy reading!

  14. 1. I like models on the covers if they relate to the story

    2. We have a big soaker tub that is great for relaxing and reading in but normal everyday is a shower

  15. IM A FOLLOWER AND I LIKE A SHOWER! SHELLEY S. calicolady60@hotmail.com

  16. 1. It really does depend on the story content for me. I do like covers that stand out & I adore all the luscious gowns worn on historical romance covers.

    2. Has to be a shower all the way. Growing up we only had tank water, so during times of drought a bath was about an inch of water. You also had to scoop the wrigglers out before you got in. Wrigglers are mosquito larva.

  17. 1. I actually prefer there not to be any models on the covers. There are somany models in ads, on tv, in magazines, etc that I prefer seeing more abstract or nature-like covers on books. It shows that they can be more creative!

    2. I like showers more than baths. I do like a good bath once and a while, when the water is actually hot. I am a little OCD so I need to have the tub absolutely clean if I am going to take a bath, so I usually just stick with a shower haha. That way I don't have to clean the tub before getting in it!

  18. 1. I like both, it depends on the story. I don't like heads chopped off.

    2. I like a shower.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Q1. It depends. I love seeing hot models on the covers but for me it depends on the story. My biggest pet peeve with covers is when someone changes them halfway through a series. It bugs the daylights out of me...

Q2. I love showers. I do enjoy a hot bath now and then but not very often. Usually only in a Jacuzzi tub is about the only time i really enjoy a bath.

  20. I prefer models on the cover but I do not like undressed ones!

I usually take a shower but on occasionally I love a long bubble bath.

I like models but I don't like to see their faces. Leave it up to the reader's imagination to put a face to the characters. I do like graphics if they are unique and done well and can bode the tone of the novel.
I totally prefer a shower. Bath takes too long and then gets cold.
    No fun.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. 1. I like both, but models are my favorite and I like getting to see their faces.
    2. Bath.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  23. I prefer models on the covers...but I hate seeing the same models for different covers...I don't mind abstract art either. I think if part of their face isn't showing that is best so the reader can fill in the rest with imagination.
I prefer baths BUT I can't take them in my apartment bc the tubs too small! Showers are good and quicker, so I guess it depends. But unwinding is great bath tub work. :D

  24. I like to see cover models' faces, but it can be very aggravating if the model looks nothing like the character description in the book. Book covers that feature nature scenes related to the book are another favorite of mine.

    Showers!

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1. Either is fine with me as long as it matches the story. For example I don't want a big blond tattooed hero on the cover if the hero is actually dark haired and has no tattoos.

    2. I take showers to get clean but love a nice bath to relax.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Q1. Erm...anything really. Like for faces I like the Iron Fey series or the Delirium series is cool and pretty but I also like landscapes, especially if it's a romance novel as some of those covers are not-so-nice (as per last week's question).

Q2. Baths!! But only when I am on holiday and the hotel has a nice big one. Otherwise just showers for daily use.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1) I like the models on the cover but I prefer to not see their faces because they never look like the people I picture.

2)I like showers. Baths gross me out because everyone has their feet in the tub and I don't want to touch it.
